Using motifs from this year’s pieces and the last 3 years of Actual Size, all company members came together to create the work, enabling a sense of everything coming full circle and giving us closure to embark on whatever comes our way afterwards.

evermore explores evolution through the journey of humans, how we try to keep our balance, but to move forward, to evolve, we need to lose it and find it again and again. The piece is influenced by the dynamics and shapes of water, and how humans have no control of the currents beneath the surface that shift us.

Georgia has recently completed a BA Dance degree at Surrey. She has loved being a part of the Actual Size family this year and she is really proud of what we managed to create during the strange time of the pandemic. Georgia is really looking forward to watching the final piece!

Mary is a final year dance student at the University of Surrey. She has been a member of actual size dance company for three years and previously volunteered as the assistant director of the company. She is pleased to have an opportunity to perform again for the first time in two years amidst the pandemic and excited to continue choreographing as a freelance artist in her new career after graduating.

“When creating Spare some change, Make a change, the overexaggerated characters were just as important as the movement itself. Working with the theme of socio-economic systems that divide the rich and the poor, my material revolves around how each character would perform the movement creating subtle and more obvious differences as the piece progresses. The story that unravels in the piece represents a dream of equality that could happen in society if we put the energy and resources into the right people.” - Jas

MEET THE COMPANY✨

Paris has just completed her degree in dance. She joined Actual Size this year looking to challenge herself and explore movement more creatively. She really enjoyed diving into the choreographing and playing with boundaries, weight and speed. Paris felt that Actual Size was a safe haven during the pandemic, not only allowing her and other company members to be supported as movers and groovers but Jasmine and Adina really highlighted well-being which made the experience so delightful!🤩🌞

Lydia has proudly just completed her degree in dance and has been an Actual Size member from her first year. Her focus during her final year in the company and studying has been experimenting with her limits and comfort zones as well as working in a different environment as a dancer and a choreographer. Lydia has really enjoyed working with the other choreographers and seeing all their ideas unfold into movement.

Jemima is a Theatre and Performance student and has been a member of Actual Size for the past two years. She has loved the creative challenges and professional development that has come with being in the company. She has especially appreciated returning to the studios after lockdowns and is so excited to share the work we've been making during such a difficult time.

Celine is a final year BA (Hons) Dance student graduating this year and has been a part of Actual Size since her second year in 2018/2019. She has particularly enjoyed choreographing for the comapny this year and embracing her last moments dancing alongside such talented individuals. She has loved the experience of the family feeling in Actual Size, supporting one another through a very challenging year as well as gaining professional development and inspiration as a dancer and choreographer. She felt Actual Size also provided her with a safe space to make and perform movement away from her degree that everyone enjoyed and was passionate about, delving into somatic practice and the feeling of movement, and creating work that is at a professional standard.

Ivana is a very happy and positive person, ready to try and experience new things and she has a real passion for dance and performance. However this past year as a member of Actual Size dance company she has been found it to be quite challenging physically than she expected. She has however received support of the team and her friends making the rehearsals exciting. With the ongoing world situation she can proudly say that she achieved being a member of the company alongside her studies and managed to launch her online stretching and dance classes as well.

Liv is a recent graduate from the Theatre & Performance course at GSA. Despite the challenges of the past year, she is so proud of what Actual Size managed to achieve. With her background as a physical theatre performer it has been an amazing experience for her to be a part of a dance company as both a dancer and choreographer, liv has learnt so much and hopes to work with these fabulous dancers beyond our time at university together.

From exploring the vast solar system to the smallest nuances of human life, the piece weaves universal concepts and personal experiences of transformation. Ever-developing patterns of movement are linked to the emotional voyage of relationships with oneself and others.
(R)Evolution was created as an anthology of stories about change, welcoming new possibilities with each bold step taken to pave a way forward.
