I am very much looking forward to seeing and hearing Mark Hill speak at the Glass & Ceramics Fair. I am hoping he will cast his eye over my dappled green UFO vase, which is signed Labino. Plate No 3
Dominick Labino worked for NASA in their space programme, numerous patents in his name, an innovator in glass, he went on to work his glass studio when he left NASA. This is the sort of glass I would hope he would make, I think of 3 astronauts returning to Earth in the Apollo command module.
The 3 fattest lava amigos I have ever seen are ES keramik, plate - 4. Mark from will bring the best of his West German Pottery.
Plate 5, another shot of Barnaby Powell's large blue threaded bowl for Whitefriars in natural light.
Look forward to seeing you on the 12th
Oresund Interiors will be sharing a stand with Gallery 42 from Tadcaster at the Glass & Ceramics fair on the 12th May 2024.

The Remarkable Life of Mari Simmulson.
It's a wonder this fish plaque exists at all. What a journey.
Mari Simmulson (1911-2000) was born to Estonian parents in St. Petersburg, Russia. At the start of the Russian revolution in 1917, the family moved back to Estonia. During the 1930s, Mari studied at the State Art School in Tallinn. After her formal education, Mari further developed her skills at the nearby Arabia porcelain factory in Helsinki.
After marrying, Mari moved to Munich, where she studied sculpture. When World War II began, Mari fled to Sweden on a fishing boat. She was forced to leave behind her family and relatives, with whom she would never be reunited.
In 1945, Mari Simmulson began working at Gustavsbergs Porcelain Factory. There, she was fortunate to work alongside the factory’s legendary leader, Wilhelm Kage. Mari’s creative output ranged from unique sculptures to small animal figurines.
The Upsala-Ekeby years
Mari left Gustavsberg in 1949, taking a position at Upsala-Ekeby. Together with Hjordis Oldfors and Ingrid Atterberg, she completed a trio of influential female designers who set the tone for the company in the fifties. Mari would remain at the factory until 1972, designing a variety of dishware, vases, wall plates, bowls, and figurines. She often opted for bold, colourful decor, offering a clear contrast to dark, unadorned pottery.
Helmut Friedrich Scäffenacker, born in Ulm in 1921. He completed his apprenticeship in 1949 with sculptor Rudolf Pauschinger. He founded his studio atelier Scäffenacker in 1948.
He has received a large number of national and international prizes for his ceramic work. It is documented and I am paraphrasing.
"The variety and number of wall panels are unique in Germany. The entire ceramic oeuvre of the designer and artist Scäffenacker is probably looking for it's equal anywhere in the world."
In 1993 due to his age, the artist's ceramic work ended when he had his kiln in his studio dismantled.
