The Chairman’s role is an Honorary position that is required along with others as a commitment to DOSCA’s constitution.
The role would be particularly suitable (although not strictly necessary) to someone who is retired or coming to that stage of their life, is community minded and has good basic management and leadership skills.
Primary Objective: To serve as overall director of the Downley Community Centre, giving strategic direction to the Management team, chairing regular meetings, leading on major projects and giving a long term perspective to DOSCA’s direction and purpose.
Specific Objectives:
a) To support and encourage the Honorary Treasurer and help with financial returns required by law;
b) To support and encourage the bookings manager advising on significant issues and major customers;
c) To represent the Downley Community Centre in the village and district as required

Good morning!
The Downley Old School Community Association (DOSCA) who run and look after the Community Centre pride themselves in giving back to the local area and are delighted to announce that they have made 2 donations recently to local Charities.

At the end of the class, you'll stop to have a tea and chat, providing a great opportunity for mums to meet other mums in the local area.
To attend, mums have to have had their 6 weeks GP check/sign off and it goes without saying that these classes are of course mum and baby friendly!!

We are always keen to help community organisations and clubs, so please don't hesitate to apply for a grant, in the first instance contact us on [email protected]. The committee will assess proposals for all projects on a monthly basis.
Fancy some cake and coffee (or tea) this morning?
Our MacMillan coffee morning is taking place at the centre today between 10am and 12noon.
Lots of cakes, friendly faces and conversation available…. All whilst raising money for a wonderful charity.
We hope you can join us.
We are so excited to show off our newly restored floor in the Beech room!
Thank you to our hirers for being so patient with us this week, we very much appreciate your understanding when we asked to cancel or move your classes to other rooms but we hope you love the results as much as us.
Not only did Fantastiklean restore the floor but they also organised a full deep clean of the entire centre including windows inside and outside (and they replaced some acoustic ceiling tiles for us too)
We thank them very very much for their hard work, extremely long hours and understanding that we needed this detailed job turned around on a quick schedule during half term!
We would highly recommend their services!
We are so excited to show off the results too!
It's great to see our baby & toddler group so busy each week! If you'd like more information and to be kept in the loop, please follow MONDAY MINIS! There's no need to book, just turn up and play!
Do you enjoy cycling or is it something that you have wanted to try but being in an area that is surrounded by challenging hills is daunting?
Then look no further than our new class……
Forever Cycling - Virtual cycling for the over 50’s from the warm comfort of our beautiful Centre.
The class takes place every Thursday between 1-2pm… please get in touch with Joe to book your spot!
Good evening everyone!
Our lovely voluntary committee are on the hunt… in order to preserve our beautiful lawn, we lay tree trunks at the edge to prevent our hirers from parking on it. We’ve located the trunks (kindly being given to us by Downley Common Preservation Society) but we need a flat bed or low bed trailer to transport them from the edge of the Common to the Community Centre itself.
They have a tractor available to load and unload but are not able to move them along the road to us.
Please if you have one available and some free time, we would be incredibly grateful to you!
No date has been set in stone yet so we can work to availability.
Many thanks in advance!
Thank you to all that attended the DOSCA 20th Anniversary Celebration last week, we hope you enjoyed it as much as the committee did!
Did you know?....... Over the past 20 years, this Victorian school has been transformed into our thriving community centre in the heart of Downley Village that now has over 30 regular hirers a week and 16,000 visitors per year.
Being a non-profit charity, DOSCA has donated over the past 12 years more than £5000 to local clubs and activities without increasing hire rates.
DOSCA’s dedicated voluntary committee hosted a party on Friday 17th February 2023 to recognise and thank those that have been instrumental in establishing the Charity and the development and maintenance of the building and its offerings.
The party welcomed over 50 members of the local area that have all played essential roles within the Centre, from past and present hirers, caretakers to parish councillors.
There was delicious buffet food provided by local caterer Rachels Event Cateringand the Downley Co-op generously donated drinks for the evening.
Guests enjoyed a presentation showing the changing building throughout the years (you can view this below), alongside being able to fondly reminisce with old friends.
The DOSCA committee recognised David Worsdall (Chairman) and Paul Homer (Marketing & Purchasing), who have been active members in the committee for the entire 20 years, having dedicated endless hours to ensure a smooth running of the building that has always had community at the forefront of its purpose.
