In the early hours of last Saturday 17th Aug . We received an EPIRB (emergency position indicating radio beacon) alert from MCC which gave a position in the Irish sea mid way between Peel on the Isle of Man and Strangford lough. As per HM Coastguard standard operating procedures we went straight into distress phase and requested a helo from our Aeronautical Rescue coordination centre.
R116 was tasked from the Irish Coastguard based in Dublin. Peel ALB and Donaghadee ALB was also tasked.
We put out a MAYDAY relay broadcast and a large cargo vessel named Romandie bound for Dublin responded and headed for the position given. A short time later we received another alert from MCC this time from a PLB (personal location beacon) close to the position of the EPIRB. As this was 2 sperate alerts HMCG Rescue helo R936 was tasked from North Wales.
The Romadie soon located a 37 FT yacht with 3 persons on board which had been de masted in strong winds and was disabled and drifting about with the rigging banging of the yachts side.
Peel ALB arrived on scene and an RNLI crew member was put on board the yacht and confirmed the 2 identification numbers of the beacons, once everyone was confirmed to be accounted for we stood down the Helos. The Romandie provided a Lee for the lifeboats and later we stood the vessel down with very many thanks. The lifeboat crew members cut away the rigging and Peel lifeboat towed the stricken yacht into Peel.
This incident shows the importance of carrying an Eprib, PLB or ideally both!

Kip Marina is one of the busiest boatyards and marinas in Scotland, catering for all types of pleasure and smaller commercial craft.

General duties for this post include 📌
Working as part of a team to assist in marina operations including boat movements, machinery operations, berthing, storage & safety checks and other related tasks.
Boat lifts and Mast lifts.
Keeping the marina clean & tidy and assisting with day to day running of the yard and more.

You will receive training on all the necessary machinery within the marina to build on skills and assist in all aspects of the job.

British Marine can offer a good career path in the marine industry and Kip Marina are regularly partaking in their training to improve staff skills and knowledge.

This role is a fantastic opportunity to progress within the marine industry and join a fantastic team at Kip Marina.

6 students braved the elements this weekend to attend the RYA powerboat level 2. Well done all gaining their boat driving licenses. Great to have Specialist Search Dogs training on the water with us. We run these courses every week.
