When is the Right Time to Consider a Care Home?
Making the decision to move into a residential or nursing home can be tough. Knowing when it's the right moment to start looking for a care home can be a challenge, but taking the step at the right time ensures you and your loved ones have the support you need, when you need it most.
Signs it may be time to consider a care home:
- You're feeling unsafe or uneasy living alone.
- Your current home no longer fits your needs, whether it's stairs that are too steep or heating that's not quite right.
- Dealing with dementia is becoming more confusing and distressing.
- Health issues mean you need constant supervision.
- Having regular company could really lift your spirits, as loneliness can affect your well-being.
- Keeping up with hygiene and nutrition has become challenging. While home care can help, a care home might offer specialized support.
- Your specific care needs are hard to manage at home.
- If your caregiver is feeling overwhelmed and struggling to provide the support you need, moving to a care home could be a positive change.
At Broad Oak Manor, we're dedicated to making this transition as smooth as possible for you. Reach out to us today and discover how we can support you every step of the way. We look forward to hearing from you!

At Broad Oak, we have our very own Chair Exercise Instructor. We run regular classes throughout the month for our residents.
It's pretty amazing how much regular exercise can do for you. Not only does it improve your cardiovascular health, increase bone density, and boost your balance and mobility, but it also does wonders for your mood. Exercise has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, and it even enhances cognitive function. So, it's not just about looking good; it's about feeling great too!
If you would like even more benefits and examples of good exercise it is available at: https://www.nia.nih.gov/health/exercise-and-physical-activity/real-life-benefits-exercise-and-physical-activity.
Thank you so much to everyone at the "They Matter" group. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed your visit, and we are deeply grateful for the wonderful activity mats you generously gifted us.
The History Behind Broad Oak Manor Nursing Home
Built-in 1742, Broad Oak Manor originally served as the home farm for the nearby Goldings Estate. In 1926, it transitioned into a private manor house, passing through the hands of various owners, including the Barclay family. Renowned architects Sir Edwin Lutyens and Harry Stuart Goodhart-Rendel made several significant improvements to the property.
During World War II, Broad Oak Manor provided temporary offices for a firm of accountants whose premises had been bombed.
In 1986, the manor was converted into what we now know as Broad Oak Manor Nursing Home and for the past 38 years, we have been dedicated to providing care and compassion to numerous residents and their families.
We invite you to share your own stories and experiences with our lovely Broad Oak Manor.

๐ป Gardening Club ๐ป
Today, our residents got their hands dirty and planted their very own sunflowers! ๐ป
Did you know?
Sunflowers track the sun ๐ - In a behaviour known as heliotropism, young sunflowers face east in the morning and then follow the sun as the earth moves during the day.
They're great for the environment ๐ฑ - Sunflowers are not only beautiful but also great for the environment. They can help clean up contaminated soil by absorbing toxins like lead, arsenic, and uranium.
They're very thirsty! ๐ง - Sunflowers need a lot of water to grow. They can drink up to 1.5 litres of water per day!
We can't wait to see our sunflowers grow and brighten up our garden! Stay tuned for more updates from the Gardening Club. ๐ปโจ
๐ It's Mental Health Awareness Week! ๐

Meet Lovely Yogi, our weekly visitor to Broad Oak Manor.
Did you know that animal-assisted therapy has been proven to significantly enhance mental and physical well-being?
Interacting with animals triggers the release of endorphins, oxytocin, prolactin, and dopamine, inducing relaxation and reducing anxiety and loneliness. This therapy also lowers blood pressure, improves cardiovascular health, reduces medication dependency, and alleviates pain.
This afternoon, the residents immersed themselves in the therapeutic power of art, creating stunning paintings ๐จ.
