Why is cooling down after exercise important? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ญ

Cooling down helps your body transition from high-intensity activity to rest, helping your heart rate and breathing return to normal, and reducing muscle stiffness. This can improve your recovery time, leaving you ready for your next workout sooner!

Your cool down should focus on light aerobic activity to gradually lower your heart rate, followed by stretching to lengthen the muscles youโ€™ve just worked out. For example, a slow walk followed by stretches for your hamstrings, quads, and calves is ideal after a run.

Time to cool down from the with these 3 easy exercises! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

1๏ธโƒฃ Quad Stretch
Stand tall and grab your right ankle with your right hand. Pull your ankle towards your glutes, keeping your knees together. Hold for 20-30 seconds, then switch legs.

2๏ธโƒฃ Standing Forward Fold
Stand with your feet hip-width apart. Slowly bend forward at your hips, reaching towards your toes (or as far as comfortable). Keep your knees slightly bent to avoid putting pressure on your lower back. Hold for 20-30 seconds.

3๏ธโƒฃ Standing IT Band Stretch
Cross your right leg behind your left leg. Reach your right arm overhead and lean to the left, feeling a stretch along your right hip and side. Hold for 20-30 seconds, then switch sides.

Get race-ready for the with these 3 essential stretches! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

1๏ธโƒฃ Hamstring Stretch
Stand with your feet hip-width apart. Extend one leg straight out in front of you and rest your heel on the ground. Keep your back straight and bend forward at the hips towards your extended leg. Hold for 20-30 seconds, then switch legs.

2๏ธโƒฃ Calf Stretch
Stand facing a wall with one foot forward and the other extended back. Press your back heel into the ground while bending the front knee slightly. Hold for 20-30 seconds, then switch legs.

3๏ธโƒฃ Hip Flexor Stretch
Kneel on one knee with the other foot in front, forming a 90-degree angle with both knees. Push your hips forward gently while keeping your back straight. Hold for 20-30 seconds, then switch sides.

Are you unknowingly causing your own foot and ankle pain?

Here are 3 common mistakes that could lead to foot and ankle pain::

๐Ÿ‘  Wearing Unsupportive Footwear: High heels, flip-flops, or shoes with poor arch support can put extra stress on your feet, leading to pain and inflammation. While these options might look fab, try and choose footwear that offers proper support and cushioning to keep your feet happy.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Sudden Increase in Activity: Jumping into a new exercise or ramping up your activity too quickly, as a lot of us might do when the weather picks up (like it has this past weekend!), can strain your feet and ankles. Gradually increase your intensity and duration to allow your body to adapt and strengthen without injury.

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™‚๏ธ Ignoring Stretching and Strengthening Exercises: Forgetting to stretch and strengthen your feet and lower legs can lead to imbalances and weaknesses that contribute to pain. Incorporate exercises that target your calves, Achilles tendon, and arches into your routine.

If you're dealing with Plantar Fasciitis, or even foot pain in general, try this simple pain prevention tip: stretching your feet daily! ๐Ÿ’ก

Try rolling your foot over a cold or frozen bottle (make sure it's sealed first!), or use a towel to gently pull your toes towards you while keeping your leg straight.
