Tomorrow is my first day off in 29 days. Running a small business is not for the weak!

Coming up with new ideas and new products…. Creating stock…. Building a customer base… Marketing…. Social media…. Making deliveries and doing post office runs…. Alarms going off at 5:00AM every Saturday and Sunday…. Travelling all over the country to different markets (some fruitful, some not so much 😂)…. Packing your tiny car to the rafters every time…. Putting up gazebos single-handedly…. Trading in miserable weather conditions…. And constantly learning from your mistakes (you make lots of them). It’s hard work - some would say relentless! - so it’s a good job I love every bit of it 🤍

But, as I am repeatedly told, you can’t pour from an empty cup! So tomorrow I’m heading to Wales for a few days as an early birthday treat (thanks ) and then Monday is my actual birthday and I’m treating myself to an extra day off 🙃

Candlemaking (and packaging up orders and replying to emails) will resume on Tuesday, and I’ve changed my local delivery day next week to Friday - so if you’re placing an order this weekend please bear with me, your candles will be winging their way to you asap 🤍

Chuffed to bits to announce that I’m a finalist in both the ‘sustainability’ and ‘best new business’ categories of the 2024 Surrey SME Business Awards. I’ve worked so hard to ensure that every aspect of EARLEY+DAUGHTERS is as eco friendly as it possibly can be - and I made it my mission this year to ensure that those values are visible - so it means so much that this has been recognised.

Congrats to all the other finalists - I can’t wait to meet you all at the awards ceremony in September! Now I need to find myself a posh frock to wear…. not sure my Blundstones and Barbour will cut it 😂

Thanks to all that came and said hi, I absolutely loved chatting to so many of you today and hearing stories about the memories our fragrances evoke! We had our second best day of takings ever in Richmond, beaten only by the final market before Christmas last year!

Todays (and yesterdays!) bestseller was forget-me-not, which is no surprise taking into account its fresh spa-like scent and insect repelling properties. We also sold a lot of our remaining Hornsea which has prompted me to set the date of our next launch - this will be announced next week and there will be lots of green heirloom and 80s stripes I promise!

Now it’s time for me to unload the car and pour a massive glass of wine. Enjoy your Sunday evenings everyone 🤍

This is a fresh and aromatic fragrance featuring a blend of mandarin, eucalyptus and rosemary, with lavender and geranium. Its benefits are two fold - it’s a great candle to burn outdoors during the summer months due to its insect repelling properties - and is also incredibly calming at the end of a long stressful day.

Historically, forget-me-nots have been a symbol of remembrance for those we have lost, but more recently they are seen as a symbol of true love and devotion. I think this is a beautiful candle to light during moments of reflection and meditation ✨

I know I’m not supposed to have favourite customers (and living here might make me a little bit biased) but OH MY GOD Haslemere, you are THE BEST 🥰

I wasn’t sure how today would pan out as the weather forecast was absolutely diabolical, but I somehow managed to have my second best day of takings ever, despite the temperature being in single figures and the rain being torrential! Our best seller was ‘forget-me-not’, which one lovely customer described as ‘a spa day in a jar’, and it was amazing to see my recycling scheme really taking off locally with so many people returning their empty vessels from previous purchases (you get 10% discount on full price amber glass jar candles when you do).

So big, massive, ginormous thank yous to everyone that popped by for a chat or to buy a candle today! You turned a very soggy and miserable day into an incredible one and I’m very grateful 🤍

I have a couple of weekends off now - but our next markets are on Sunday 26th and ’s Rustic Country Living Fair on bank holiday Monday 27th. Put the dates in your diary and fingers crossed the weather has improved by then x

Every single piece of Hornsea is sourced by me from antique shops and vintage fairs across the country, and the candles are hand poured with our best selling fragrances.

EARLEY+DAUGHTERS is committed to being an eco-friendly business, and having a positive impact on the planet is right at the very top of our list of priorities. We are truly passionate about encouraging people to think similarly and educating them on how to go about it, and it goes without saying that every part of our products has been chosen with the environment in mind.

➕ Our soy wax is 100% sustainably grown, biodegradable and non toxic.
➕ Our fragrance oils are cosmetic grade and cruelty free, as well as being sourced in the UK.
➕ Our amber glass jars are sourced from a British, family run company. They are made in the UK from partially recycled glass and are fully recyclable in turn. A lot of imported amber glass is heat treated which makes it non recyclable. Ours is not and can be popped into the recycling no problem.
➕ Our lids are made from aluminium which is infinitely recyclable.
➕ Our labels are FSC certified and recyclable and the adhesive is biodegradable.
➕ Our packaging is deliberately simple - to minimise waste, and to make recycling super easy. Our candles are wrapped in brown Kraft paper and placed in FSC certified cardboard postal boxes amongst biodegradable packing peanuts. If your candle is a gift you can opt to upgrade to a hand stamped organic cotton gift pouch.

As Jane Goodall once said; “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you”. Make sure the impact you have on our planet is a positive one! ♻️🌿💚

🤎🧡 Hornsea update: please read!

Due to high demand for our Hornsea candles, we’re changing the way we sell them.

Two questions we’re asked all the time are “are they original” and “where do you find them all?”

They are indeed all original pieces of Hornsea pottery from the 1960s and 1970s, and I lovingly source every single one from vintage fairs and antique shops (which is becoming a full time job, but that’s a whole other story!)

Since pouring our first batch in November 2022, I’ve been adding them to the website as I find and pour them. This takes a lot of time and as I upload them without notice, people often miss out on the ones they’d like.

So! Moving forward I will be adding new batches online in larger quantities and letting you know in advance when this is going to be. This will give everyone a chance to get one and will also make my life a bit easier when it comes to pouring and admin 😂 I anticipate this will be every 4-6 weeks but to kept in the loop please sign up to my mailing list or keep an eye on here!

With that in mind, our next big Hornsea drop will be at 8:00PM on Friday 3rd May - and there will be egg cups, spice pots and sugar bowls in the full range of patterns. There are currently still a few for sale online but when they’re gone that’s it until 3rd May! Please save the date 🤍

Wow. Not quite sure where to start! Back home after an incredible day at the iconic with . It was WITHOUT doubt the most perfectly organised and well curated market I have ever been to - hats off to you, Daisy and Liv! Record breaking sales, the loveliest traders and customers, and don’t get me started on all the cute dogs 🤭🐶

Today’s best selling fragrances were ‘late summer’ and ‘awaken’, but the stars of the show were our little Hornsea egg cups! I brought my entire stash, never in a million years thinking I’d sell them all but I did - and the limited run of nine Hornsea sugar bowl candles I poured especially for this event all sold out too.

THANK YOU to everyone that stopped by to buy a candle or for a chat, special shout out to my dad and my cousins 🥰 I honestly had the best day, even though I didn’t manage to stop for lunch until 5:30PM and my legs feel like they’re going to fall off 😂

I wasn’t surprised that ‘awaken’ hit the top spot this month - with top notes of pear, bergamot and lemon, heart notes of magnolia, and base notes of amber and patchouli, this is the ultimate spring fragrance - a perfect mix of fresh and floral! It’s one of my personal favourites, in fact I love it so much at this time of year I decided to deviate away from the ‘wild fig’ and fill our new Hornsea sugar pot candles with it!

Of course if goes without saying - huge, massive, ginormous thank yous to everyone that bought a candle…. I sold out of ‘forget-me-not’, ‘awaken’, ‘dawn’ and ‘petrichor’ today, and was down to my very last Hornsea spice pot when the time came to pack up 🙈

Brocante fans, events are not to be missed! I’ve never seen such amazingly curated vintage collections! And brides + grooms looking for a wedding venue, is absolutely stunning, please look them up 🤍

I’ve had an influx of new followers over the weekend (not sure where you’ve come from but very happy you’re here!!) so thought I’d do a little introductory post 🙃

I’m Katy, founder of EARLEY+DAUGHTERS and mother of two girls. We are ex-Londoners now living in the world’s smallest cottage in deepest, darkest Surrey, along with a menagerie of adopted animals. A few more facts about me and EARLEY+DAUGHTERS for you >>>

🕯️ I make all our candles by hand in my kitchen. I’m currently on the hunt for a workshop as we have totally outgrown working from home!

🌅 This photo was taken at Fowlsheugh in North East Scotland. I studied my family tree in lockdown and discovered that 10 generations (and counting!) of my maternal ancestors all lived in the same tiny fishing village just north of this beautiful spot. It’s one of my favourite places in the world.

Petrichor: “a pleasant smell frequently accompanying the first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather.”

Introducing the newly renamed ‘petrichor’ candle… previously known as ‘terre’.

I realised pretty much as soon as I launched ‘terre’ that I’d made a mistake. I’d wanted to call this candle ‘petrichor’ from the get go, but had comments that it sounded harsh and aggressive which put me into a bit of a panic. After much deliberation I opted for ‘terre’ instead, referring to its earthy scent, but regretted it instantly. But after talking about the blend with so many customers at markets and online, explaining the meaning of the word ‘petrichor’ and actually getting lots of positive feedback, I bit the bullet and decided to re-release it.

This is my absolute favourite candle out of the entire collection - the strong notes of oakmoss, grounded by a woody base of warm amber, is incredibly comforting and refreshing and (I think) really does smell like the earth after a rain storm.

My first three batches of these candles sold out instantly and they have had some really incredible reviews. My fourth batch is currently curing and will be ready to ship on Friday 2nd February 🤍🌧️🕯️
