Friends and family of Nourish – it’s been a while!

Many of you are already aware however I know lots of you aren’t, so it feels the right time to share with you all my decision to close the doors of Nourish at the end of last year.

So many of you have reached out and sent messages wanting to know what is happening, if I’m okay and if we will be re-opening. I haven’t been able to respond to all of you, yet I want you to know that your support means so much.

By the end of last year, I had reached the point within the business where I just didn’t feel able to continue. I was completely exhausted and had reached total burn out. After taking some time to rest and recalibrate I made the decision that we would not be re-opening. While a part of me felt pretty devastated, I also felt a big sense of relief. It felt like a huge weight I had been carrying had been lifted and I knew within every cell of my being that I was making the right decision.

I have done a lot of reflecting over the last few months and SO much has been learnt through this experience, not only on a business level but also on a deeply personal level – of which I will share more on. A friend once said to me that running your own business will shine a light on your deepest darkest shadows…and boy was she right!

With all endings come new beginnings…this is an undeniable cycle of life and when we surrender to the flow of this, we allow whatever needs to fall away to fall and we make space for the new to be birthed - even when we have no idea what that is or what it is going to look like. And yes, that can feel absolutely terrifying for sure…but when we take that leap of faith we open ourselves up to a world of infinite possibilities and opportunities…

Introducing our all natural, organic, vegan skincare range from Soul Apothecary.

Starting with a clay cleanser for the face to give you a deep but gentle way of removing make up and dead skin cells, the earthy goodness of the clay draws out excess dirt and sebum, something other foam based cleansers don't, and a salt scrub rooted in organic coconut oil, scented with vanilla designed to leave your skin smooth and polished, why not seal all the nourishment in by finishing off with our intense body butter made with an infusion of Tahitian Gardenia Flowers in Organic Coconut Oil which melts on contact with the skin. A little goes a long way.

Pop along and browse the shelves, have a sniff and try from the tester pots and treat yourself or a friend this weekend.

First discovered in South America, grapefruits grow in clusters like grapes, hence the name which was invented by a Jamaican farmer in the 1800s. A single grapefruit tree can produce over 1,500 pounds of fruit!

Said to be one of the seven wonders of Barbados, grapefruits weren’t distinguished from the pomelo until the 1830s, when it was given the name Citrus paradisi.

Full to the brim with vitamin C which helps to boost the immune system, grapefruits also combat free radicals which can otherwise reek havoc in the body. Being 92% water, the grapefruit has one of the highest water contents of any fruit which makes it a great ingredient for our cold pressed juice, aptly named Get Up & Go Go!!

Being an astringent fruit, grapefruits aid the liver in cleansing unhealthy toxins from the body. Detoxification of the liver helps with chronic conditions such as depression, muscle stiffness and headaches. Try sprinkling them over a green summer salad or making a dressing with olive oil, grapefruit juice, a dash of maple syrup and a touch of salt and pepper.

Sometimes all we need is to make a small tweak to our daily routine. Adding a daily green juice to your diet can do wonders for not only your body health but also your overall wellbeing. Green juice provides your body with instantly absorbable nutrition. Rich in nutrient density including vitamins A, C and E, Vitamin C and E help to clear the skin and vitamin A is crucial for cell growth and regeneration.

Green juices are also highly hydrating and help to improve energy levels throughout the day, preventing that daily reach for a caffeine fix. By converting fat storing cells to fat burning ones, green juice also helps with weight loss.

Our Get Your Greens cold pressed juice is filled with around 1kg of freshly pressed fruit goodness including green apple, cucumber, cavolo nero, romaine lettuce and zingy ginger. Available to have in or take away every day!

22/06/2022

Evergreen, avocado is the name of the fruit bearing tree and the fruit itself. Full of fibre, potassium, vitamin B6 and C, the popular avocado is high in monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats, essential for building cell membranes and covering the nerves, blood clotting and muscle movement, reducing inflammation, lowering the risk of heart disease as well as anti-cancer effects.

With mood boosting folate, carotenoids to protect and maintain healthy cells in your eyes and also helping to reduce high blood sugar, high cholesterol and high blood pressure, it's easy to see why the avocado is in such high demand.

If you are new to avocados, a gentle squeeze with the fingers will make the avocado yield under pressure when ripe. If it's ready but you're not quite ready to eat it yet, pop it in the fridge until you are. If you only want to eat half at a time, squeezing a little lemon juice on will prevent browning.

From basil avocado pesto to avo chocolate mousse there's a myriad of ways to get your avocado nutrient goodness every day including in our smoothies and smoothie bowls!

16/06/2022

Need a little magick in your life? Try our zingy, Magick Moringa Bowl, full of green goodness! Being one of the most popular fruits in the world, bananas are one of the few foods that contain all six of the major vitamin groups.

Grown on giant plants and not on trees, bananas are picked when they're green and are botanically classed as a berry.

Originating from the Arab word, 'banan', meaning fingertip, explains why a bunch of bananas is called a hand!

Used in a variety of dishes from curry to ice-cream, bananas have a medley of health benefits too. Due to their high level of potassium, bananas help to keep the heart healthy and normalise blood pressure. Unripe bananas contain a considerable amount of starch and pectins, which support the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, promoting colon health.

Packed with a variety of essential vitamins, minerals and health promoting plant compounds, it's easy to see why bananas are the basis of many of our smoothies and smoothie bowls.

All hail the banana! 🍌🍌🍌

Watermelons will always hold a special place in our hearts, thanks to our favourite quote from our favourite film, but that's not the only reason we love them!

Known to aid with heart disease, water retention and muscle soreness, watermelons are 92% water and are one of the only foods to be classified as both a fruit and a vegetable.

The heaviest watermelon ever recorded was 350lbs! It is also one of the few fruits that are entirely edible..the flesh, the seeds and even the rind!

A watermelon's high water content and calcium and potassium levels contributes to their ability to flush toxins out of the kidneys, which is why one of our favourite juices is made with watermelon, strawberry and basil!

A sprinkling of edible flowers adds that special touch to many of our smoothie bowls and salads, but did you know that many flowers have natural health benefits too?

Take the humble violet for example. With anti-inflammatory properties boosting blood vessel health, violets are also good for treating respiratory ailments.

The aromatic rose has been used by the Chinese to treat digestive and menstrual disorders for hundreds of years. Containing vitamins A and E and a large amount of water, the beautiful rose nourishes the body from the inside out.

Mother Nature provides all that we need to thrive and be healthy. You just have to know where to look 🌸

27/05/2022

Did you know that the heaviest blueberry weighed to date was 11.28g? That's more than the weight of 5 hummingbirds!

Interestingly enough there are also over 50 varieties of blueberries, including Spartan, Herbert and Patriot and are believed to have been part of the human diet for over 13,000 years.

Whether fresh or frozen, the mighty blueberry protects against heart disease, improves bone health, encourages blood circulation and helps control blood sugar levels.

Often labelled a superfood, blueberries still contain all of their antioxidant properties, even when frozen, making them one of the easiest ways to add nutrients to your diet.

Creating community is a really important part of what we create here at Nourish and is one of the reasons why we use Easy Jose coffee too.

The Mayni community who live in the remote Amazon rainforest, expertly handpick your coffee, minimising the damage and destruction commonly associated with traditional coffee farms.

Dalia pictured here, grows and processes all of her own coffee, and yet still finds time to help other members of her community to reach their coffee goals.

Each coffee that you buy from us, supports and nourishes this isolated community, ensuring it's safety and the longevity of their coffee cultivating community.

Magnificent Mango Friday!

First grown in India over 5,000 years ago, mangoes were brought over from Asia around 300 or 400 AD. Containing over 20 different vitamins and minerals, mangoes are classed as a superfood.

With 3/4 cup of mango providing 50% of your daily vitamin C, 8% of your daily Vitamin A and 8% of your daily vitamin B6, including being fat free, sodium free and cholesterol free, it’s easy to see why.

Due to the amount of fibre per mango they’re also really good for your gut health, with one serving (3/4 cup) of mango containing 7% of your daily fibre.

Not only has our beloved mango bark, leaves, skin, flesh, and the pit been used in folk remedies for centuries, it is also a symbol of love in India.

You might be wondering why is it so important to raise your vibration anyway?

When you consider that the emotions and feelings associated with love, happiness and joy all vibrate at the higher frequencies, while hate, fear and anger vibrate at the lower end of the scale, and that bearing in mind that we are all energetic beings you can begin to understand why.

To attract what you want to feel, be, do or have in your life, including complete health, we need to be at the same vibration as the object of our desire.

When talking about food specifically, high vibrational foods are those that have a greater level of light. High vibration foods nourish your body, assist with detoxification and raise your vibrational frequency!

Knowing that the highest vibrational foods are nutrient rich, raw, organic fruit, you can begin to understand the importance of increasing the amount of fruit in your diet.

Just making a gradual shift away from lower vibration food, such as refined processed sugar, dairy and caffeine towards eating more fruit and vegetables you may begin to notice a shift in your mood, your thoughts and your overall wellbeing.

One of the reasons we're so passionate about our smoothie bowls and cold pressed juices is not only because of how good they taste but because we know how good they are for attracting all the good vibes in life!

17/05/2022

The humble strawberry. A member of the rose family, the strawberry, or, fragia ananassa to give it it's proper name is the only fruit to wear it's seeds on the outside, making it technically not a berry at all!

Containing more vitamin C than oranges they also help reduce inflammation, improve heart health, lower the risk of developing cancer and lower blood pressure.

During medieval times strawberries were served at ceremonies believing they would bring peace and harmony.

Raw strawberries are 91% water, 8% carbohydrates and 1% protein.

Found in our Very Berry Smoothie Bowl, strawberries are believed to be an aphrodisiac which is why they are consumed at wedding ceremonies!

Originally from Brazil, and later imported to Europe, pineapples are naturally pollinated by the hummingbird.

Traditionally given as a gift of friendship, it takes 2 years for a pineapple plant to produce fruit. Pineapples are also known as Ananas, which means "Excellent fruit" in Brazilian Tupi. With a host of nutritional benefits it's easy to see why!

Pineapples are rich in manganese, copper and vitamins B6 and C, aiding in bone health, immunity, wound healing and energy production.

Rich in antioxidants, they also protect the body from damage and disease. Also a source of bromelain, pineapples may help reduce inflammation. Bromelain is also responsible for breaking down protein, therefore helping in the digestion of food.

All hail the pineapple!!

Did you know that blessing your food before you eat it not only raises the energetic vibration of everything you put in your body but also encourages conscious eating and activates the digestion process.

Being grateful for the farmers who grew the vegetables, the greengrocer for making the food easily accessible, the chef who prepared your meal when you're out or your friend or loved one who has lovingly prepared your favourite meal, all these elements make you recognise all the steps that have gone into bringing your meal to the table.

When we take the time to appreciate the food in front of us it gives us the opportunity to receive it fully and enjoy it completely.
