Current state of the Antje: contemplating Christmas spinning! How gorgeous are these festive colourways?

This November 1st, we're seeing a lot of folk taking up the November Knitting Challenge, which is great! Also, by complete coincidence, we've had contact from Gartnavel Hospital, asking for help in sourcing Twiddle Muffs for their dementia patients. A match made in heaven, no?

As some of you may know, this is a cause very close to my heart and from experience of loved ones with dementia, these could be a godsend.

I'll leave the details to Nikki:

"Hello, my name is Nikki. I am one of the activity coordinators at Gartnavel Hospital, working with elderly patients, some of whom are affected by dementia.

We are currently looking for donations of Twiddle Muffs. We only have a few left, and once these are given to a patient, we can't keep or rotate them due to infection control.

We would be forever grateful for any donation of Twiddle Muffs. If they could be machine washable, that would be perfect, but it doesn't have to be. We would be simply happy with anything at all.

Unfortunately, we do not get a budget for activities, and hence I am reaching out to the community.

It's our birthday*!

The Yarn Cake is 14 today and still going strong....we're in new premises and I've earned quite a few grey hairs since, but I'm so grateful to still be able to do this every single day! I've wound myself a skein of WYS BFL Fleece to celebrate.

Here's hoping for another 14 years of yarn squishing, fibre spinning, cake eating, coffee drinking and spending time with all our fabulous customers!

Delighted to have new yarn in store! The brand new Fable range by is a stunning brushed Aran weight blend of British alpaca, British mohair and Falkland Wool, in a palette of natural, earthy tones.

Knitwear designers Chloé Elizabeth Birch and Debbie Bliss have collaborated with WYS to produce “Folklore”, a beautiful pattern book to showcase the Fable yarn.

We've hit some unexpected and unavoidable staffing issues and won't be able to open today, unfortunately. Currently trying to work out a plan for Knit Night, so please assume that's running as normal unless you hear otherwise. You might be stuck with me (Antje), though.

We might not be at ....but we've got the next best thing! This year's Wool Week Annual launched today and we have a whole stack of them for your perusing pleasure.

These never disappoint - patterns, beautiful photography, and just a lot of knitterly joy. We've just had a delivery of J&S in to support the book, which are waiting to go on the system and shelves.

Yarnstravaganza is back and our spin the wheel hasn't stopped spinning all day! We've got sweeties, discounts and other delights for you!

We were planning on showing you our pretty autumn display and tell you all about the new stock that's arrived this week....but our plans got totally derailed by this celebrity visitor!

Coffee, cake and yarn: the Sunday of champions!

We’re here from 11am to 4pm to see you through the weekend.

If coffee isn’t your jam, there are some spaces left for knit night this evening (5pm to 8pm); unlimited tea, a slice of cake, and a relaxed session to work away on your current WIP of choice.

Yarnstravaganza is back!

Yarnstravaganza is an annual event run by the UK Hand Knitting Association, and celebrates local yarn stores like ourselves. We couldn’t do what we do without our lovely customers, so we can’t wait to share the fun with you!

From the 28th September to 5th October, we will have some fun activities, games and prize draws for you lucky folk who come to visit us. More details to follow in the coming week.

It's been a week of doing battle with deliveries! But we've won the import challenge (thanks, Brexit) and now have all 7 new Scheepjes Whirl colours in stock! Plus yarn bowls, more of the Festival of Lights kits and more colour packs!

Kinross () has arrived!

Jen heroically hauled it up the hill from our delivery office and is now happily Gollum-ing behind a pile of squishy yarn, calling everyone that's been waiting for colours to come in.

We've also got two brand new shades, Seaglass and Tablet, which are lovely gentle shades that go beautifully with the existing range. They'll be up on the shelves and system shortly!

Happy Tuesday! Let’s play a game…guess which of our eagerly anticipated yarn deliveries is stuck in limbo with Royal Mail…

Worry not, as soon as we have it, we’ll be shouting from the rooftops to let you know! !

Spin Sunday is back 😁

Pop in with your wheel or spindle from 11am to 4pm today. We have plenty of tea, coffee and cake to fuel you!

Shop is open as usual for other yarny needs, so if you don’t spin please don’t feel like you can’t pop by! Come and see why we love it so much 🥰

Knit night is on from 5pm to 8pm and we still have a few spaces left if you’d like to join us! All fibre crafts welcome.

Seasonal offerings!

I know it feels early, but seasonal crafting is definitely upon us, so we thought we'd whet your appetites with some Christmas sock yarn and fun spooky and Christmassy buttons! I'm particularly fond of the snowman buttons top right.

We are delighted to announce Moss as the winner of our Islesburgh Toorie Knit Along this summer! 🥳 Moss we will be in touch to give you your goody bag!

All successful entires were entered into a prize draw, with the winner randomly selected. Which is just as well because we’d never have been able to make a decision ourselves 😂

All of the Toories are beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed knitting them with you, and if you took part, we hope you did too!
