Do you know anyone thats had a stroke in Harrow?

(Please share to others in Harrow)

We would like to direct you to this wonderful free project that comes in two parts.

A Partnership between, NWL Health, Chelsea Football club, The Stoke Association and other caring organisations.

Post Stroke Healthy Living peer group @ ParkLife Cafe

Stage 1: 12 week course is free, loaded with clever professionals, support and help to get you back up and running

Stage 2: lifesytle peer group held at ParkLife Cafe

Come to ParkLife Cafe on a Tuesday between 3-5pm and chat with other stroke victims, learn from your peers

https://harrowweald.com/bridging-the-blues

Directions to ParkLife: https://harrowweald.com/opening-directions

The club was started by a group of stroke survivors with the help of a trained and practicing physiotherapist.

The aim of the group is to support people who have had strokes and to share with each other experiences, information etc. as we adapt to life post-stroke.

The first hour of the meeting starts off with a walk or run, for those who are able, around the park. Then we may have some exercises in the park or if the weather is wet, follow an exercise video in the café. These exercises are aimed at helping with mobility, balance and muscle strength.

In the second hour there are a number of activities ranging from playing board games/puzzles to crafting eg crochet / knitting. If people do not wish to participate in the activities they are optional and they can stay for a chat with people who have had similar experiences to their own.

if you know anyone who has experienced a stroke use this link to find out how they can access the early stage of this brilliant free project.

Tourists who visit Copenhagen this summer could be treated to a free kayak rental or complimentary cup of coffee if they make environmentally friendly choices during their trip to the Danish capital.

The city announced earlier this month that it was rolling out a new initiative, called CopenPay, in an effort to incentivize more sustainable behaviors among visitors, such as walking, biking, taking public transit and picking up litter.

"It's about creating meaningful and memorable experiences that are enjoyable and environmentally responsible," said Mikkel Aarø Hansen, CEO of Wonderful Copenhagen, the city's tourism agency.
Tourism in Europe Recovers Causing Delight and Dismay
State of the World from NPR
Tourism in Europe recovers, causing delight and dismay

Arrive at the National Museum by bike or public transit, and you'll get a free ice cream made from local rhubarb, strawberry and licorice when you buy your ticket. Pick up trash in the BaneGaarden area for a free organic meal. GreenKayak will let you take out a kayak at no charge if you collect trash on the water and post about it on social media.

Officials say participants can show train tickets or photos of themselves engaging in these climate-friendly activities as proof, but also noted that the scheme is "built on trust, just as Danish society is the most trusting in the world, according to PEW Research."

The pilot program comes as residents in other parts of Europe have been denouncing — and in some cases confronting — the droves of tourists who flock to its historic cities and picturesque beaches every year, contributing to rapid development and higher costs for locals.
Tourism ruined my city. Tourism is saving my city

In Spain, protests erupted in the Canary Islands in response to overtourism, and demonstrators in Barcelona recently fired water pistols at diners. Venice limited tour groups to 25 people this year and imposed an entrance fee on some tourists, though critics said the pilot program targeting daytrippers did little to reduce crowds.

Copenhagen officials say they are not trying to increase tourism, but rather to reduce the environmental impact that tourism currently has on the city of more than 600,000 people.

Last year, Copenhagen drew 12 million international overnight stays, the tourism board said.

The pilot program launches on Monday with 24 participating institutions and will continue until Aug. 11. Officials say they hope it will become a year-round program and expand beyond Copenhagen.

Cancer Loyalty Card Study (CLOCS) an observational case-control

study of purchase behaviour prior to ovarian cancer diagnosis

Partners: Imperial College London (PerC)
Presenter: Dr James M Flanagan
Department: Faculty of Medicine, Department of Surgery & Cancer
Date: 11th July 2024 19:01 until 20:59

The Cancer Loyalty Card Study (CLOCS) is an observational case-control study developed to test this hypothesis.

The main results from CLOCS show that purchases of pain and indigestion medication were detected up to 8 months prior to diagnosis for ovarian cancer patients compared with controls. This occurs well in advance of the patient’s self-reported first GP visit approximately 3.5 months prior to diagnosis.
