IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Unfortunately, we have some very sad news.

We have taken the tough decision today to close the shop and put the business up for sale.

The reason is because Debbie has for some month been struggling with a condition called achenbach syndrome, which is a very serious bruising condition affecting the hand and fingers. Recently the condition has spread up her left arm to the elbow and muscles meaning anything she picks up is excruciatingly painful. The condition is not improving and she may need an operation.

If it wasn’t for this condition we would be continuing to trade, hoping to reach our 5th anniversary next year, having acquired the business in April 2019. Along the way we have met some wonderful customers and made great friends.

We thank our staff who have worked with us over the years: Ann, Sarah, Suzy, Katie, Lewis, Rhion, Faye and Teagan. Most of all we thank you – our customers.

The shop is now for sale with Ernest Wilson’s (please see link to our details on their website below). If you are interested – or know anyone who may be interested – please message your network, family and friends and get them to contact Ernest Wilson’s. We will support any new owner with a handover training and introduction to our main suppliers, who we have excellent trading relationships with, to get the new owners off to a great start.

We are sorry it has come to this, but Debbie needs to focus on getting herself back to health.

Fish & Chips - Leasehold in Halifax - FISH AND CHIPS FISH AND CHIPS

Some of you may have heard this afternoon a car ran into our shop.

Thankfully no one was seriously hurt.

The only damage to our shop has been minor damage to the door as you can see in the photo.

We have discussed the matter between us and we have taken the decision to still open tonight from 5pm to 7pm.

We are still open and will be for the rest of the week.

Tonight has been a humdinging night! We’ve been totally rushed off our feet and have taken nearly double what we would normally take on a Tuesday 😲

We’ve run out of fish so we’re going to close early.

We’re getting extra fish out tonight to defrost so we have plenty for the rest of the week.

All our fish is freshly caught frozen Icelandic haddock. It looks and cooks beautiful! Hope to see you all soon! 😃

Yayyyyy! The roadworks and temporary traffic lights have gone today! 😃😮😃⚡️💥

For 8 weeks we’ve had the temporary inconvenience of roadworks and temporary traffic lights outside the shop at Lydgate, while a new traffic island and roadworks were prepared for the new Sainsbury mini market opening nearby opposite Northowram Garage.

Well finally, they have gone, and we are pleased to say customers can now get to our shop easily and park up opposite and nearby.

Here’s how we’re dressed to cope with the heat 😂

On a more serious note: the heatwave temperatures over 30 degrees put our staff at risk, with hot pans increasing the temperatures inside the shop another 5 degrees, we don’t want staff fainting and burning themselves.

Therefore we have taken the decision for the remainder of this week to only open Thursday (11th) and Friday (12th) lunchtimes, and be closed Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturday (13th) lunchtime as well.

We hope everyone understands our reason for doing this and hope you all enjoy the fabulous sunshine! 😃 xx

For those of you who have a cat, or cats, consider this:

A tin of a popular brand of cat food is now £1.20 for 390 grams, or 13.75 ounces.

Three of our cat bags, at 9 ounces each, which comes to 27 ounces is £1.40

So for almost the same price you get double the amount with our cat bags.

And when you also consider what they put in tins of cat food: colouring, preservatives, emulsifiers and heaven knows what else; versus our natural fresh haddock frozen straight from the sea….. 🤔

…..which would your cat prefer? 😃

PS: cat bags are scraps from our preparation process: skirting, ends, pieces too small. Contain no bones.

For the Northowram Scarecrow Event at the beginning of May we made Scollop the Cat.

Scollop proved so popular, especially with the children, it seemed a shame to throw it away. So we’ve put Scollop in a pride of place above our fish drawer where he can try to “steal” our fish with his fishing rod 😃

Last week a customer came in, saw Scollop - laughed - and then donated a cuddly toy teddy bear to keep Scollop company 🙂

If we can make people laugh and smile, during these tough times we’re living in, then we feel we’re doing our little bit to make the world a better place ❤️

We are open Jubilee Thursday 2nd June from 11.30am

We are closed Friday 3rd June and Saturday 4th June.

We reopen as normal on Tuesday 7th June at 12 noon.

Due to the success of the amazing Northowram Scarecrow Event over the Bank Holiday weekend, the first event since 2019, we were absolutely cleaned out of chips by the crowd of people who came to the village to see the scarecrows and participate in the community and live events.

We even made and entered our very own scarecrow: Scollop the Cat, who had his picture taken many times with children and adults alike. All in Good Fun! 😃

So when we’ve restocked we’ll be open again Wednesday 4th May and look forward to seeing you all soon! 😃❤️

Battered Butties! 😃

Due to an increasing number of requests: “Can we do Battered Butties?” the answer is yes we can do.

So much so that from Tuesday 29th, Wednesday 30th June, plus Thursday 1st July, we’ll be doing a 3 day free taste tester. If it proves popular we’ll make Battered Butties a regular addition to the menu.

On the pictures you see a Battered Chip Butty with Spanish Onion Rings and Gravy; and on the other picture a Battered Fish Butty with Chips and Curry Sauce! 😃 Both are quite large, extremely filling and very delicious! 😃
