There’s a double-impact optimisation strategy that we need to talk about. It’s alt text for images.

There are two important ways this can impact the success of your website. First, the alt text is a description of an image that search engines can see so for SEO purposes it’s very beneficial.

Second, and possibly, more importantly, the alt tag has a major impact on user accessibility. Screen readers, which are browsers used by people with a visual impairment, for example, can “see” and read the alt-text so that users can have the full experience of your web page.

This is going to sound like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how often page title optimisation is missed.

The way search engines like Google see the pages of your website may not be what you think.

Take page titles for example. In SEO terms, the purpose of your page title is to make people click on it. If your title is not clear and compelling, you’ve missed the chance to earn the click from search results.

Remember, your page title must help you rank for a keyword and make the user want to click through to your page.

How much is the quote? If an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is. Low rates might mean little experience so don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Do they have a portfolio of previous work? Unless you love the idea of being a learning project for a new designer, ask for previous projects and visit those sites to see the navigation and site performance for yourself.
