Over 1,900 artists and music professionals have come together to sign @the_smia Open Letter on the Culture Funding Crisis. The letter is being sent today – @creativescots Open Fund for Individuals is now closed. We urge the Scottish Government to immediately reinstate Creative Scotland’s Open Fund for Individuals and Youth Music Funds, and confirm the planned £25 million increase in cultural funding for 2025 will be secured by the start of the new financial year (1 April 2025). @mogwaiband headline the first ever @bigcityscot festival in Glasgow Queen’s Park on Sat 29 June! Together with @regularmusicuk, the band have curated a massive line up of pals, peers and legends including @slowdiveofficial, @michael__rother, @nadineshah and @beakbristol, alongside a major @rockactionrecs contingent including @smellybdrmm, @sacredpaws, @cloth_band and @kathrynjoseph_ ✨ #repost @bigcityscot Mogwai formed in 1995 in Glasgow. The band consists of Stuart Braithwaite (guitar, vocals), Barry Burns (guitar, piano, synthesizer, vocals), Dominic Aitchison (bass guitar) and Martin Bulloch (drums). Since 1997, the band have released ten studio albums, with their most recent, 2021’s As The Love Continues, being a commercial and critical success, reaching number 1 on the Official UK Album Charts, amassing a Mercury Prize nomination and winning the Scottish Album of the Year award. The band have also released multiple EPs and contributed the score to projects for Amazon Prime and Apple TV+. Last month, it was announced that Blazing Griffin, Adler Entertainment, Rock Action Records and Screen Scotland had completed post-production of Mogwai: If The Stars Had A Sound, a first documentary about the band, directed by longtime collaborator Antony Crook. The documentary will have its World Premiere at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, in March 2024. Mogwai established the Glasgow-based independent record label Rock Action Records in 1996. Originally set up to allow the band to release their own music, the label has grown from its DIY origins of the mid-1990’s Glasgow scene to an internationally renowned and distributed label that after 25 years retains the ethos and independent spirit that defines Mogwai as a band. Rock Action has been responsible for releasing music from a diverse range of artists both local to Glasgow and internationally, counting many critically acclaimed albums in its catalogue.
