There is just so much that I never understood myself until I became a parent. The level of selflessness, the strength and patience to raise us, the love and compassion you gave us. The fact that you put yourself last, time and time again to put your family first.

Thank you for loving me before I even knew what love really was. Thank you for the nights you stayed up late worrying about the poor choices I made in life. Thank you for standing by me, even when I rebelled, I let you down or disappointed you, thank you for loving me. You always held it down.

Thank you for believing in me, thank you for always being my well wisher, thank you for all your prayers, thank you for pushing me to be better, to want better and achieve more. Thank you for your continued thoughts and guidance.

work was underway to bring The Fat Raj to Folkestone.

I grew up reading Janet and Allan Ahlberg's Funnybones books. They were the basis of many fond memories growing up and now almost 30 years later, I have the pleasure of reading those very same books to my son 📚

We hope that we may one day form part of someone else's fond memories growing up in Folkestone 🤞

You may have noticed, we've been somewhat quiet in recent times as we've been working away in the background to keep bringing you the best Indian inspired dishes but we feel it's about time we clear out the skeletons in our closet.

Having had the privilege and the pleasure of serving you from our Sandgate branch this past year, word on the street is, The Fat Raj is bringing it's Super Tidy Curry's to Folkestones Creative Quarter, Tontine Street so we can better meet the demand across Folkestone, Hawkinge and Capel Le Ferne.

It has always been our commitment to you, that we would never compromise our food quality nor undermine our service levels and due to the demand on the service recently, it was vital that we had the additional kitchen space to maintain this commitment to you.

As many of you may know, The Fat Raj was set up as a tribute to my old man, my king, my Fat Raj, Ahmed Khan ❤️

A masterful chef, a terrible businessman, the best dad a boy could ask for 🙌

It was only 8 months ago, we were working around the clock to get building works complete to get the doors opened for The Fat Raj - Super Tidy Curry.

It was 4 am, March 22nd when we put the tape measures away, put the drills down, wiped the last surfaces to be ready to serve our first Super Tidy Curry 13 hours later 🤞

An hour prior to opening, the menu's hadn't arrived, the card machine hadn't turned up and the months of underlying stress and anxiety was kicking into overdrive 🤯

I will say one thing though, hospitality is not for the faint hearted. It's live action. There are no pauses, there are no press rewinds.

When the lights go on, it's showtime, it's a performance, a balancing act, a tight rope and one slip can have an effect on the rest of the service ⚖️

The entrance tickets come at a premium, so it better be a good show or you'll hear about it and rightly so 🙏

We've always done our best to be honest and transparent in our efforts. We've had a few slips and falls along the way but we like to believe we've always attempted to rectify any issues as soon as possible and to the best of our ability. The show must go on 🎭

8 months on, it's a real honour and pleasure to become Folkestones first and only Local Legend on Just Eat serving authentic Indian inspired cuisines.

It's a genuinely proud moment for us as a team and something that could not have been possible without the overwhelming support we've had from all of you. I can't say thank you enough for continuing to offer us the opportunity to serve you and we hope that we can continue to do so for a long time to come.

January, the chalice of high hopes and promises, a statue of liberation or the slippery slope down to the end of the year?

How do you make the most of a year?

Do you set yourself goals? Milestones to achieve? Targets? New year's resolution?

Is it all intention based? Positive mindset, positive outlook, positive outcomes?

This ideology of starting a fresh, tearing out the last few pages and starting a new.

What makes us fail? What derails us from our plans? Are we too hard on ourselves? Have we been realistic in our expectations?

Are we overthinking it? Can we not just go with the flow, ride the wave, seize the opportunity as and when it arises, enjoy the moment and not get flustered by hypotheticals?

I seem to think the same thing every year, let's buy a diary, let's buy a gym bag, let's get organised, let's get fit - January does this to me - I buy a diary and gym gear that I don't ever use, I stumble my way through life, functionally disorganised, unfit but fit for purpose, I call it 'happy' and somehow come January, I say this is the year.

This year I did not buy a diary. This year I did not buy a gym bag. I've decided I'm not subscribing to this year.

I've decided to just exist in my own happiness ❤️

Evidently naive to this new world of hospitality, it's been a steep learning curve, with the upper echelons of hospitality a feat we continue to work towards 👣

On our journey to deliver Super Tidy Curry experiences, we've had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people and have been afforded the opportunity to extend our hospitality 🌈

I tend to cower away, to avoid any masked sharp object wielding individual. Seems like the logical thing to do 🥸

I've watched the purge, through the cracks of my fingers 🙈 I do not want to go out.

If you are spending the evening cowering under a duvet, why not keep yourself company with a spooky tikka masala or a bloody vindaloo - These masked curry bandits are a little less frightening in person.

Hath thou no chill?

Born to Portuguese parents, Carne De Vinha D'alhos would be adopted into the Goan family cookbook.

Once a tame dish cooked by Portuguese sailors bathing pork in red wine, the Vindaloo would only truly come to life when the Goans would adopt the dish and lavish it with palm vinegar, fresh ginger and spices.

There is no half way home to a Vindaloo, you're either in or you're out, the heat is part in the parcel and if you can't handle the heat, you need get out the kitchen.

Baldr, brother of Thor, son of Odin, god of light, the most beloved of all Norse gods, kind, beautiful, strong, powerful... Yet he was ended by a mistletoe.

Why?

Welcome to Friday the 13th - 12 gods having a come dine with me-esque dinner party in Valhalla, fine dining, enjoying a Friday evening with colleagues after a busy week doing Norse god stuff.

Loki, the joker of the gang was not invited because his knock knock jokes were getting boring, decides to turn up irrespective as the 13th guest.

Upon arriving he tricks Hod, the blind Norse god, son of Odin and F***g, into shooting mistletoe at the invulnerable Baldr, invulnerable to everything except mistletoe (another story in of itself).... And with Baldr's death, the whole earth became dark as the earth mourned the death of Baldr.

And so the 13th guest, Loki marks an unfateful tale of misfortune which begets us to this day. Friday 13th.

There are of course many other rhetoric explaination for the origins of Friday 13th but I quite enjoy a bit of Norse mythology.

Anyways, going off topic, the lesson to takeaway from this tale of sadness and sorrow is simple, TMCT - Ten Man Community Table, there is no room for unlucky number 13.

If you don't believe me, ask these three handsome chaps who arrived for an evening of banter and Super Tidy Curry. All left insatiably well fed, no mistletoe in sight and no one dead.

As the night fell, these two cartel bosses came down to The Fat Raj to engage in a deadly duel of who blinks first.

Under the influence of TMCT, following an intense initial stare down, both appeared to consolidate their differences and embrace one another over a Super Tidy Curry.

The night concluded in merry fashion as both held hands and skipped away into the distance, friends for life ❤️

It's very easy to live a life of transactions 💳

I need to eat, so I buy food but to buy food I need to work, so I get a job. I need to get to work, so I buy a car, the car breaks down, so I pay for repairs but to pay for repairs I need a better job. The better job pays me more money, so I buy a house, the house needs improvements, so I take on debt to complete the works and thus begins an endless series of transactions that ultimately concludes our life ⭕

It's as if we live a life hopping trains, constantly getting on and off platforms to catch the next train in our pursuit to here, there and everywhere but nowhere 💨

At times we are so focussed on anticipating the next stop, the next change, the new route that we forget to enjoy the scenic views en-route to our next stop 🛑

It's a distant disillusion from our initial aspiration of wanting to just live. To live free, to live happy and to live life 🌟

In the end, all we have is our memoirs. The memories of all that we endured, all that we experienced and all that we exchanged 🤝

Stop chasing trains and look out the window, it's a beautiful day! ☀️
