We cannot believe it has already been a week since we attended the Annual BMLA Conference in Cardiff.

It was so great to hear and learn from all the Plastic Surgeons, Dermatologists, LPAs and other Laser Therapists.

IPL (intense pulsed light)

What it does: IPL treatment uses intense wavelengths of light to heat the surface enough to stimulate the skin to naturally regenerate while boosting collagen production. Over time, patients are left with a smoother skin tone, healthier complexion, and less visible sun damage.

What is skin Microdermabrasion and how does it work?

Microdermabrasion is a method of mechanical exfoliation aimed at fighting photoaging symptoms such as age spots, fine lines, and wrinkles, improving overall skin quality, as well addressing medical conditions such as acne or other scars.

Viora’s Pristine Medical Diamond Tip Microdermabrasion system uses works in a dual mechanism:

Exfoliation – Produces a superficial ablation to mechanically remove outer layer of epidermis.

Vacuum – stimulating blood flow (oxygen to cells), rebuilding collagen, elastin, waste disposal and encouraging lymphatic activity.

What conditions can be treated with Microdermabrasion?

Jenny Flanagan Laser Aesthetics cares about you being hair free. Some people require electrolysis as well as Laser/IPL treatments.

Regardless of the colour or texture of hair, electrolysis can permanently remove hair growth from any area.

We recommend electrolysis for patients who have white, grey, or red hair that cannot be treated with laser but can obtain equally effective results by using Apilus. This is generally used to treat smaller areas.

Do you have Sun damaged skin?

Repeat sun exposure breaks down internal structures in the skin, bringing on spots, wrinkles, and sagging. As sun exposure occurs over time, it intensifies the natural aging process. Sun damaged skin ages you, there’s no question about that. In many cases, no amount of moisturising or topicals are going to lighten those spots.

Instead of spending money on ineffective home products, here at Jenny Flanagan Laser Aesthetics we use a device called Lumenis M22 to treat the skin. If you are planning to head away, we would like to remind our clients of some key points regarding sun exposure and your treatments.

- Sun exposure should be avoided for 6 weeks before and 6 weeks after your Laser Hair Removal treatments with us.

After tanning, you will have ‘sun induced inflammation.’ This is the redness that you experience in your skin after sun tanning. It is not possible to introduce any more heat to your skin (ie. laser treatments) until this has completely faded.

If you happen to get sun burned, you will have to wait until the skin has completely healed with no redness or peeling before going ahead with laser treatments. This can take 6 weeks or more so protecting your skin with SPF 30+ during your course of laser treatments is essential.

- The treatment area must be keep as cool as possible following your treatments, we recommend keeping your Aloe Vera Gel in the fridge and applying this regularly.

These rules are in place for your personal safety and the safety of your skin.

Performing laser treatments on active tan is extremely dangerous and can result in burns, blisters or hypo/hyperpigmentation to the skin.
