Here's a Hymer motorhome we have had in recently.

This job gives a good example of the great work we do, battling insurance companies and helping customers make the best of a bad situation.

The van was damaged due to leaving the awning out in a storm, causing damage to the bodywork. The insurance company decided to write the van off due to it not being a straightforward repair. After all, there is only so much you can do from behind a desk!

After some back and forth, the customer got a lump sum pay out and kept the vehicle. We then repaired the bodywork damage, replaced the massive 4 meter awning and added additional framework to avoid the same issue in future.

We also replaced the standard 2nd row seat box with a heavy-duty frame seat fitted with 3 point seatbelts. Repaired the wooden floor and made better mounts.

The van is now off to Italy and the customer still has a large portion of the settlement remaining.

Colour Matching- how does it work?

The paint code tells you what to order doesn't it?

If only it was that easy! Firstly we have to identify what colour is on the panel. We can use the colour code only if it is the original paint. If the panel has been repaired previously, there may be a slight difference in colour. This is usually due to mixing small quantities of paint, mixing scheme quality and human error.

We use a spectrometer to take a measurement and identify the correct paint.

The next step if to find a shade that matches the panel, as close as possible. Shade variations are mainly caused by UV in sun light fading the pigment. They can also be due to the static in the plastic panles effecting the way the metallic paint lies. We have a full stock of colour chips containing various shades to account for these factors.

We use a special light to examine samples, this allows us to match both overcast and direct sunlight conditions, giving us the beat chance of spotting variations.

Finally, we mix our own paint on site. We produce a sample using a spray-out card, to make sure there was no errors during the mixing process. This also allows us to judge transparency of the paint and, on a 3 stage pearl, we can work how wany coats of each stage will produce the correct effect.

All of this preparation is absolutely essential to retain our high standard of work, and of course it has a missive impact on our efficiency.
We still recommend blending into the adjacent panles to ensure a truly perfect repair, but this isn't always possible.

Epoxy Enamel Coating...

What is it and how does it compare to conventional powder coating?

How can we offer a PRICE MATCH on powder coating?

This is a MASSIVE shake up in the world of coatings!
The biggest differences are, ADHESION, DURABILITY and VERSATILITY.

In the epoxy enamel process, a 2 part epoxy resin based coating is applied to the bare metal of a warm item (20 degrees or so.) As the coating cures, it shrinks and really bites into the surface. This creates a THERMO-SET coating (meaning it wont change shape or peel off if it gets hot again) It also has chemical adhesion promoters in built.

In fact almost all vehicle manufacturers use an epoxy primer, renowned for its reliability, as the foundation to there paint warranties.

Powder coating is the process of spraying plastic powder at a part, then heating the part to around 200 degrees to melt it. There is no chemical adhesion, so the coating will peel off eventually.

The epoxy resin is unbeatable as far as durability is concerned. Once the chemical reaction takes place, it is irreversible and is well and truly stuck to the object. The epoxy coating is only around 50% of the thickness of powder coating, saving waight and meterial cost.

Many industrial buildings use an epoxy floor paint to deal with the various traffic they come into contact with.

The last major difference is versatility. Heating a part up to 200 degrees or so is incredibly energy intensive. Not to mention, at that temperature anything made from a thinner gauge material will start to warp out of shape. Larger parts, such as gates or railings, need to be done in massive industrial ovens, again adding to the costs (and difficulty finding somewhere to carry out the work)

We can epoxy enamel coat any metal parts, in any solid colour. We can also offer metallic or pearlescent topcoats to satisfy your needs. We have large booths that can cater to a variety of purposes.

COST- although the epoxy enamel is a dearer product due to its quality, the reduced energy consumption and overall amount of material used means its cost around the same to coat the part. In fact we're happy to to offer a price match on any genuine like for like job!
