Ensemble Pro Victoria is established as one of Europe’s finest young vocal ensembles. Recently Gramophone-nominated and recording on the Delphian label, it brings together the finest consort singers in Britain for visceral live performances. Featuring a strong Yorkshire and Celtic contingent - hear them at their best on home turf! 🎉

This weekend sees St Wilfrid's hosting the 2022 Harrogate Advent Festival - four days of sublime music led by our Director of Music Anthony Gray and Ensemble Pro Victoria

Friday 25th November
1pm Festival Organ Recital - Philip Moore's Nativitas with Anthony Gray

7pm - A Ceremony of Carols - A programme centred around Britten's canonic Ceremony of Carols, including a world premiere of a new Advent work by Niki Zodhi and featuring harpist Cecily Beer and Ensemble Pro Victoria

Saturday 26th November - 2pm - 5pm Come and Sing Handel's Messiah with a performance at 6:30pm. Handel's legendary oratorio, with festival co-director Toby Ward and four international soloists from Ensemble Pro Victoria.

Sunday 27th November
10am - Advent I Mass
5pm - Advent Procession

A busy season ahead with a record number of 10(!) Britten 'A Ceremony of Carols' performances! Very excited to appear with each and every one of these choirs and groups. In particularly, Ensemble Pro Victoria who are hosting me for 4 separate performances here, there and everywhere starting next Friday for their Harrogate Advent Festival.

These performances will feature between playing at The Waldorf as usual, a few weddings and corporate events, and playing over Tylney Hall Hotel's Boxing Day lunch on the 26th. When I won't be harping on, I'll probably be found singing many a carol service at St Bartholomew the Great. Christmastide is nearly upon us!

Building on the inaugural 2021 festival, the 2022 festival sees an enhanced programme of choral services, the return of Ensemble Pro Victoria for A Ceremony of Carols with Cecily Beer - Harpist, and a come-and-sing Handel Messiah with international soloists.

We welcome the eminent Philip Moore (composer and organist emeritus of York Minster), who will present the festival recital of his new work Nativitas, given by St Wilfrid’s Director of Music Anthony Gray, and look forward to the timeless Advent Sunday Procession: the start of the Advent season proper. 🕯
