Today we had a very special visit from 2 gorgeous puppies....the lovely Moss who is only 10 weeks old, and Nova who is 6 months.
They behaved so well and brought so much joy when we took them round the units and in to the bedrooms to meet the residents. Everyone loved chatting to Moss's owner and learning about his breed, and feeding Nova her treats. It was wonderful to see the positive impact the puppies made, and smiles on all the residents faces.
Thank you to Lara Woodall and Abbie Stocks, we look forward to seeing them both again soon.
Ready steady bake 🍪
These lovely ladies put on their aprons and had great fun weighing, mixing and baking these soft goey chocolate chip cookies today. They were popped in the oven at lunch time and were ready to sample with a cuppa this afternoon.
Baking brings everyone together, stimulates the senses (sight, sound, smell, taste) and helps to boost mental capacity and trigger happy memories.
Yesterday we celebrated our lovely Christine's birthday with a song and another delicious cake made by our kitchen staff. We hope you had a wonderful day with all your friends Christine.
Back to exercises on Monday with Georgi Conrad.
This week's focus was dance aerobics with some lively music through the ages to wake us all up and get our circulation going.
Georgi got the residents joining in with scarves, tambourines and shakers while they sang along to the songs.
Our ladies love playing the roll it in game.
The idea is to roll the ball through the arches to score the highest points. It a good game to help with concentration and coordination as well as building confidence.
Oh Eva you never fail to make us all laugh.
The residents loved watching her sing and it was so brave to get up in front of everyone.
What amazing staff we have here at TGL, always trying our best to privide a happy and fun environment for our residents to keep them smiling.
What fun everyone had.
Well done to Scott for keeping us all entertained and to all our mad staff that got involved too.
Peter enjoying a duet with Scott.
Well done Peter you were fantastic, and even looked the part for our Halloween party too.
Getting the residents together to enjoy some board games and dominoes is a fun way for them to socialise and interact with different people that they don't usually sit with. It also helps to exercise cognitive skills and increase brain function.
Halloween party time
One of our staff members, Scott, bravely got out the karaoke machine and performed some songs for our residents. They loved singing along, and a couple of residents even got dressed up in hats and masks for the event. Music is always a favourite activity that brings everyone together for a lovely social interactive morning. Well done to our 2 crazy carers Eva and Verity for giving it a go too.....maybe don't give up your day job just yet!
Thank you to our kitchen staff for the wonderful and delicious cakes, they looked and tasted fantastic.
Last week Georgi Conrad organised some wonderful, spooky Halloween games for our residents as a change from her usual exercise class. They had such a fantastic time joining in and getting messy, by putting their hands in the buckets of slime and worms (spaghetti) to find objects and treats. The ping pong game was also a big hit too. Thank you Georgi for all your effort and for bringing a smile to lots of happy faces.
Our ladies got together on Rydens unit today and had a wonderful time colouring in some Remembrance Day pictures, whilst listening to Chas and Dave. Thank you to Claire for kindly bringing in some delicious doughnuts for everyone to share with their cuppa too.
Earlier in the week some of our residents got busy painting some clay ornaments they'd previously made. While others tried their hand at a bit of canvas painting. It was a very creative session, and everyone has such a nice time chatting to each other and proudly showing off their work. Well done to all, they look great.
A few more pictures from today's cafe lunch.
A few of our ladies enjoyed a trip to our local cafe for some lunch today.
It was great to get out in the fresh air and beautiful sunshine for a bit of exercise and engage in a bit of socialising.
What a treat we had yesterday afternoon.
A huge thank you to Pearl for giving up her time to bring in her beautiful puppy Spud to show the residents. He was an absolute delight and such a good boy being passed around so that we could all have a cuddle. He visited the lounges and lots of bedrooms, which brought huge smiles to the faces of all the residents that saw him. Everyone fell in love with him and didn't want him to leave.
What a fantastic day we all had yesterday.
Our activity worker Celia, and carer Verity, took some of the residents to Harlow bowling alley to try something new. Everyone had so much fun and it even got quite competitive at times between the two teams. It was so lovely to see some of the residents that don't come out very often joining in and having the best time. It was a huge success and we can't wait to do it again soon.
While some of our residents were busy with the pumpkin carving a few others engaged in a spot of colouring in.
They enjoyed being part of the happy busy atmosphere, whilst creating some fantastic halloween pictures.
