The Glasgow Climbing Centre

Women in Adventure, is a series of talks being held on August 16th 2024!

The evening will be hosted by Mollie Hughes, Ocean Vertical Director and two time Everest Summiteer, Mollie will be giving a talk to share her experiences in the outdoors community.
There will also be Iona from Iona Adventuring who will talk about life as an outdoor influencer.
Also welcomed to the stage for a talk will be Charlotte Workman, Creative Director at The Adventure Photographers.

The event is being held as a fundraiser by Ocean Vertical to help raise funds for 35 young women to complete a life changing trekking and guide training program!
The Programme is run by Empowering Women of Nepal (EWN), and is a cause we would like to support.

How old is your harness?

There is no doubt that careful use can avoid many potential problems. However, they do have a working life, and this should not be exceeded.

Regular examination of the key parts of the harness should be done regularly, including all tape sections, stitched joints, buckles and other adjusting devices.

If an examination of your harness reveals cuts, tears or serious abrasions
in the webbing, buckles or adjusting devices appear damaged, then you
should seriously consider discarding the harness straight away. If in doubt,
compare your harness with a new one in a shop, or contact the manufacturer for advice.

Current advice from most manufacturers is that a harness has a maximum shelf life of around 10 years. With average use (weekends, once during the week and a couple of holidays per year) a harness should generally last for 5 years, although as with ropes, this could be as little as a few months, or even a single use in extreme cases.

One of our most popular events is back for the fifth time!
Pitch Black 2024 is a 12 hour endurance climbing competition through the night.

In teams of two you climb for as much as possible to score points, with points being awarded based on difficulty or length of climb.
This is a lead climbing only event.
Entry costs £40 per pair.

The Flavour Bomb Kitchen are on hand to help with nutrition to keep you going throughout the night with 3 amazing dishes and snacks, for a supplemental £25 per person.

Things to know before booking:
-Lead Climbing event throughout the night.
-Long periods of darkness with climbing done by headtorch (Not Provided, bring your own)
-Amazing prizes to be won!
-Meals and snacks provided throughout the night by the Flavour Bomb Kitchen
-Speed and tactics often beat strength and high grades. (Podium places have been won by teams� climbing routes graded 4 – 5+, lots of them!)
