Tudo começa com um pastor nascido na Grã-Bretanha, raptado por piratas e vendido como escravo para a Irlanda no século V. A história conta que durante o tempo em um monastério após fugir da Irlanda, onde era mantido escravo, ele aprendeu tudo sobre a religião católica e ao ouvir um chamado divino, decidiu retornar e perdoar aqueles que o capturaram. Foi nesse período que ele converteu os irlandeses pagãos ao cristianismo! 🛐
O dia 17 de março é o dia em que São Patrício teria morrido — assim como os dados de seu nascimento, tudo é muito incerto. E como patrono da Irlanda, outros itens relacionados a ele são ovacionados até hoje: o trevo, a cor verde, além de março ser o período de se saudar a primavera que está chegando no polo norte, ou seja, época de renovação em todos os sentidos.
Todas essas simbologias acompanharam os nativos pelo mundo afora. Tanto que a St. Patrick’s Parade não é de origem irlandesa, mas sim, originária dos Estados Unidos, na segunda metade do século XVIII.
A cada mês de março, essa época era a oportunidade máxima de gritar aos quatro cantos o orgulho de ser irlandês. Imagine, você, o que isso representava!
Com o passar dos anos, os desfiles se tornaram uma demonstração de unidade e força dos imigrantes e a celebração popular da herança irlandesa.
A festa se tornou global em 1995, quando o governo irlandês iniciou uma campanha em grande escala para divulgar o St. Patrick’s Day como uma forma de impulsionar o turismo e mostrar os muitos encantos da Irlanda para o resto do mundo.
E assim chegamos à comemoração que conhecemos hoje.
