Hi everyone,
Slightly random one today!
We’re currently recruiting for an experienced Bar Manager for a local and thriving sports club in East Herts. Renowned as a bustling and successful sports venue both on and off the field, while a humble place by nature, this is an environment that has produced professional sportspeople who are now at the highest level.
A great opportunity to take ownership and leadership or the venue in both practical and strategic senses, they’re looking for someone to come in for 25 hours a week, which will involve weekends and evenings, paying really competitively up to £30k plus benefits!
Past hospitality experience is a must as this is a busy bar, especially on match days! The right type of person here is someone who’s willing to work hard, build relationships and an interest in sports is definitely beneficial whilst not a necessity.
If this sounds like something that may be of interest, we’d love to hear from you, either via social media or via an email to [email protected]
What’s “Red Flag Interview Prep”?
In short, it be of the most useful things you can do in advance of meeting someone for an interview.
We’ve coined the phrase in our delivery of advice to job seekers over the years, because most interview prep sees someone thinking about what their interviewer WILL like about them.
Flip that on its head for a moment, because it should be a given,
And think about what they MIGHT NOT like about you?
What might that have as a preconceived idea because of your CV?
And therefore, what could you say that might dispel that preconception, whether they question it or not?
For example, the fact you’ve had 5 jobs in 5 years (whether they’re FTCs or not), might put some people off,
So head it off yourself, talk about why that’s been beneficial for you, why it happened before even being asked about it.
No one is perfect for a job, ever.
So yes, think about what makes you right for a role In your prep,
But don’t ignore the bits that might make you wrong (in reality or perceptive terms) - how can you provide examples or evidence to overcome those things?
That combination of prep makes you more powerful without a doubt!
A simple message that every employee in this country today should read:
Life is hard. Families are hard. Relationships are hard.
(Because most of the best things in life are hard in some way)
But on World Mental Health Day this year today, when the above are all things that we cherish and value (rightly) above all else,
Don’t let a toxic role, or work environment make everything harder.
It’s so destructive, and makes life, families and relationships EVEN harder,
I’ve been there. It’s really rough.
You do not have to settle. You do not have to suffer in such environments, because of all of the key elements of our lives,
employment and work environments are something we all have ultimate control over.
Make a change, take control and of all of the things we find hard, don’t let it be something you could leave behind you quite easily.
There jobs out there right now. Good jobs.
With good people, good bosses and good cultures.
And never let anyone tell you otherwise.
Strange idea, or actually a brilliant one??
Should businesses operate a “nap policy” during the working day?
For anyone like myself who happens to have two young children who seem incapable of getting through the night fully, functioning normally for a whole working day can be tough!!
So at that point, how valuable could some form of policy that allowed an hrs nap during the day be for employees??
Too random, or absolute genius as a benefit/engagement tool?
What do you think?
Could you nap on the job?

The benefits of a lunchtime stroll.
I used to swear by it but recently have got into bad habits, mainly because working solidly through tends to help me get hom at a reasonable hour to see the family!
But it’s so powerful to reset and not just sit at a desk all day staring at your screen.
And with an office location like this, in Ware, Hertfordshire, you can’t help but benefit.
And before the glut of “where’s ware” jokes, just look it up, it’s Hertfords slightly more mature, sleepy, independent neighbour.
Yes, we’re based here and always have been, but increasingly now our footprint stretches way beyond this small town.
And while we’re at our strongest in Herts, London, Beds, Bucks and Essex, there are preciously few parts of the UK we now haven’t successfully recruited within.
The world is remotely connected now.
Our network builds after nearly a combined century of years of experience are huge and our reach is therefore massive. So don’t buy the “we must go to a local recruiter” story.
Buy the, “we must go to the very best in class recruiter” story.
And pick up the phone to us, so I can tell you how stunning the river Lea is on a sunny day, or solve your recruiting challenges.
Wherever you are
HR, Finance & Accountancy, general office. It’s what we do.
Happy anniversary Ryan Osborne !
Most entry level recruiters don’t last 12 minutes in this delightful industry, but this guys is 12months as of today!
James and I are immensely proud of the consultant you already are - way ahead of your years and experience in terms of relationship building and your sense of the right ‘fit’ for both candidates and businesses is remarkable so early on.
A box of perroni is hardly a Rolex or a weekend in vegas but I can’t remember the last gesture we made which was so gleefully received.
To the wider world, this guy is going far. There aren’t many recruiters on this planet (sad but true) who are capable of truly being themselves, while consulting, selling, and finding solutions for businesses and candidates alike.
He’s got it already, so if you’re recruiting or seeking a role in Administrative/secretarial/ marketing or general office vacancies - he should be your first call!!
Are you looking for an HR role in Herts/Essex??
Just a taster of some live roles we’re working on right now!
**How to get more detail and results into your CV in one simple exercise**
Rope your partner in, a friend, a child even….anyone for that matter.
Imagine you’re in an interview.
Place your phone on the table and record the conversation.
Get them to ask you what you do on a day to day basis in your current role?
Answer the question.
Next, get them to ask you what your biggest achievements, results have been within the role.
Listen to the recording.
Get it in your CV!!
This can work for so many elements of CV writing to add detail, hone it for a results led CV and so much more.
It can also work for interview practice, listening to yourself can help you improve your answers no end.
So simple, so effective!
Or feel free to reach out for any other advice?
Does a job title really matter??
We would say, “yes and no”!
When searching through CVs, experienced recruiters and line managers will look closely at duties and responsibilities, rather than just a job title - as sometimes, titles can be hugely misleading.
The same then in return, should be said for job seeking candidates?
Why is a title so important to you, when it’s the day to duties, position in the business and general culture that should be driving your decision.
That said, there are traditional industry sectors whereby titles can still be king, so if in doubt, get some advice!!
“How do I sell myself better in interviews”?
An oldie, but a goldie.
In 20 years this is easily the biggest pain I’ve helped jobseekers to solve.
Barely a day goes by without a candidate asking about the above.
So, hope it helps!!
NEW HR ROLE!!!
Absolute cracker of a mid level opportunity in central Bedfordshire, close to Bedford
Great partner client of ours so I’m excited to recruit a first of its kind HR role for them!
Seeking a generalist People & Culture/HR advisor with experience of payroll, with the offering in return being an impressive platform to grow in a warm, friendly culture.
£30-35k is the magic number - message us if you’re keen to hear more!
The one simple question to ask yourself to truly understand whether you’re in a bit of a toxic culture and should be on the move?
“Would I want my friends and family to be working here”?
Does it get any more simple than that?
Sometimes it’s about finding very simple thought processes, to get to the most powerful conclusions.
Not in the right place?
Let’s chat.
It's Recruitment - but not as you know it.
I'm talking to you, the experienced Recruiter,
Stuck or stagnant in a business that can't (or won't) provide a genuine opportunity to shine, progress or stand out?
Tired of hearing about endless chances to 'develop a business' that will never genuinely see you rise above middle management?
Or perhaps bored of the voice of an MD who talks about a positive, mature working culture, but can't help but fall back to KPIs and 'type' when times are tougher?
We have a home for you.
Hybrid and flexible working in Recruitment DOES work.
Work/life balance in Recruitment CAN be achieved.
Most importantly, the chance to own your career and development in a way that very few others can offer.
If you're experienced, passionate, ideally based in Hertfordshire, ambitious and can genuinely show that you think differently to the norm too - message me.
We're about ready to explode and if you're ready to be part of that, we're ready to give you that chance.
Some harsh but true Monday realities for all recent Graduates. (And dare we say it…their parents too).
We don’t care what you’ve been told through Uni,
Or throughout your life so far about Uni,
You cannot just walk into a dream, career starting job paying you over the odds cash, just because you’re a graduate.
Sure, it happens, but it’s rare.
And if you haven’t built a good CV already with part time, term or vacation experience…
You better get out and get some quickly.
Being a Graduate still holds value. It can and probably will shape your career in a fashion that sees you evolve and scale the heights quicker than others,
But you must play it well.
You have to be a grafter. A proactive go getter.
And you cannot expect crazy money to begin with just because you have a few letters after your name - you have to earn that!
The working world is all about attitude and application, so forget that “grad” tag,
Get out there and be humble, and it’ll then serve you well down the line!
**Newsflash**
Contrary to popular and international news outlets this week, there’s only one X that you need in your life.
No, it’s not a renamed (I wonder why…) social media platform vying for billions of users in an increasingly competitive market place….sorry Elon, no one cares 😂
It’s just this refreshingly simple, small Recruitment business Stormx Recruitment, who do absolutely nothing worthy of global news media outlets…
But do find great people for great jobs and great jobs for great people.
We’re biased, but isn’t that more powerful and valuable than anything you can do with 280 characters?
Need a Herts, Beds, Bucks, Essex or London recruitment business??
Call us.
Do you apply for jobs with an old CV??
I’m sure we’ve all done it.
You go onto Indeed after a long day at work and fire out loads of applications without ever looking at the version that’s attached?
Get your CVs in order!!
Maybe it’s just an oversight?
Maybe it’s deliberate?
But too often we will look up a candidate on LinkedIn after they’ve applied for a role and they’ve got 2 years of new roles on top of what we can see on their CV??
It baffles us.
Keep it updated and keep it simple.
If you need any advice or even a second opinion on what you already have?
We’d love to help!!

I don’t think people saying nice things about our business will ever get old.

There are some exciting things in the horizon this year so stay tuned!

We're edging ever closer to our monumental challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support!!!
It's all getting a touch nerve-wracking now and starting to dawn on the 3 of us, that c40k of speedy walking, with a set of golf clubs and somewhere in the "region" of 400 swings (depending on who you are...) is a LOT in 1 day.
We know that social media is awash with sponsorship pledges these days, all of which are worthy causes, but if you can find a few extra quid to gee us along, we'd be so so grateful.
Lord knows you're going to get some funny videos/live video content on the day....we'll make it worth your while!!

StormX Swingers Chris Truman, Richard Gates, and James Swift are taking on the Longest Day Golf Challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support. We'll be walking over 20 miles in one day, whilst playing 4 rounds of golf (72 holes). Sponsor StormX Swingers to show your support for them taking on this heroic challenge!
6 years ago, one of my best friends lost his battle with cancer.
He was 35 and had everything ahead of him.
That's all I want to say about that, not because there isn't more to say,
But because it's something so many of you will relate to, with family, with friends and loved ones in general - & we all walk our own path in dealing with & understanding it.
We had planned on running this event in 2020 and had to cancel.
Like so many others, COVID stopped us from raising a bean for charities we really believe in.
Not this year.
Imagine walking 40km in a day. Swinging a golf club c360 times. In weather you can't fix to be nice.
Can you?
Starting at 5am, probably finishing c9pm.
Many would call Golf 'a lovely walk ruined'....by the end of July 1st 2021 I may well agree; it's going to be quite a day.
This year, nothing is going to stop us from getting out there for Macmillan Cancer Support and raising some really important cash for those who need it.
We will document everything, Facebook lives, Vlogs throughout the day,
But please support us if you can, in raising something super special to teach COVID to never get in the way again!!!
