Gaugamela Design Studio
We are a small niche design business specialising in unusual 2D and 3D projects for small businesses and individuals.
Gaugamela Design Studios (GDS) features the 2D and 3D skills of designer Chris Atkin. Chris works in a wide range of materials and media and can produce both freehand or PC/Mac based outcomes.
I recently did a talk at Georgie’s school about four of my relatives’ personal experiences during WW2. It was very well received and this has galvanised me to do more research on my extended family.
The four people I have researched so far are my uncles Douggie Inch and Norman Knight (Anne’s husband); my father-in-law Charles (Suzie’s dad) and my mum.
This is a call out to all my wider family all over the world for information and suggestions of who to add. If you are related to me or Suzie in any way, I’d love to hear from you. I never gathered enough of the wealth of resources that were at my fingertips when I was younger. Now I feel a pressing need to tell the story of our greatest generation, especially in these troubled times with fascism raising its ugly head once again. I need you all to help me warn our children and grandchildren, please.

I don’t think I need to add anything to this:

Teachers cannot teach effectively without the great support we all get from Teaching Assistants and all the other non-teaching staff in our schools. Academies have allowed harsh marketisation of education. The result is that management and leadership get bloated with teachers who are moved out of the classroom and paid more and more for less and less. Meanwhile, everything else must be accomplished with fewer resources, no pay rises and impossible targets year on year.
Teaching assistants quitting schools for supermarkets because of ‘joke’ wages Headteachers fear impact on children of unfilled vacancies as support staff say rising bills force them to leave jobs in education
So… I didn’t grow hair, but my middle granddaughter fell asleep while she was riding on my shoulders.
A ceramic plate and cup, both slip cast. Black and red glazes with a clear glaze over all.
WIP. These are wire armatures for trees. The big one is 300mm high.

The figure is approximately 85mm, apex to base.
HMS Ark Royal. The brown one is from Thingyverse. The grey one in the foreground is my conversion to add detail. I’m not finished yet, but I think it’s looking better already.
More prints from my resin printer. These are some of the main ships in the hunt for Bismarck after she sank the hood. The Royal Navy mercilessly hunted down the Bismarck. It was a matter of major military significance. If Bismarck has actually managed to get into the convoy lifeline, Britain would have suffered immeasurably.
“The Mighty Hood”. British Admiral class battle cruiser. HMS Hood was the largest warship in the world for twenty years between the two world wars. Fast, heavily armed (8x15” guns) and quite well armoured. Unfortunately, because she was such a beautifully imposing flagship, she never underwent a refit before the Second World War. When the Bismarck made a run for the North Atlantic convoy lanes as a commerce raider, Hood was sent to intercept her. On 24th of May 1941, Hood and her consort, the battleship Prince of Wales caught up with Bismarck and her consort Prinz Eugen. Early in the engagement a 15” she’ll from Bismarck tore through Hood’s thin deck armour and ignited a magazine. The resulting catastrophe saw Hood sink rapidly and the loss of all hands except three young men. This model was printed from a Thingyverse file on my 3D printer. More to come!

Some new offerings from my studio. Three new clock designs, and some experiments with leather hard clay prior to glazing and firing.
And a few other pieces…
It’s supposed to rain on Sunday when we have the Artisan Fair. Hopefully it won’t put too many people off.
I quite like that the cutting leaves the impression of sand dunes.
