What. A. Day. Another PB - 140kg deadlift. Now to many out there this’ll be a walk in the park such as @eddiehallwsm but for me, this is more than I can ever remember doing, certainly in the last 20 years or so as I factor more strength training into my routine.

Feeling inspired by my heavy (for me) squat, and feeling more confident with my improvised @sbdapparel knee straps thought I’d try this again, and did it first time. Big day today - smashed 120kg squat - 20kg better than previous! Used my elbow supports on knees as had ACL reconstructive surgery a while back so a bit nervous about heavy weight (thanks @sbdapparel really good kit). Could I have gone a tiny bit lower? Probably, but pushing myself into new waters as I look to increase my strength training. I would NEVER advise any of my clients to go for 1RM without a spotter but today I decided to see if I could equal my PB. As you can see, despite being a bit wobbly on the push I did it cleanly. 90kg which I haven’t done for a while. In Stoke for my son’s graduation so popped into @puregymstokeeast for leg day - can’t see the weights on the bar but 100kg for reps - working on building overall leg strength and size. Age shouldn’t get in the way of your goals - 52 last week and today just PB’d my deadlift with still some left in the tank! 140kg might not be that heavy to some (eg @eddiehallwsm - legend) but for someone who really doesn’t like deadlifts that much, but knows what a good exercise they are, for me it’s a win and something to build on. Back under the bar squatting bodyweight. I like to use a plank under my heels just to help with back stability and putting a little more emphasis on quads, although these squishy trainers don’t help!
