Grow Tuition
We are a tuition centre based in Calderdale run by fully qualified primary and secondary teachers. W Our story:
We really like being teachers.
That’s why we set up Grow Tuition. We still teach in a real school too because we are passionate about helping children learn, develop and grow. What we don’t like very much is stress and pressure on children. That’s another reason why we set up Grow Tuition. There are lots of studies to say that children are really, really stressed at school* and, as teachers, we have seen it for ourselves. We al
We’re here at Salts Mill and our super cultural and extremely knowledgeable head, Sarah, is giving us a tour! More pics to follow!
Focus: linking art, architecture, geography and history.
We were SO HAPPY to welcome full-time Grow School student Leo today! What a wonderful start to 2024 🥳🎉🥰
Well, that was a pretty brilliant year! It’s hard to summarise just what we have managed to achieve in the last 12 months, but let’s give it a go:
In 2023 we;
✅ moved to a larger premises (twice- Pendle and Calderdale)
✅ kitted out and decorated both centres;
✅ were visited by OFSTED;
✅ opened our own school;
✅ provided tuition to hundreds of students across two counties;
✅ enrolled our first full-time students;
✅ engaged the services of 10+ teachers to work with us;
✅ had a really, really lovely time!
A very happy new year to all our students, parents and tutors both past and present. 🥳 🥂
Here’s to seeing what else is possible!

Christmas do time for our amazing team!
You should’ve seen the moves 👀🥰❤️🙌
Things are getting a bit scary down at Grow HQ… but what’s in the skeleton’s mouth? 💀
A very emotional farewell to Georgia, the first student to walk into Grow Tuition in October 2016.
Georgia needed a setting that was as original and alternative as she is, and we learnt so much being on her journey with her.
Wishing you all the very best in the next part of your journey Georgia!
I’m not crying, you’re crying! 🥲
Multidisciplinary, experiential learning taking place today at Grow! AKA Chocolate Making! 😋 🍫
Tasty learning incorporating Maths (ratio), Science (changing states of matter, nutrition), and DT (food technology) , to name a few! 🌱✅️
Did you know that we offer phonics and early years literacy sessions at Grow?
Our nurturing approach is perfect for supporting younger children who find phonics and early reading or writing particularly challenging...
and those big cushions really are as comfy as they look!🧸📖✏️
The secret is finally out!
We would like to formally announce that OFSTED have found that Grow Independent School is likely to meet the requirements to be an independent school, and subsequently will be recommending to the DFE that we be allowed to open as such 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Absolutely over the moon, and we are so proud that we will now be able to use our unique approach to support students through full time education.
Here starts the new adventure! 🌏🌱📖
We have a new team member!
This is Natalie.
Natalie is our new science specialist. Her background is in Forensics, Archaeology and Anthropology and she has a MSc in Forensic Anthropology. She particularly enjoys teaching Human Biology but has experience in teaching all three Sciences to GCSE level. 🧬🧪
After finishing university, she became a Science Technician before starting her teaching journey in 2020 during the pandemic. She has experience in teaching students between 11-16 (KS3/KS4) and in 1-2-1 tutoring both online and in-person.
She currently works full time at local secondary school where she enjoys planning practicals, teaching and planning STEM lessons and making Science fun and engaging! Natalie says, "I enjoy adaptive learning, making sure each student is able to achieve in the classroom."
In her spare time, her two dogs Patch and Layla keep her busy with long walks! She also enjoys travelling and reading. 📖
We have a new fluffy little student 🐶
How adorable is Joey! 🥰❤️
This is Sarah.
Sarah has 21 years' experience of teaching. She is primary trained but has had success in teaching GCSE Maths and English, as well as Functional Maths. She also taught abroad in an International School in Ibiza. 🇪🇸
In addition to her teaching qualification, she also has qualifications in TEFL, TESOL, Understanding Mental Health Issues in Children and Young Adults and Counselling.
Her achievements outside of the classroom are just as impressive; she walked over 1000 miles on two pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela, once from France over the Pyrenees, and from Portugal. 🏔 She also worked in Malaysia with endangered animals, she even has a handwritten letter from David Attenborough! 🐅
Her hobbies include yoga and meditation, solo travel adventures, dance (she's a qualified Zumba teacher), reading, music and art. 🎨

Wishing all of our year 11 leavers the very best of luck with their results today! 🤞🤞🤞

MEET OUR TEAM!
This is Nicola.
Nicola has an incredible 30 years' experience of teaching. She taught in Gran Canaria for many years and is therefore our go-to tutor for Spanish tips! 🇪🇸
She specialises in teaching Primary-aged students, however she has recently developed her skill set even further by becoming a qualified beautician. Nicola took some of our secondary students through a short health and beauty course this year which they absolutely loved!
Her nurturing, calm and supportive teaching style instantly makes students feel at ease. She has a special knack for getting the very best out of even the most reluctant students! 🫶
Nicola is a self-confessed cosmetics addict! In her spare time, she enjoys eating out and shopping (for make-up, mostly). 💄
MEET THE TEAM!
This is Becca.
Becca started teaching the violin before she trained as a teacher. She particularly enjoys teaching maths, science and computing whilst supporting each student’s emotional development. 🎻🧬🧮
She has an interest in how the brain works and enjoys tailoring lessons based on students' individual interests - whilst getting them to where they need to be!
Becca teaches across both of our centres, and she's especially skilled at supporting students to pass the tricky 11+ tests in a way that is fun and engaging.
In her spare time, Becca enjoys walking her dog Nora and travelling in her campervan. 🚚
‘Why is this all so hard?’
Transitions are hard for lots of children (and adults). Typically what parents do when a transition isn’t going smoothly is add pressure. They add demands in the hope that this will get the child to transition more quickly, when in fact what happens is the whole transition becomes impossible.
Here are a few low demand ideas for making transitions easier. The left hand side is common parenting tactics, the right hand side are low demand alternatives.
Looking for more low demand ideas? Join Missing The Mark and I at our next Art of Low Demand Parenting webinar on August 24th. Yes it's recorded.

This is Liz.
Liz’s background in drama has developed her regard for a spirit of adventure and a sense of fun as key ingredients within the classroom. 🤩
The core belief which underpins her teaching practice is that when children feel happy, safe, and secure in their environment , they thrive! 🌱🌳
Liz works mainly at our Pendle centre, she enjoys teaching a range of ages but her passion is English Literature. 📖📚
In her spare time, Liz is involved with musical theatre and enjoys reading, yoga and camping – it is a desire of hers to climb every mountain in the UK! ⛰
We thought the summer holidays would be a great time to introduce our fabulous team of tutors.
Look out for posts over the coming weeks celebrating this beautiful bunch 😄
(They will all be thrilled, all big fans of the spotlight 😉)
Today was AWESOME. ❤️🦴🪨⛰️
The summer holidays are such an important time for relaxing and enjoying the (potentially) good weather.
However, it can be a long time for students to be out of their patterns of academic development.
We are open throughout the holidays for lessons, for all those students who want to keep the cogs turning before the next academic year.
All delivered in our gloriously ‘Grow’ way, always.
🌱🌼🌸📚✏️🧮
We got most of the team together in one place today- a rare occurrence!
Which of our teacher-props do you like the most? 🤔 📖 🐶 🖊️ ⏰
