Part of the DIY community. We release records, promote shows and more. Active since 2011. life is hard, music is good.
Due to the sudden closure of the 13th Note this show will now happen at The Flying Duck. Its gonna be class and you should come. There will be a collection for 13th Note staff who have lpst their jobs with no notice. They are also welcome at the show, free of charge.
The 13th Note has been ordered to close until the owner resolves massive health and safety issues. As a result Sunday's show is now being held at The Flying Duck. Door times and price is the same. I would like to thank Kay at the 13th Note for her help in sorting this out during a stressful week for me and offer our support to the staff at the Note. Come down and enjoy some of the best music Scotland has to offer right now.

10 YEARS OF STRUGGLE
For me, the first Struggle show represents the real kick off for the label. Nick had been approached by Bloc to see if he was interested in a monthly slot and he thought it would be a good idea to showcase the label and build a community around it by hosting bands and friends.
This first show was crazy, Yeah Detroit opened, followed by the sadly shortlived Flags Raised.
The reaction to Wolves at Heart's set was amazing, crowdsurfing, shoeys and constant singalongs from the assembled crew. Folk had come down from Aberdeen for the show and it felt like we had something exciting on our hands.
From then on 2011 was a crazy first year, we booked shows at Bloc every month, plus a few elsewhere. We worked with a bunch of amazing bands on releases, physically, digitally and through distro. I was doing something Struggletown related every single day, including serving burritos to bands in Taco Mazama which turned into a bit of a hangout for the punk scene.
Looking back, it felt like we were doing something for ourselves, adding our friends music into the massive global movement around DIY punk, pop punk, hardcore and indie that blew up at the time.
We went on to book 60+ shows at Bloc+, and plenty more in other venues. The space to bring people together and the financial support to do so from them was essential to keeping the label going, without Bloc, there would have been no Struggletown.

To celebrate 10 years of Struggletown, we have put together this 'coffee table' zine with 72 full colour, digital pages, and over 130 photos, flyers, covers, graphics, and more chosen from the past decade.
Since the label began, we've been lucky enough to give a platform to hundreds of amazing bands, releasing records, distro-ing other labels, putting on shows, and designing merch and record covers for countless others. This zine could never hope to cover every awesome thing we got to be part of, but it's a great slice of the community that grew around our DIY label in Glasgow.
Photos by: John Farrell, Shaun Murawski, Neil Jarvie, Kashif Saghar, Keir O'Donnell, Christina Riley, Calum McMillan, Julia Steiner, Aimee Young, Flo, David Tan & In The Woods.
Bands include: Wolves At Heart, Carnivores, Thin Privilege, Koji, Prevenge, Bad Luck, Into It. Over It., The Great Albatross, Slowlight, Carson Wells, No Island, Bear Arms, Veto., Nai Harvest, Prawn, football, etc, Drug Church, Ratboys, Flakes & Chrissy Barnacle.
There are very few words, aside from a huge list of bands, venues, labels, and names that was a terrible idea and I am sorry if I missed you out.
All profits will go towards a DIY show or two once it's safe to do so - supporting bands and venues as we start to work out how to rebuild our music scene in a post-COVID world.
If you would like to look through the zine, but don't have the funds to buy one - email [email protected] and I will send you a digital link.

So when the first gigs happen again, I assume we're gonna see queues round the block for tiny venues. People asking to pay double the door price. Merch stands selling out before the first chorus is played. Hordes of screaming fans forming for even the most obscure local bands, et cetera.
Our longtime buddy and collaborator Calum Doris' band Bad Luck have released a set of demos, ideas and new 'Old Songs'. This band is a who's who of excellent local musicians. Check it out at badluck1987.bandcamp.com/album/old-songs

Origin story!
I caught up with Keir O'Donnell from Wolves At Heart to talk about how he got started in music, being the only mosher in his school, starting the band and the origins of Struggletown. Without meeting Keir as a barista back in the day, I doubt I would have made the leap to running a label. It's a really cool conversation, check it out on the website and available on Spotify etc.
These photos predate Struggletown by a year, taken by Shaun Murawski in 2010, while shooting photos for the cover of the Be Your Own Best Friend EP.
