We are enjoying the festive season at preschool, today we have made Christmas wreaths, decorated chrismas tree decorations and read books in our cosy corner.
We have helped fix Santa’s village with our tools and then we’ve done some Christmas maths and phonics.
All before 11am.
Even the rabbits are joining in the Christmas fun.

PHASE 1 PHONICS in the Sapling’s class (pre-School)

Before children learn to read and write they need to develop their phonological and phonemic awareness; being able to listen and identify sounds and understand how they go together in words. Phase 1 phonics facilitates this and provides the gateway to early reading and writing.

Every few weeks we look at a sound, the last couple of weeks we have looked at the sound ‘S’ ‘ssssssssss’ as it links to our focus topic of Summer and the Seaside. The children accessed activities that incorporated this sound. They also played a listening game which enabled them to hear the different sounds. We played hide and seek where the children went to find items that started with the sound ‘S’. They did amazing!!! A little every day really does help 😊
We have ‘Sparkly Sand’, ‘Sparkly Slime’, ‘Rice’, ‘Spade’, ‘Star’, Sea creatures and many more.

We have had a wonderful first week back after half term. We have certainly enjoyed and made the most of the sunshine.
The construction site has been a big hit as always and children use many parts of their bodies as they build. Crawling, stretching, grabbing and pulling help them to exercise their developing muscles. Using the bricks and spades is useful for developing children's fine motor skills as fingers become coordinated and connect to grip.
As always, we love the dinosaurs. They help to teach children about earth, life and the natural world.

This week we have talked a lot about bonfire night, fireworks and safety. Making it fun but also teaching children about keeping safe!
We’ve talked about different celebrations where fireworks may be used and firefighters and how they keep us safe, encouraging childrens knowledge and understanding of the world by exploring different occupations and celebrations.
The children have loved making firework pictures and rockets, these activities are great for helping with development by being expressive with art and design and being creative with different materials. 😊 💥

This looks great fun! Something free to do this week and there’s a treat at the end 😊 such a lovely idea 🎃
