Lisa & Fraser 🙂 WHAT IS SEITAN? WHAT'S IN THE MIXES? WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE KITS? IS IT SUSTAINABLE?
Seitan (pronounced say-tan) is a natural protein-rich food that has a taste and texture similar to different meats, such as chicken and beef. Its main ingredient is a flour called vital wheat gluten (VWG), which is simply flour that has been rinsed of all of its starch, leaving only the high-protein gluten behind. These mixes contain VWG, chickpea flour (or organic potato flakes for the elasticity

Ps really should have posted this at the start of the day hahah
Some photos from Glasgow Festival 🙌🥐🍪☕
This market required a lot of help from my family- our car was in the garage so my dad drove us there and back, did an extra run for cocktail sticks as we'd forgotten them, and dropped our toddler off at his aunty's for the day! All while we hung out with our vegan pals, ate vegan pastries, cookies and Napoleon cake, and unbelievably delicious gnocchi from , drank lattes and chatted about seitan all day 😂 thanks guys !!
Next market won't be until next year. It was really lovely meeting everyone on Saturday though so thanks for much for saying hello, and supporting our small business! 💞
It's taken a hot minute but we're now fully restocked and back open on Etsy! Thanks for everyone's support and feedback in helping to improve the packaging and designs- we tried out a few things but have ended up with very minor changes in the end! Almost imperceivable in fact hahah
The pouches and labels are still 100% recyclable which is incredibly important to us, and the labels are now being printed professionally which looks much better and is saving us a lot of time. Hopefully there's no errors in them because I've just ordered hundreds of them 😂
We've got 2 new bundle options available:
🐮 Beef & Kebab - £12.95
🐔 Chicken & Shredded Chicken - £12.95
As well as our usual bundles:
🌈 Rainbow Pack (all 6 kits) - £34.95
☀️ Starter Pack (Beef, Chicken & Shredded Chicken) - £17.99
🌊 And all individual packs - £6.95

TRICK QUESTION THE ANSWER IS ALL, THEY'RE FREE SAMPLES LOLZ 🍽️
Making is genuinely not as weird or daunting as it can seem. It can be made quickly, with only basic ingredients and equipment (honestly 😂)
There are two ways to get the main ingredient:
Washing plain flour to remove the starch and isolate the protein (can be labour intensive), or using Vital Wheat Gluten which is flour that has already been washed. You can buy VWG in most health food shops.
Different ways to make it:
You can mix the VWG with herbs, spices and stock only, or you can mix it with other ingredients to change the taste and texture. Popular ways of making it include mixing it with nutritional yeast, chickpea flour, tofu, cooked lentils, and other things such as soy sauce oil, onions, garlic, etc.
Different cooking methods:
It can be eaten as it is (delicious), or it can be prepared further i.e. fried, marinated or grilled. Cut into chunks for salads, stir frys, curries etc, or sliced for deli style seitan, or minced or shredded for different dishes
Anyone is welcome to send me a message if you have any questions about getting started!
is a , minimally processed (just the flour), has B12, iron, calcium, iodine, selenium, zinc and others. It's literally just flour, nutritional yeast, spices and black magic. So if anyone's away saying "vegan food isn't healthy" just tell them to PIPE DOWN ALREADY 😂
Seitan's been around since Ancient China, and tofu has been around for around 2000 years (says Google, I wasn't there). I don't know about tempeh because eugh, but these along with beans and pulses are the staple of a diet- one of which I don't follow but I do like to avoid regularly eating processed supermarket stuff.
is a *superb* month for trying all the new vegan products though, I feel like there's been less of them this year but it does make my Aldi shop more exciting to see things like croissants, corn dogs and flavoured tofu! 🥐
Bit late bit late, but happy new year!
Here's a wholesome frosty pic from last weekend's walk.
For all our new followers (and anyone else), I'm Lisa and I run Simple Seitan Kits with my husband Fraser. We've been for around 6 years and I was before that. We live in a village outside Glasgow with our son, 2 cats and tortoise 🐱🐱🐢
We are very much 🐷🐮🐰 because we ❤️ them, we also feel very strongly about the environment, as well as enjoying the health benefits of a diet. We're certified who branched out into experimenting with as another protein source, and now have absolutely no idea what we ever did before making seitan 🤣
I create the recipes, designs and make the kits up, and Fraser dutifully does the taste testing, website maintenance and regular post office trips. He also listens to me complain about the price of postage which is RIDICULOUS.
I'm not fantastic with social media because I don't have the stamina for it- I'm more of a post every few months on Facebook kind of gal- but I do enjoy sharing and seeing everyone's tasty food pics, and I really feel like this year is the year I might actually post consistently 🤔
My fav food is , Fraser's is or a big dirty Indian takeaway 😏 Hope you're all well and enjoying the start to the new year! ☀️❄️💚
39g (complete) protein per portion 💪 Beef-Style with veg, rice and sesame seeds
👽🎃🧟HAPPY HALLOWEEN!🧟🎃👽
Hope you all have a suitably spooktacular day! 🦇🦇🦇
We made a Thai pumpkin curry (1-Pot Pumpkin Yellow Curry by Minimalist Baker ) which had a great flavour and was very easy and quick to make. We just chucked some chickpeas in for good measure and served with Chicken-Style 😈
Hearty food is officially back in seeaasssoonnn! 🍂🌤️🍁 This is a creamy roast veg with chunks of Chicken-Style unceremoniously piled on top. I fried the seitan in a little all purpose seasoning which gave it a nice crispy texture on the outside 👩🍳
Just take one good photo I beg of thee
The last ever market 😦 have been doing these for a while at in Glasgow, and their last one is this Sunday 11-5. Free entry! Hopefully there'll be a lot of stalls for a good send off. Come and say hello if you're planning a visit, me and Fraser will be there 😃
Next up is a really easy lunch (or dinner for most people, I'm led to believe we have very big portions??)
🥙 A very simple made from toasting a flat bread, chucking shredded red cabbage, onions, peppers and tomatoes on it, a squeeze of spicy mayo and loading it with thick slices of Kebab-Style . Fraser had the same but without mayo so obv I didn't photo that because what a waste 😐
I'm back baby! And I'm eating vast quantities of maccy cheese 🫠 I added some butternut squash to the sauce for those sweet, sweet vitamins, but otherwise just used a vegan version of a cheese sauce (spread, flour, milk, cheese, mustard and nooch).
🌱🐖 The bacony bits are the ham-style seitan just cut up into lardons and fried with bacon seasoning. Delicious 🤌
Our two 🐔❤️chicken❤️🐔 kits all made up and ready to post tomorrow 📦
There are a lot reasons to be , but we've always been straight up , because they're just so ☁️🪩🐑LOVELY🐑🪩☁️
So we had a tremendous time at the vegan animal sanctuary in Lanark this weekend, where we were very grateful to be able to meet some of its residents, like these glorious sheep, and this ginormous turkey Bruce who is inspiring me to make a Turkey-Style Seitan 😏🦃🦃🦃
Thank you to the owners for running such a cool place and allowing us to visit (us being the general public, not just VIP me, Fraser and the angry looking baby 🙄)
To complete our wholesome vegan weekend, we also stayed at the vegan bnb down the road, , which offered an incredible stack of pancakes in the morning 🥞
Sometimes I just fancy being 💃fancy💃
made with beef-style 🍣🍣🍣
