Nine Oak is very proud to acknowledge our very own Practice Manager Lauren Smith won The St. James's Place Partner Support Specialist of 2023 out of hundreds of dedicated Partner Support Staff. This is a fantastic achievement and recognition of very hard work and commitment to our very valued clients. Lauren is instrumental in running one of the most successful and respected single partner practices within St. James's Place. Well done Lauren.

We are delighted to announce that in 2023 the St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation has raised £9.5million, which brings the amount raised since the foundation was set up in 1992, to £130 million.

The Foundation supports small and medium sized charities across the UK and overseas working with disadvantaged children, hospices, mental health charities and cancer support charities. Thank you to our community who work tirelessly all year round to raise these funds, which are matched £1 for £1 by SJP.

We're pleased to share that we've been named the "Consumer Champion of the Year" at the MoneyAge Awards.

This recognition underscores our commitment to always putting the consumer at the heart of everything we do.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts and condolences are with the Royal Family, the country, the Realms, and the Commonwealth during this time.

Any UK investors hoping for a big Spring Statement giveaway from Chancellor Rishi Sunak might have been left disappointed, despite inflation continuing to climb.

On Wednesday, the Office for National Statistics revealed UK CPI inflation hit 6.2% in February, a 30-year high. Expectations are for further price rises over the coming months, as soaring energy prices and persistent supply chain disruptions continue to bite.

The impact of the inflation data on UK markets was mixed. The FTSE 250, which is highly exposed to the domestic economy, fell by 1% by the end of the week. By contrast, the FTSE 100, whose companies generate the bulk of their profits overseas, rose by 1.1% in the same period.

The unfolding crisis in Ukraine dominated the headlines last week as Russian forces invaded the country during the early hours of Thursday morning. The event has sparked severe humanitarian concerns, with hundreds of thousands of refugees already reported by some news outlets, as civilians look to flee the fighting.

The resulting volatility in global markets was severe with markets retreating sharply as markets opened on Thursday, only to regain some of the lost ground as the day progressed with the recovery extending into Friday’s trading.

Throughout March and April, the SJP Charitable Foundation launched the My Virtual Mission, inviting the SJP community, friends, and family to undertake one of three gruelling physical virtual journeys across the world, with the aim of raising money for those charities we support.

There were 3 virtual missions available:
• 240km run in Cape Town, one of the world’s most beautiful and exciting cities, which had 239 participants.
• 240km walk to unlock the secrets of the spectacular Lost City of Machu Pichu, with 523 participants.
• 980km of cycling Vietnam, exploring a trail of jaw-dropping mountain scenery, beautiful white sandy beaches, and amazing architecture which had 173 participants.

937 participants took part in the challenge, and so far £200,000 has been raised before matching; and this figure is continuing to rise.

Connecting with nature can help prevent mental health issues. These benefits have never been more evident than during the pandemic, when 45% of the UK population reported that being in green space has been vital for our mental health.

Mark Rowland, Chief Executive for the Mental Health Foundation, believes nature is so central to our psychological and emotional health that it’s almost impossible to realise good mental health for all without a greater connection to the natural world.
