40 Years In Prayer

Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live. (1 Thess 5:16-18 The Message Bible)

For 40 years, Prayer Chain Ministry has been coordinating and organising prayer for our dear nation, the United Kingdom. Started by women from across the UK, PCM is open to all men and women who love Jesus and want to see God's plans for the UK fulfilled.

Every Wednesday evening, we hold a prayer meeting on zoom. Christians from across the UK pray for the nation, the persecuted Church and for God's will in the world.

Join us as we pray. For zoom login details text PRAYER to 07852677504.

1 TIMOTHY 2:1-3
"Pray much for others; plead for God’s mercy upon them; give thanks for all he is going to do for them. Pray in this way for kings and all others who are in authority over us, or are in places of high responsibility, so that we can live in peace and quietness, spending our time in godly living and thinking much about the Lord.This is good and pleases God our Savior..."

It has been a great few months for us. We took a break on our weekly meetings and resumed in September. On Saturday 26th September, we held our annual conference. Praise God that we had a wonderful Conference (on Zoom), which quite a number of people attended. Our speaker Margaret Gilvear encouraged and challenged us as she spoke of things God has been teaching her through the book of Habakkuk, during hard times in her family, when God did not seem to hear their prayers. She reminded us that whatever we are going through God is in control.

Habakkuk 3:17-19 “Though the fig tree…the vine… the olive tree and the fields do not produce their fruit, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Saviour.”

DO you feel called to Praying for the United Kingdom? Then join us. Send a text to VICTORIA on 07852677504 and she will be in touch.

ISAIAH 30:18-19
Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you;
And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the Lord is a God of justice;
Blessed are all those who wait for Him. For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem;
You shall weep no more.
He will be very gracious to you at the sound of your cry;
When He hears it, He will answer you.

LORD VISIT OUR NATION!!!

We were really blessed to be in God's presence tonight, praying for our Nation.

God spoke to us from Isaiah 40:31; Isaiah 61 and Proverbs 28:1-2.

Let us continue to pray for:

- The Church and Church leaders across the Nation for grace and strength from God to fulfil His purpose and declare his love at such a pivotal time in history.
- The UK, unity between the four nations and Godliness in leadership. Giving thanks for the amazing move of the Holy Spirit that is happening in our nation right now during this pandemic.
Let us pray that God will continue to pour out His Spirit so that the love, fear and knowledge of Him, will be restored to our Nation.

In the 1960s and 70s the culture in Britain, as in all western nations was changing for the worse. Secular and humanist movements became more openly hostile toward God. Individualism and the “do what you want” culture became the order of the day. Many Christians were praying that God would send the Holy Spirit throughout our nation and turn people back to Himself. The year was 1981 and God was answering prayer and gathering those willing to take part in the battle against ‘the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms’. Prayer movements were being formed and leaders were being raised up.

One of those leaders was Jessie McFarlane a housewife from Glasgow. A book called “What Happens When Women Pray” by Evelyn Christianson, an American woman, challenged Jessie and her friends. As they met to pray for Scotland God spoke to them about forming a telephone prayer chain, as described in the book they had just read. Many women, praying in their own homes, could then be united in specific prayer for Scotland. God gave them 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Jessie and friends heard that Evelyn was speaking about her book at meetings in England. She was invited and agreed to come to Glasgow. They prayed that many would come to hear Evelyn and in faith booked a large church in Glasgow. 650 women from across Scotland came and the decision was made to form a Prayer Chain for Scotland. Anyone interested in making a commitment to God to pray for the country and wishing to be part of this chain could put their address and phone number on their name badge and leave it in a basket at the door as they left. Over 400 did so. Telephone Prayer Chain Ministry was born and grew to nearly 1,000 members. Since we use email in preference to the telephone, it is now known simply as Prayer Chain Ministry.

There are now members all over Britain though increasing age is reducing our numbers. Prayer Chain Ministry volunteers still seek God’s guidance, prepare and send out three or four prayers, mostly by email, to members every Monday. You can read the story in “A Housewife’s Adventure with God” by Jessie McFarlane. There is up-to-date information on the website www.prayerchain.org.uk

The battle for hearts and minds is still raging. We are praying that younger women and also men will take up the mantle, join us, take over from us, but above all, pray with passion and perseverance for God to halt the tide of evil and establish Godly rule in Britain.
