A very VERY big thank you to our wonderful guest speaker Joshua Levine on Tuesday.

It was amazing hearing about the history and the process behind the scenes that went into the film/script, and the book. What was most evident throughout the talk, was the amount of dedication and research that was put into

Also, shout out to for collabing with us on this one. It was a pleasure! @ University of Surrey

Online Research with Surveys and Polls | SurveyMonkey 20/11/2019

Hi Everyone!
As people who were at the last meeting will know, I'm conducting a survey about gender neutral bathrooms for an article for the Stag magazine. If you could please take 3 minutes of your time to answer it, that would be really helpful! Also, to those who answered it already, I changed some of the questions so if you could please complete it again, that would be really helpful. Thank you!

I know I struggled with poetry but definitely enjoyed it! If you want to, please tell us about your experiences below and any suggestions you might have. Also feel free to share anything you've worked on. Until next time!

Get Memberships 05/10/2019

Hello to all our members, new and old! We've had a lot of questions about our first meeting. Unfortunately there's a student union event on the 8th so we will not be able to have a meeting then; however we have our EGM on the 15th and regular meetings will start after that!
To become an official member, make sure to sign up on the student union website: ussu.co.uk/getinvolved/clubs/join by logging in with your uni email and searching for Surrey Writers. Really important that you do this as otherwise you will not be an official member and might miss out on important information.
Looking forward to meeting everyone soon!
~Sophie

First Year of University: What is Independence? 04/09/2019

Hey guys. The new year hasn't even started yet - but we've already got something amazing to show you! A stunning piece of work by Inaayat Islam depicting his experiences during his first year at Surrey University!

Please check it out at: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/first-year-university-what-independence-inaayat-ul-ismail-islam?fbclid=IwAR1aplJWd1VYUieCPH1ri0c0rVEfK6tw_yO3_ifbR-iMYt9sjW0JmNvXnic

First Year of University: What is Independence? First Things First… After publishing my first article, I felt the need to “outdo” myself. I forgot that not everything in life needed to be a competition – and of all people, I was competing with myself.

Hello Everyone!
My name is Blake and I'm the newly elected Treasurer of Surrey Writers. We held an AGM on Monday (20th May) and revived the group from Dormancy. The committee for this year are:
Sophie Pike - President
Teodor Carețu - Vice President
Blake Fowler - Treasurer
Yangjian Zhou - Social media Coordinator

We will be making a drive to attract new members in September and have a number of fun events planned for next year, so check back on this page for more details in the future :)

05/06/2018

Please accept my apologises for the silence and for not hosting a meeting last month. (Illness, assessments, and my avoidance of social media all played their part.) Beside the apologises, I am making this post for two reason. First, I want to make people aware that, since we did not host an AGM, the society will be falling back into dormancy at the end of the year. I will make some effort to promote the running of the society to first and second years in October, but, unfortunately, I think it is unlikely the society will be resumed. If anyone knows of someone who might like to run the society, or who would like to run it themselves, they should message me, and I will inform them of the process of restarting the society. (They will also need to find a vice president and an accountant – although these post need only be honorary.)
Secondly, I wanted to ask if anyone would be interested in attending a final workshop on the 11th June – or in the week beginning the 11th if another day would work better? If people want to attend and are not hindered by assessments, I will happily host a workshop. And there'll be free bookmarks – and, of course, biscuits – if anybody wants them.

18/03/2018

Unfortunately, we will not be hosting a workshop tomorrow (19th). There will, however, be another workshop after the Easter break and a regular workshop schedule will resume (albeit with less frequency). I apologise for any disappoint caused. And I hope you all that a lovely Easter break!

12/03/2018

I will be there, but I may be ten minutes late. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

11/03/2018

This week we will be looking at ways of narrating a story, with a particular emphasis on unreliable narration, so-called free indirect discourse, and detached/objective narration. If you like 'The Great Gatsby' or 'The Driver's Seat' you should enjoy this week. As always, no prior knowledge is assumed. They will also be cake and biscuits.
By the way, this will be the only creative writing workshop this month, so I'll try to make it a good one.
For all those intrigued, the workshop will be 6p.m. tomorrow (Monday 12th) in 07AC03.
