Maverick
Maverick Piping Maverick is a bagpipe company that specialises in bespoke, handmade chanters.
No computerised machinery, no copy units just craftsmanship and passion in every single product. The customer always comes first and we will go over and above - probably more than we are meant to - to make you sure you are left as bright as our chanters. No question is too stupid, so if you want to talk to us about anything piping related we are more than happy to help.
Finally getting the ball rolling with another batch of full custom chanters for . This is the wood in its absolutely barest form so the transformation from the point will be exciting.
Here's an interesting one. The customer had a set of goose pipes but really didn't like the chanter that came with them. So he asked if I could make a chanter that would fit all the measurements of his goose pipes as well as be a stand-alone instrument. I had to get quite creative to get all the sizes to marry up.
Here's some close ups of the custom chanter from the most recent post.
Err she's err, ladies and gentleman. Up close pictures to come. This came out SO well I'm tempted to make myself one.
It's happening. I'm absolutely BUZZING to have this one completed and delivered to the customer. I wasn't really sure what to expect when the order came in but I have to say I'm 100% on board. Watch this one.
Another custom colour in the door. This one is for ANOTHER school. I was asked to replicate their tartan so this is what I came up with.
Any guesses on the tartan or the school? 10 points to Griffendor to anyone who nails it.
Do me a favour, grab your favourite practice from your pipe case, and do this test... See how your tuning compares to this. I can guarantee there won't be anything close unless you have sat with tape and bangaged it up like a mummy to get it remotely close.
This was the first reed out of the box in a new chanter. All I would do to this is lift it a tiny bit to flatten the HG and HA. Done!!
Got something excited planned for this one. Watch this space.
Good morning all. I appear to have picked up an email virus. It doesn't seem to be malicious more of an inconvenience to us. If you have received this email, please just ignore it and delete it.
Apologies for the inconvenience
I didnโt get much done yesterday other than some sanding, polishing, and a bit of engraving. I did get the first few layers of topcoat on today, though. Things are starting to come together now. These will need to be sanded again (3 of 4). I'll then need to finish off the sanding off the ferrules, polish them and finish off the engraving.
Once all the individual components are completed, they'll then be assembled and then finished off with a final sand and polish.
Following on from the last post, some outside shots of the chanters outside in natural light.
Day 3. Tops turned. Chanter pintles done along with finger holing and the first coat of sealer applied. You can see that once the sealer is on, you get a better idea of what the final colour will look like.
Tomorrow, all of the metalwork needs to be sanded and polished, as well as the chanters getting sanded for the second time (2 of 4) before they are prepped to have top coats sprayed on.
I'll post some more close-up shots later today of he chanters so far.
Following on from yesterday's post; Chanters have been roughed down, bored, and the bottoms turned. Tomorrow, I'll turn the tops along with pintle turning and finger holing. They are just basic bare wood just now but will get the first lot of coatings tomorrow.
Finally getting stuck into the chanters. I'm going to document the full process from start to finish so you can see the chanters develop as they are made.
Pro tip; If you're getting engraving and you really want it to pop? Get the matt metal finish. The black on grey looks sharp.
A wee selection of some of the chanters. First one with the matt hardware the other 3 with polished.
Another custom colour will be getting underway shortly.
This one is for who wanted blue and gold to match the school colours. It's difficult to gauge what the wood will look like once it's all turned and treated, so it's a relief that the tested sample came out so well.
Really looking forward to making an army of these bad boys for the pupils.
The Patriot with the colour coded cap to match.
A local pickup today for an international customer. I like it when people drop in. It's always good to put a face to a name. This particular chanter is actually a gift for someone when he gets home. Much better than a stick of rock, but I think Toblerone still beats it.
I hope you all enjoyed our little gag at the start of last month. All the images put together were manufactured by . I gave him the basic concept, and he put the rest together.
Stewart is a professional graphic designer, so if you are looking for someone who is 100% legitimate and vouched for by us, get in touch with him. He works remotely, so you don't need to see his wee face if you don't want to. You can get him via the tag or at:

More than one person requested the Scots Gaurds Chanter, but with a little twist. This was the first time I got the chance to take some pictures in the sunlight. Bit of a shame this was a limited edition...
The first matt Patriot headed out recently. The gloss finish of the wood against the matt metal work really made the engraving pop.
DM me if you know of or are someone who wants a bit of pretty easy spark work.
A snap shot of a couple of pieces of engraving that went out on this week's chanters. We can pretty much do anything, and it's a nice way to really personalise a Maverick chanter.
