Knit & Natter at The Firs Complex 💜🧶
Since October 2013, Margaret, General Assistant, has been hosting a weekly 'Knit & Natter' group at The Firs Complex in Nottingham.
This initiative has brought together residents who share a passion for knitting and a desire to make a positive impact in the world.
Through their collective efforts, the residents have been crafting cot blankets and baby jumpers, which are then donated to a charity called The Inner Wheel.
These items are carefully assembled into baby bundles and delivered by Nottingham Police Convoy to areas affected by conflict.
The residents' commitment to this cause is truly commendable, and we are immensely proud of their accomplishments. To date, they have produced an impressive total of 338 blankets, each one representing a small but meaningful contribution to the well-being of families in need.

Happy Valentine's Day 🌹
Residents of Abbeyfield Colwyn Bay Society, Marcella and Jim, recently got married ❤️
Here's their love story...
Marcella, who is Italian and has called North Wales home for 37 years, met Jim when she was on a train travelling home after seeing her son. Jim boarded the train as he was going to Llandudno for a holiday.
On the train, Jim sparked up a conversation that would change both their lives. As fate would have it, their paths intertwined when they both had to change at Chester to carry onto North Wales, so they continued chatting on the platform.
After Jim gave Marcella his card with his email on, they finally met up in October 2017 where a passer by took a photo of them at Chester Station.
Despite the distance and life's twists, Marcella and Jim's connection deepened through emails, video calls, and countless hours on Alexa during the pandemic. They video called each other every day and said "that this is what kept their love alive".
Fast forward to March 2023 and Marcella and Jim took the next step in their journey by moving into Abbeyfield.
Their love story is a beautiful reminder that love, patience and connection can withstand the test of time. Here's to a lifetime of love and joy for this lovely couple.

Misty the therapy dog gives Abbeyfield House residents a pedigree experience 🥰🐾
Residents at Abbeyfield House care home in New Malden have been enjoying spending time with a seven-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier called Misty.
Misty is a therapy dog, whose handler Chris is a volunteer for the charity Therapy Dogs Nationwide (TDN). Every Wednesday, Misty visits Abbeyfield House to spend time with the residents.
One resident, Charles, says, “Misty is a lovely dog. Seeing Chris make her do all the tricks she can is really enjoyable to watch. Having had dogs all my life, it is great to see one come visit us. Misty reassures me and makes me calm, just like my own dogs used to do.”

Abbeyfield Wey Valley Society lends a helping hand 🤗🧡
Nower House, Maitland House, David Gresham House, Hatch Mill, Ridgway Court and Wey Valley House care homes, ran their annual campaign to support organisations in their local community in the run-up to the festive season.
Donations connected at each of the homes over several weeks were passed on to Dorking and Farnham Foodbanks, ReadiFood in Reading and the Oxted Community Fridge, who support local people in need at Christmas and all year round.
Abbeyfield Wey Valley CEO, Sally Tidy, said “We are proud of our links to the local community. The support we get throughout the year – whether it is individuals volunteering for our charity, or local organisations supporting our various projects – is absolutely amazing. It is lovely for us to be able to help local people in need within our local area at this time of year. Our residents, staff and their families and friends are always so generous to donate whatever they can.”
