I want to share a few crazy comments with you that I've had in the past 12 hours. What inspired these comments? The fact I painted a pane of glass... a little extreme don't you think.
Im an ex-prison officer so I feel like I've had every insult thrown at me under the sun (with physical assault too) in the REAL world, so I often find it easy to laugh these comments off, but these are beyond the usual ignorant "don't paint that" comments and go to a whole new level of nastiness and it made me want to say a few things about the kind of people that leave these comments...
Basically they are incredibly unhappy, unfulfilled people who gain a momentary feeling of control and power by a simply leaving a hateful comment on social media. A happy person would never, ever feel the need to go to these levels of toxic. So PLEASE whilst these comments are not nice, NEVER let the crazies on the Internet stop you from putting yourself and your work out there. You are building something for yourself, creating something and being fearless. These people are often sh*t scared of their own mind and find it easier to drag people down to their level, rather then doing something positive for themselves, out of their comfort zone.
On another note, if you are someone who leaves negative comments on people's social media feeds, whether or not you think it is warranted of funny... think about your kids and grandkids. Often these people are full-grown adults and I often think what kind of online world are they creating for younger kids. We should be setting an example of creating safe online communities... not showing younger people that bullying online and death threats are totally okay... I mean they're "influencers" right? Anyone who is putting themselves out there online deserves what they get.. it's a crazy mentality to have! Most of us are small businesses, using social media as a tool to keep ourselves afloat!
Anyway that is my two pence worth for the day!
Be kind to one another.
If I told you this unpainted vintage towel rail was amongst one of my more strenuous projects... would you believe me? π€
The towel rail started it's life off as a set of really well-made step ladders. However once they reached me, they were crusty and rusted, with thick splodges of paint and wood filler all over them.
Since towel rails online can be crazy expensive online and well vintage step-ladders go super cheap at auctions, I decided to get to making one!
It took A LOT of work cleaning, removing old screws (that was a thankless job π), sanding, staining and then finally, waxing, using Dixie Belle Paint Voodo Gel Stain & Big Mamma's Butta.
I love that they are something I made and that they are vintage and repurposed too!
I thought I'd share a throwback piece this evening... and this one goes all the way back to 2020!
This piece was originally Edwardian when I first bought it, but it was quite battered. So I completely transformed it with Dixie Belle Paint Company Chalk Mineral Paints bu giving it a Mediterranean Inspired makeover!
There are some cringe lives back in my video feed if anyone dare watch them ππ
What are your thoughts on this shabby pastel decor scheme?
Happy Halloween every one! π
Don't you just love a moody setting?!
I gave this chair a makeover for my mum and used one of my favourite Dixie Belle products - Copper Patina Paint & Green Spray. It speeds up the rust process and creates a lovely and genuine patina. As though the copper has spent years oxidising!
Morning all! The shop is now back open until 5pm today π Nearly everything in the shop is listed on my website, so if you're not local be sure to check it out! Lots of painted pieces as well as vintage!
Have a lovely day! β€οΈ
It has been another great Paint Your Own Piece Workshop today. I genuinely love these workshops! The ladies were lovely company and painted some amazing pieces!
If you fancy a fun, creative and sociable day then my next workshop is at the end of Jan. I'll pop the link in the comments. There are only FOUR places available! As I like to keep these workshops quite small and intimate π
My latest piece is this beautiful sideboard and it has been given a very romantic, faded grandeur makeover!
As this piece already had gorgeous carvings, I decided to highlight these as much as possible. So I layered Dixie Terra Clay Paints and then peeled them back to give an aged effect. I then glazed and gilded with gold for that extra touch of elegance!
This one is now available on my website and a tutorial will be out later in the week.
This chair was one of those fun, relaxing kind of projects. Painted in Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paints I used in Savannah Mist as a base.cost and In the Navy over the top, with some lovely handpainted folk art florals in contrasting oranges and reds.
This one is available on my website β¨οΈ
I've been somewhat MIA on my social media this month and while the algorithm doesn't love it, my mind for sure has! As small business owners sometimes, we often wear ALL the hats and don't often know when to tell ourselves to wind down. There's always more we could be doing to be productive, whether it's (in my case) a piece of furniture I could be cleaning / painting, a piece to be listing, an auction to be watching, social media to be active on, admin or marketing etc. etc. etc.
You get the point!
So this month after taking my holiday, I decided to ease in back to work, take some of the pressure off and feel better and more productive for it!
Anyway! I'm also glad to say this rustic piece has now sold, to a lovely local Harrogate lady. It's one of those pieces I'm going to miss π
Wishing you all a fab week and I'll be sure to catchup on my social media this week too β€οΈ
Hey guys! Check out this gorgeous vintage Louis XIV chaise that has just been added to my shop! It's quite an unusual chaise as it has a double seat and so is often called a "kissing seat" or "lovers chair!
I'm quite gutted to be listing this, but I no longer have the rook for it in my shop. If you're interested I'll drop the link in the comments, or feel free to drop me a message π
We recently got back from a short break to Florence and I have to say, it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited.
Everything and I mean EVERYTHING was painted, whether it was architecture, furniture, frescoes on walls... the city is full of colour and character(and lots of gold). I thought I'd share a few of my favourite pics from the trip!
A creepy yet cute little upcycle, made from old broken ceramic dolls, using Gilding Wax.
So I saw a bunch of old ceramic, broken pieces of doll at an auction and feel oddly compelled to buy them π I love the way they turned out! I feel a bit of shimmer and a plant can make anything look good! Do you agree?
It seems fitting while currently on a break in the Mediterranean, this Mediterranean inspired piece has now sold!
We're currently on a trip to Florence, so hoping to get so much more inspiration for these painted type pieces!
Morning guys! The shop will be closed this week as Jez and me are off on our hols to Florence. If you're interested in anything, a lot of items are listed on my website (lots of new handmade pick n' mix aromatic wax melts to be added soon π), or feel free to drop me a message if you have any enquiries!
Morning all! In between bigger projects, I've been working on this cute little piece. I found them while hunting at a carboot and I just loved the Pyramid shape.
These have been hand painted with a blue ombre colour, creating texture with Terra Clay Paints and embellished with a little gold gilding wax.
The drawers are available on my website now!
Another fun paint project is finished and I love the way this blanket box turned out! We have been in desperate need of one in the living room, so this one will be coming home with me.
Painted in Dixie Belle Paint Company Terra Clay Paints, I wanted this folk art piece to be colourful, but also have an organic look about it. Whenever I've looked at vintage folk art, it is very rarely perfectly symmetrical, so I made sure not to be too focused on that and just enjoyed the colours and shapes instead! What do you think? π€
Sharing a little peek of what I've been working on today. It's been another lovely painting day of folk art and colour! π
I so loved this folk are furniture makeover!!
Morning! Just letting you know I have only one space left on October's Paint a Piece Workshop.
This is a fun day where you get to bring your own small piece of furniture or home decor to paint, receive full tuition and products and then get to take your masterpiece home with you!
The workshops are limited to 4 people to keep the classes focused & intimate. It's open to all levels and you don't need to do anything to the furniture prior to arriving!
More details here or feel free to drop me a DM π

Check out this AMAZINGLY FUN rustic, boho makeover! ππ
Romance is in the air with this piece. Faded grandeur meets a little bit of colour!
To create this piece I layered lots of Dixie Belle Paint Company Terra Clay Paints and then peeled them back to make it look aged. I then added a little bronze gilding wax to some of the details.
This piece is now available on my website!
Apologies - the shop is closed today due to illness. Should be back open tomorrow!

Make Furniture Your Art
Hi there! I'm Jodie Flavell and thank you for visiting my page!
I have always been a lover of style, especially of days gone by when style was lasting and meant something. The days when people used to save for that one special, unique item, which would sit proudly in their home. I'm invested in going back to those ways.
When I paint a piece of furniture I work on it as a piece art. I want something interesting and colourful in my customer's homes that is eye-catching and lasting. Something that sparks a conversation when visitors arrive, which is like no other.
All of my furniture is painted in VOC free Dixie Belle Chalk Paint.
I am a Brand Ambassador for Redesign with Prima and Content Creator for Dixie Belle Paint, so I can vouch for the high quality of the products I use.
If you have a piece that has been sitting looking tired for a while, I also take on commissions.
