Afternoon all.

A job we did last week in Harold Wood might just of been our toughest window job yet.

If you open your window and see anything like this, we highly recommend getting it replaced sooner rather than later as eventually it will fail (normally in the closed position).

Unfortunately the handle was completely fused into the gearbox by rust so had to be cut off and the window keeps had broken, again due to rust.

A happy customer in the end as we managed to remove and replace the mechanism, handle and keeps.

A busy few weeks for us with customers taking advantage of the 20% off of lock upgrades through December.

Unfortunately we are seeing a rise in attempted burglaries throughout Essex, so let’s do all we can to keep the idiots out!

Firstly and foremost, make sure you have British Standard locks installed. Many attacks are done by the intruders snapping the lock. Having locks that are British Standard makes this process much more difficult for the attacker!

Once you have British Standard locks installed, another great way of improving the security is by installing SashStops. A cost effective way of adding extra security our homes!

Whenever possible find someone local.

I did this job yesterday for a customer in Emerson Park and I was their third quote. A door repair company said that the whole door needed replacing and quoted over £700 plus VAT. A national locksmith company said they could fix it but quoted £320 plus VAT.

It wasn’t a cheap part and is one of the more expensive jobs we do but certainly not near those figures.

A customers lock had completely failed. It was a challenge to remove the old lock as it was covered in 25 years worth of rust.

We managed to identify the lock and replace.

Morning all.

I have been made aware of a few of these of late, so I thought I would share.

If a Locksmith (or any tradesman for that matter) claims they can do a job for £39 then it’s very likely you will be hit with an invoice like these guys have.

You really can’t run a business charging those prices. By the time you have paid tax, petrol, stock, insurance etc you would be left with nothing.

They claim to be £39/£49 but on arrival will often say a job can’t be done without drilling the lock. They then pass you an invoice in the hundreds.

We have some brilliant Locksmith and Glazing Repair companies in Essex so try avoiding national companies.

WHAT IS LOCK SNAPPING?

Unfortunately it is one of the most common methods for Burglars/Intruders to gain entry into our homes. They will simply snap the lock off and then use a screwdriver or something similar to open our door.

If you don't have a British Standard or Anti-Snap locks fitted or, you have poorly fitted Euro cylinders like the one pictured below, then your door will be a burglars dream.

Many insurance companies are now asking if you have Anti-Snap locks in your policy questionnaires.

Please take a minute to look at the cylinder in your front and back doors, if they appear old then they probably aren’t Anti-Snap and if they are not flush with your handles, just like the picture below, then they are vulnerable to attack.

Afternoon all. I thought I’d share a job we did for a customer in Harold wood.

You can see from the first picture a piece of the centre case had snapped off, unfortunately meaning the customer could no longer lock her door.

The customer did mention the lock had been difficult to turn for a few weeks before it eventually broke.

What can start off as a simple door adjustment, can potentially lead to a much bigger issue if left.

We replaced the broken case and got the door working like new.
