Harrow Threads
A group of artists from Harrow Open Studios are jointly working on a project to record how living in or visiting Harrow makes you feel.
Feelings have tumbled in and are being stitched
Last week we met up to bring together the fabrics we have been embroidering to see how they are going to fit together. We think they’re working well together to create an interesting textile piece. We’re almost at the stage of piecing them together, watch this space!
If you’re coming to the annual Village Show today you can see the embroidery in progress on the Harrow Culture Forum stand. Open 12-5.
Please vote today, especially if you feel disillusioned by politics. There are many options to choose from. Not voting is worse!
You can still have your say on our embroidery project too, we’ve extended the deadline, submit your word through the link in our bio.
Three of our artists have their work on display this weekend with . Visit them between 11-5pm.

They will have the stitching on display and you can chat about the project.
All six artists are stitching onto different vintage tablecloths and napkins to create this piece. The words we stitch are telling the story of how Harrow currently feels about the borough.
These fabrics will be stitched together to create a wall hanging or quilt once we have embroidered all the words.
To add your word, head to the link below. But hurry we’re closing the form very soon.

Sorting out our vintage linens.
A group of artists from Harrow Open Studios are jointly working on a project to record how living in or visiting Harrow makes you feel.
After attending a local action group aimed at improving an area of Harrow, one of the questions asked of the attendees was how you felt about living in the area. The response from most people was similar, which led us to wonder, how do other people feel about the part of Harrow they live in?
Inspired by the ‘Sewing and Suffrage’ embroidered tablecloth at Headstone Manor & Museum, the 6 artists will embroider the one word answers from residents and visitors of Harrow, onto repurposed textiles to create a wall hanging or quilt.
The finished piece will be exhibited at a Harrow location and will be free to view in 2025.
We would love to hear what your ‘feeling’ is, click on the link and be part of this project.

First stitched word, completed on an old napkin, kindly donated to the project.
Looking through old tablecloths, napkins, handkerchiefs, before starting to stitch the words. Unfortunately, as it's all white, it does discolour when left in a drawer, so it needs washing first.
The first words we received as a response to our question are being stitched onto cloth. It’s really interesting to read how living in Harrow makes people feel.
Not everyone has responded with a feeling, some have described how they view the borough. If you’ve not yet let us know your word, describing your emotion, please do so as soon as you can.

Please share with friends so we can get as wide a perspective as possible.
Our artists are exhibiting their work in this group exhibition, come and see it.
Yesterday we met to plan the layout of our embroidered piece and discuss ideas before we start stitching.
If you’ve yet to tell us how you FEEL about living in or visiting Harrow, click the link in our bio and be part of this project.
The Suffrage Tablecloth at Headstone Manor and Museum inspired our project, so we’re thinking of the courageous women who fought for ‘Votes for Women’ today.
There is still time to vote today, make your voice count!
