Our Thursday road session, led by John, was a hit as usual – fun, challenging, and full of laughs!
Our young athletes showcased their hard work at the U13s match in Withdean, Brighton. Head Coach Terry Skelton commended them, saying, "Well done, everyone. We've got some rising stars in the mix!"

Let's keep the momentum going and make this week even better!
East Sussex athletics: London Marathon dominates as Hastings athletes record fine race times The London Marathon was the main focus – though not the only one – for Hastings athletes last weekend.
It’s all about balance! Our kids did amazing last night at Withdean in Brighton at their track meet. They’ve been training hard and seeing results. So we treated them to a McDonald’s afterwards for all their hard work. Balance and fun is key 🔑 to training our athletes, well done guys❤️
Heard about us?? Not sure what we do?? Want to join and don’t know where to start?? Slide along to find out more❤️
Ooo I wonder what’s going on down at the Altitude chambers…🤭
Hey guys!👋 We've been keeping a low profile lately, but rest assured, it's all for a purpose!🤫 Something intriguing is happening behind the scenes, and we're itching to share. Oh, and here's a little incentive: anyone who guesses right scores a free session. Any guesses? Share them below! Hang tight for the big reveal, it's going to be worth it! 🚀
Sorry to the athletes that were forgotten in the HY Weekly Round-up yesterday. A big well done to Emily Sims 3:46, Jamie Webb 4:10, Will Elwood 05:13:52, Louise Henham 04:25:14, and Will Carey 2:47:12. Lots of training and dedication has gone into their training, congratulations on your run and times. HY is proud of you❤️
A reminder, this is for Facebook and Instagram, I personally am not friends with people from HY, unless you tag this HY page, or tag the HY group, or post on the HY group, or tag HY on Instagram. I have no idea if you have competed. Some races you are unable to type in the club you have to manually search, and some of you do not always put the club down when you compete. So please bear with me in gathering information about who runs, I am one person, I am literally typing this whilst at my full-time job, as I hate for anyone to be left out, as we are a team that all supports each other. So each week please remember to tag or post on the HY pages in order to be included.
Back again with another action-packed week for our HY Athletes! But really, who's surprised? These athletes are absolute machines, and we're totally here for it! So, where do we even begin?
Kicking off with our Saturday park-runners, they added an extra 5k to their weekly mileage and smashed it! Jake Coleman surprised himself with a PB, landing 11th with a time of 18:50. Youngster Elsa McSweeney also secured a PB at 24:17. Terry Puxty nailed it at 18:57, Quintin Askes clocked in at 22:32, Adam Morrissy at 23:45, Glenn Cooper at 23:45, Miley Wigmore 26:47, and Holly Wigmore at 26:51.
Next up, our pride and joys, the HY Kids at the YDL match. Massive shoutout to all the kids—they gave it their all, and it truly showed. Even those who've only practiced their event once or twice are showing incredible promise. Let's keep up the momentum with those Friday training sessions and keep improving! (Results pending, but you know our budding athletes bagged some wins and top 3 spots!)
A huge round of applause for all the officials and helpers today—Lisa Buchanan, Sonnii Pine, Ivy B, Jenna Harmer, Matt Harmer, Becky Mabon, Maureen Fletcher, and Carly Hopkins. And let's not forget the parents for getting the kids to the event so they can compete—what a long day it was!
Sunday was all about fun with some Sunday Funday runners hitting the coast with Joe and Jemma O’Gorman enjoying a smiley 4 miles.
Meanwhile, Joe Moore took it international with a half-marathon in Lanzarote, clocking an impressive 2:02:25—all against the backdrop of just himself and the sun. What a feat!
And now, the biggie—the London Marathon! Our athletes have been grinding away with road sessions, track sessions, altitude training, enduring a few injuries, and even sacrificing a few toenails along the way—but boy, did they deliver!
Barry Buchanan nailed his first-ever marathon in 02:54:32. Dylan Bolton followed suit at 03:12:05. Benji Symes rocked it in 03:19:15. Oliver Lockwood ran with the British Heart Foundation in honour of his dad, finishing in 03:21:17—a touching tribute indeed. Nicky Stiles crossed the finish line at 3:39:30, Tom Brampton at 03:43:23, Emma Welch at 03:50:23, and Sharon Mayhew completed her first-ever marathon in 04:01:51. Emily Sim 3:46, Jamie and Webb 4:10
Big shoutout to our HY members who weren’t running but showed up to support our team—Coach Terry Skelton, John Badrock, Lisa, Isabella, and Ivy Buchanan, Fiona Norman-Brown, Stewart Idea, Emma Banham, Stephen, Suzannah, and Ellen Gates, Dan Mayhew, Jenna French, and countless others. Your support and banners keep the club spirit alive and kicking, making HY unlike any other club out there! 🎉👏🏃♂️🏃♀️
Daisy and Florence were lucky enough to meet and chat with Lina and Laviai Nielsen who were training at Lee Valley today. Tough session for the girls, 3x300m x 3, little rest in between, working on their pace followed by an afternoon of long jump training.
You thought the marathon posts were over? Not quite! I want to give a special shout-out to Adam Clarke, a true pillar of our club. Adam, who not only supports us wholeheartedly but is also a second-claim member and a Hastings native, achieved something truly remarkable this Sunday by winning the Manchester Marathon in an incredible time of 2:16:29.
Beyond his outstanding performance on the track, Adam serves as a beacon of inspiration for everyone at the club, as well as for the wider community of Hastings and beyond. From his early days on the running track to his time at St. Mary's University in Twickenham, and now as a co-owner of his own coaching company, , Adam's journey is one of dedication and perseverance. It's worth noting that he also coaches our local talent, Ross Skelton.
Adam's dedication and drive are qualities we all can aspire to. He shows us that there's a world of opportunity out there for those willing to work hard and stay true to themselves. Congratulations, Adam! We're immensely proud of you, and we know you'll continue to achieve great things. Keep being the shining example you are, and keep pushing the boundaries!
Sorry it’s late lads, I actually have a life🫶🏻✌🏼 What an epic weekend for HY AC! Marathon season is in full swing, and we're absolutely loving it!
A special shoutout to John, our road manager, for organising such fantastic and enjoyable road sessions, including Thursday's memorable session at Gensing Gardens. The relay-style setup received high praise from our runners. Well done, John!
Saturday was all about the Hastings Park-Run, where a fantastic group of our runners participated:
Tom Brampton 20:01 13th, Sharon Mayhew 22:44, Tina Wren 23:35, Rebecca Wilson 24:49, Joseph O’Gorman 21:12, Benjamin Jones 21:05.
Alongside Johnathan Hatch coming 3rd with a time of 19:33 in the Market Bosworth Country Park run, smashed it mate! Well done.
And then came Sunday, the highlight of the weekend! Let's dive into the action, starting with the prestigious Manchester Marathon.
Our very own Adam Clarke, a huge supporter of our club, and also second claim with us clinched victory with an impressive time of 02:16:29. Following him, we had John Badrock finishing in 03:22:06, Micky O'Callaghan in 03:34:07, Nicky Sties in 03:35:48, Scott Richford in 03:45:02, and Stewart Ide in 04:45:54.
Now, onto the Kent Spring Marathon & Half Marathon. A huge congratulations to Sonny Mckenzie for completing the full marathon in an impressive time of 04:22:00. Sonny, who joined the club last year, has shown remarkable progress and consistency week after week. Keep an eye on him - he's definitely one to watch!
Moving on to the Half Marathon, we have David Mayes crossing the finish line in an outstanding time of 01:24:19, followed by Todd Fitz-Hugh in 01:35:21, and Jason Johnstone in 02:11:28. Well done, gentlemen - you absolutely smashed it!
Good luck to our lads running Manchester Marathon today, go paint Manchester red❤️ We also have Marshall Smith reping a HY jumper on TV, we love to see it👌

Here's our weekly round-up: We're still buzzing from the weekend's results! Our HY athletes are unstoppable, and this past weekend was no exception. Notably, we cheered on our first-time marathoners at Brighton, alongside seasoned athletes Ben and Joe who also conquered The Brighton Marathon. Kayleigh Skelton tackled the Brighton 10k with determination. Meanwhile, Deb Read, Susan Dunn, and Rosie McSweeney took on the London Landmarks, while Paul Jenner represented us proudly at the Paris Marathon. HY AC isn't just national; we're global, and we couldn't be prouder! Huge congratulations to everyone for their incredible dedication, hard training, and outstanding performances. We're eagerly awaiting to see what you achieve this week and beyond. Let the marathon season officially commence!
Wow what a day at The Brighton Marathon today. I just wanted to reflect on an incredible journey guided by our Head Coach Terry Skelton! Last year, Terry set up a Facebook group, inviting ladies from our club and beyond, many of whom had only experienced short-distance running. His vision? To train this group for the Brighton Marathon. 🏃♀️💨
From those first steps in our road sessions to now, it's been a remarkable transformation. After much persuasion and rallying, the girls finally committed and signed up for the marathon, eventually naming themselves: “The Brighton Marathon Crazies”.
💪Today, we celebrate their perseverance, their grit, and their sheer determination to defy the odds. They've not only embraced a new challenge but have also joined the elite ranks of less than 1% of the world's population who can say, 'I've run a marathon!'
But beyond the finish line for these women running isn't just about crossing milestones; it's about forging bonds, finding joy in the journey, and lifting each other up. These incredible women have embodied that spirit every step of the way. To our phenomenal girls: your dedication inspires us all. 🙌 As a club, we stand in awe of your achievements and the incredible camaraderie you've built. Here's to you, the unstoppable force behind our running family. 💫
(I will be doing a separate post for Ben and Joe who ran in the marathon, for the Brighton 10k and the others that ran in London and Paris. Don’t worry, no one will be forgotten)
