Walking the Magnificent 11
This is a page about the Magnificent 11, a four-part circular walk of 11 miles linking seven wonderful greenspace habitats.
A fine walk on a less than fine day with Eastwood Ramblers. The craic was good though and to be fair the morning was mostly dry, but the heavens opened at 12.00 and didn't stop. But skin is waterproof ! ๐ There's captions for each piccie BTW. .
Hi fine peeps,
As indicated last week an initial meeting has taken place to form a community support group. When in place this will help to maintain and develop this living walk; keeping The Magnificent 11 (TM11) alive and well into the future - for the benefit of so many across Glasgow and beyond to enjoy.
That said, to pull this together, we really do need the followers on here and all the other fine people who have experienced the health and wellbeing of 'The Greenest Urban Walk in Scotland' to come along to this second meeting. In short - we may know the saying from old, but the reality isโฆ โYour Walk Needs You.โ ๐ซต ...and... you need this walk. ๐
See you there on the 11th October, at Miller Primary from 7.00 to 8.30pm and looking forward to a packed dining hall! ๐๐.
Hereโs a useful list of walks accessible from Glasgow by public transport. It includes the Magnificent 11.

Hi fine peeps,
The initial meeting to take forward a community group from the people who enjoy the Greenest Urban Walk in Scotland took place on the 13th September at Miller Primary.
It was great to see such a cross section of interested attendees and thanks again to all of you who came along and shared your thoughts and views! It was a productive first meeting, and covered a variety of topics; all with an understood aim of promoting the sustainability of the walk into the future.
That said, although we covered a lot of ground and have noted many key points and actions that will ensure a good debate at the next meeting, this is only the beginning !
Therefore, this post is a reminder and a warm and welcoming invite to all Facebook followers of The Magnificent 11 to come along and join us at this second meeting on the 11th October at Miller Primary from 7.00 to 8.30pm.
We now have over 860 followers for this community walk and it needs these same fantastic people to support it, otherwise it will be lost. Dramatic words, for a dramatic walk!
So please, if you can, come along to the meeting on the 11th October and we look forward to a packed dining hall! ๐๐.
A fine day out last Thursday for yet another school walking The Magnificent 11. Today had a fine total of 59 P6's from St Fillans and a further 10 adults. All enjoying the over 84% of greenspace this community walk shares and not to forget a fine lunch viewpoint. ๐
On today folks....

Hi All,
A wee newsflash and possible date for your diaries. WED Sept 13th at 7.00 to 8.30pm. Miller Primary, 20 Ardencraig Rd, Castlemilk, G45 0EL.
The Magnificent 11 (TM11) has just celebrated its first birthday since it was officially launched. An excellent time then to affirm it's future sustainability as Scotland's Greenest Urban Walk - for both local community and city wide walkers and for our city visitors alike.
The aim is therefore, to form a Friends of The Magnificent 11 group (FoTM11). The same as those wonderfully successful similar community user groups for Linn, Kings & Fernbrae Parks and of course Castlemilk Woods.
Ideally PM if you are intending coming along on the night and for info. We have a good number of 'followers' for TM11, so hoping for a good turn out, and it will be nice to share hello's.
NB: There is parking at the school and an excellent bus service, the 75 stops outside the school on Ardencraig Rd.
Well done. Glad you enjoyed.
It looks great. Well done.
Hi all,
What a great day we had on Saturday - wonderful scenery - good company - plenty of laughs ...and the weather was kind ! It's nice to know the walk is being shared with people locally, across Glasgow and on occasion, city visitors. Altogether, all of us walking and those we meet - we are all looking after our physical and mental health, and in some of Glasgow's finest greenspace.
In chat with some we met on the walk and between ourselves, it seems most walkers are now finding their way by knowing the route well from previous walks, from carrying the guide leaflet with them, or from the increasingly popular gpx routes, that guide users round the full walk... well for those with smart-phones, that is. :)
They're your parks and greenspaces, enjoy.
Some of the walkers below.
Cheers
Hi Folks,
There are 'incredibly' ๐ ...still places remaining for this Saturday's Guided Walk with me - will be a good day of time well shared, with smiles a few and info shared, as we take in The Greenest Urban Walk in Scotland, your Magnificent 11. ๐
Send me a PM here if wishing to attend. It's a 9.15am meet, for a 9.30am start and return around 4.30pm. You'll need a packed lunch, good walking footwear and suitable clothing. See previous post for start location... oh, and mind to send the PM, as it isn't possible to just turn up on the day.
Cheers
Morning all... ๐ ...a wee invite to join me for a guided walk of your Magnificent 11 on Sat 29th of July.
Meeting time is 9.30am by the gates and information panel for TM11 in Linn Park LNR on Clarkston Rd
WTW - ///grin.goals.kings.
As numbers have to be limited to 24. Then on this occasion IT IS NOT POSSIBLE to simply turn up. Hence PLEASE PM me if you would like to join us on the day.
You'll need a packed lunch, outdoor clothing, and walking footwear. Hopefully, it'll be a fine day with touches of interpretation, some walk history, and with an added surprise or two besides.
Well it was a most productive day yesterday. 4 volunteers and what a team. Gerard and Alan from Glasgow Ramblers, George from Friends of Linn Park and Joel, all the way from Helsinki for a family celebration.
Happily, and thank you to STEWARTS TIMBER, CUMBERNAULD for the supply of the neccesary 75mm round tannalised posts - the damaged waymarkers of the long hot spell are now largely corrected, with only two posts yet to replace.
A cuppa and a sarnie were enjoyed over a fine day and with only 2 five minute showers. As expected there was blether a go go, notably in Joel's input, and all with a fine few laughs to accompany.
Looking forward to the next volunteer day and seems there will be a guided walk of The Magnificent 11 on Sat 29th July, but willl post separately on this. ๐
Dear walkers, regular, once or twice, and those yet to walk The Magnificent 11 - looking for volunteers for a bit of route maintenance.
We're looking forward to Saturday and saying hello at 10.00am in Cathkin Braes (CB) carpark just off the B759 at ///force.tunnel.anyway. The replacement posts and other needs are good to go in. We ought to be finished around 2.00pm, or earlier and if poss keep in mind transport, as we do need to be at differing locations after we leave CB.
Weather wise, at mo', there could be a short heavy shower. But this can change and eitherway it will surely not dampen our passion.
We'll be able to provide tea and coffee and maybe even a biccie or similar treat, though good to have a bite to eat and a drink, nae whisky though. ๐
Over the day there will be guid craic, some fine laughs and a thing or two discovered on posting. Good times - see you all Sat mornin. ๐ ๐
A big thank you to Ramblers Scotland for producing this video.
MAGNIFICENT 11 VOLUNTEER DAY
An invitation and call to arms for regular and for new walkers of the Magnificent 11. ๐
The fine sunny days have revealed a few crucial posts have gone AWOL. The most vital will be replaced through next week and a first volunteer day to complete this reinstatement is planned.
This will be on Sat 15th with a meet point at Cathkin Braes car-park on Cathkin Rd (B759) at 10.00am. It would be good to have transport, as we may need to move from this location.
Will update, nearer the day, and looking forward to saying hi to a few followers and route enthusiasts. Till then, keep enjoying being out there. ๐
New walk alert this Saturday Afternoon
Waterfall Walk
The Waterfall and history is part of the new events for 2023-24 programme which has just be delivered and apologies for late announcement of the walk as we know it would be popular,
If you want to find out all about the wildlife of the area and wildlife please come along.
To find out about the walk and its accessibility please email [email protected] or drop message into the inbox or call 0141 631 5213 for more details
This walk has lots of different to learn about about Castlemilk park looking forward to seeing you all there.
Replaced a couple of missing posts today - both were at needful points 1. Direction down to see why Linn Park is so called and the other at a Cathkin Braes crossways. Mind in saying needful - all the way-markers are, but some are perhaps a little more 'pointy' than others. ๐
What a wonderful walk yesterday and such a treat to share it with the three classes and 71pupils - a first for this school and TM11 in such a three class walk. Each and every pupil completed the full route. Superstars each and all and a memory that will live long. Would be a delight to think the day will encourage more outdoor time and with it, self belief in confidently knowing, I can do it.
The diversion signage at Beech Walk was this afternoon taken in - see image. This section has now dried out sufficiently, and thank you all for your patience. One or two wee softy bits remain, though all is fine for walking.
Have walked this section many many times, but after a usual hectic and busy day... well, the dappled light and mature beech hedge worked their restorative magic. Enjoy good peeps, enjoy.
The full route is being walked tomorrow with 60+ P7 pupils from a local school. ๐ ๐
A wee update on the White Cart Walkway in Linn Park LNR. The section from the White Bridge to Millholm Rd will be closed for 4 days until Fri 21st April.
This is to allow time for an improvement to Holmwood House steps down onto Millholm Rd.
Thank you to all for taking the diversion down Netherlee Rd - either to Snuffmill Rd, or in other direction, into the park via The Adventure Playground car-park. ๐
Hi Fine Peeps All,
A few piccies of today's repair to water erosion damage to the path at the start of Pedmyre Lane. Not the best day for vols to be out, however one positively insisted, and what a help... outstanding input, thank you
Hope all had an outdoor Sunday... oh and BTW: aiming for another post mid-week. ๐
Hi Friends,
A few updates to share, and apologies for the wordy wordy.
Some of you may already have come across the ongoing improvements to the last section of the White Cart Walkway (WCW) from Millholm Rd to Snuffmill Br. Works include new fencing, entirely new steps and path resurfacing throughout.
This work has been chased and delicately raised continually, hence delighted for everyone who enjoys TM11 and Linn Park LNR. NB: A short diversion down Netherlee Rd that adds approx 100mtrs, is in place and works are expected to finish May 15th or earlier.
The Fish Pond Path is finished, so a sincere thank you to The Castlemilk Volunteers and Stuart of Cassiltoun Housing Association. What a team and what a finished path. Brilliant work by all concerned.
Finally, a few waymarkers have been refreshed and thank you for help with this to FoLP and of course with this...
..a wee chance then to thank you all. Walkers, waymarker/path reporters and encouraging promoters and all who help in any way at all. Your input as an enthused community in Friends and Volunteers of The Magnificent 11 is heart-warming. It is your walk and continues to thrive as we hope all do who enjoy 'The Greenest Urban Walk in Scotland' whether walking a bit or all. Enjoy the images.
Our volunteers recently got stuck in to some conservation work on the Walk the Magnificent 11 route. Thanks to Gary for leading the group. Please do get in touch โ๏ธ if you'd like to join us next time!
A wee update on some recent volunteer input folks.
Castlemilk Park Volunteers were out and about in the guise of Gerry, John and Dave and of course Stuart of Cassiltoun Housing Association.
The aim is to tidy the path round the end section of the Fish Pond and create a new improved surface from the pond up to join the tarmac path towards the bridge. Near two tonnes of washed down soil were removed, ground prepped and board edging installed. Then a tonne and a half of Type 1 path base was added.
There will be further re-visits in the coming month or two to see the path complete. Many thanks to GCC NRS Kings Depot staff for vehicle and materials and of course to Castlemilk Volunteers for their hard work and the laughs on the day, not to mention the much enjoyed soup at lunch in the stables.
The improvement will benefit The Magnificent 11, anyone enjoying the recent smaller walks around Castlemilk Park and of course all residents, using the path as a throughway.
