Janesville Upholstery
Modern and traditional upholstery services in the Hamptons and surrounding areas. There is a link to my store if you would like to treat yourself.
All the items for sale in Janesville are vintage, upholstered or hand-made by me.
Pip has redecorated her spare room with lovely pale blue striped wallpaper. This chair is the finishing touch to be added to the room. The underlying upholstery was in good condition apart from the calico, which I replaced. I then re-covered it in a soft blue-grey velvet from Linwood with self piping to finish and gave the wood a clean and some dark wax. I imagine her cat will be very happy to have it back.
Finally got a chance this year to make new seat and back cushions for my own furniture. This teak daybed is beautiful to look at but it had a soft foam cushion which wasn’t very supportive and only had bolster cushions to lean on. It has a very deep seat so it needed more support. I wanted it to have a softer look than you might get with foam cushions but don’t want to spend all day plumping so I opted for feather cushions with a foam core and kept it minimal with just two large cushions. I made new covers with Freya fabric from Linwood in Yorkstone colourway, a luxurious but hard wearing woven fabric and then I can mix things up with scatter cushions ✨
Modern sofa reupholstered in brushed cotton from Linwood. Replaced the seat cushions but re-used the very comfortable feather back cushions at customer request. There was quite a surprise underneath the covers as the foam was moulded to a mostly metal frame, so the cover had to be made almost like a loose cover and then fixed on
Deirdre is a lovely customer who has given me lots of chairs to revamp over the last few years and always chooses the most divine fabric. Isn’t this Temperley fabric from Romo just stunning? This was a very straightforward recover of a chair that needed no other work so a quick way to update a room.
Two lovely chairs from early 20th century that were looking a little worn, updated with navy moleskin fabric and new cushions. Woodwork given a good clean and wax.
My lovely customer wanted four of these chairs reupholstered in the same fabric, which coordinates with her kitchen. The seats had always felt too thin and were sagging in the middle, so I replaced with a firmer foam in double thickness on the seat and back and made new covers in the new eco version (made with recycled materials) of this vinyl and voila! Not new but definitely improved…
A few process shots from yesterday’s chair…
This little armchair weighed a tonne when it arrived as there were so many layers of padding that had been added over the years but the structure had failed and it needed to be rebuilt traditionally from the frame up. Bottom of legs still to be refinished before return to customer. This chair belonged to customer’s Dad so has great sentimental value.
Final job of the year. It was a head scratcher on occasion because of an addition to the frame which was holding it all together very securely that I had to work around, then a geometric print on curves in every direction but very happy with the result and it will look great in Rick and Lulu’s lovely house and now they won’t be bouncing around on the seat as it has had a full rebuild and the springs are all tied in this time! Over and out from me for 2023. Hope everyone has a healthy and happy Christmas and see you in the New Year! 🎄🎅
Single headboard re-covered in Jim Thompson fabric
Some more wild fabric choices this week. First up, this little double backed settee in Emma Shipley printed velvet. The underlying traditional upholstery was in fantastic condition, last done in 1968, according to the note written on the frame. The frame had been restored and repaired before it came to me, hence the good condition and shine.
Lovely new chunky upholstery fabrics just arrived from Christopher Farr. Perfect snuggly winter vibes
Bernie had stripped his mother’s chair of its old padding and it came to me as just bare bones, needing new springs and a total rebuild. The fixings for the springs were too far gone so I replaced them with spring plates and a quilted platform to protect the cushion. I cleaned up the wood and he chose a lovely blue velvet to finish it off. Ta-da 🪄✨
Little caned chair restored and woodwork refinished and then passed onto me for reupholstery in traditional materials with a natural linen cover to echo the colour of the new cane.
Freshly reupholstered ottoman storage box and matching cushion. The box was sourced second hand and is awaiting a new set of legs and the lovely fabric is from Linwood.
Rekha had two classic sofas that she loved but were looking a bit worn and very dated. She chose this vibrant fabric and I replaced the cushions for a firmer seat, saving two more sofas from landfill 👍🏻
Really wild fabric going on this sofa 🐆
