Elvis – Up Close & Personal; the love songs and ballads of Elvis Presley

After a stunning debut show here at The Civic, Holmfirth in 2024, Lee Newsome is back with his amazing Elvis Ballad show “Up Close & Personal”

Lee has been performing his tribute to the King for four years and currently tours the UK in various theatres and clubs. Lee’s simply stunning powerhouse vocals set him apart from every other Elvis tribute act out there. His show is a one man Elvis experience. With suits made by the actual man that made Elvis suits, Lee’s attention to detail is simply second to none.

The show is a jaw dropping experience from start to finish with customised projection visuals and indoor special effects, no other Elvis show comes close to this one.

The Up Close & Personal show is a show that is not being currently performed anywhere. A show which concentrates solely on the love songs & power ballads of the King.

Lee says of his show “It’s truly amazing what Elvis still means to people so many years after his passing. The tears that I see when I perform my show is something magical to behold, to see what this man meant to so many people continues show after show, I just hope I do Elvis’s memory justice in my performance”

Our annual Festival should have been a couple of weeks ago, but we didn't have enough active committee members to organise it. We have an AGM coming up on Wednesday 20 November, 7.15 at Holmfirth Methodist Church ( School Street entrance ). Please come along.

Soul Train Show will soon steam into Holmfirth with their great show featuring no less than six lead vocalists, plus a truly fine feast of your favourite soulful gems.

Harking back to the wonderful days when the dance floor was king, performers deliver a fun presentation of 60s and 70s soul classics. From early soul days of Tamla Motown, Stax and Atlantic records though to disco and beyond as the show brings on the good times.

Featured in a fun feel good production are classic hit songs by – Stevie Wonder, Isley Brothers, Supremes, Gladys Knight, O’Jays, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Ike & Tina Turner, Donna Summer, Candi Staton, Whitney Houston, Billy Ocean, Lionel Richie, Tavares and many more great artists that still keep us singing and dancing.

Back again in 2024! The Ultimate Tribute to Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman.

Including a performance of the Album “Bat Out of Hell” in its entirety as well as songs from other Meat Loaf albums and other artists, penned by musical genius Steinman.

MeatLoud - MeatLoaf Tribute was founded in 2015 by vocalist Andy Plimmer along with the band from The Rocky Horror Experience. They were privileged to secure the awesome talent of Sally Rivers in 2018 to enhance the line up. Meat Loud cover many of the songs from the Meat Loaf Back catalogue as well as some of the Steinman classics by Bonnie Tyler, Celine Dion and Cher. (Cue Sally Rivers)
The second half of the show is a complete performance of the 1977 classic album “Bat Out Of Hell”.

Welcome Fenella back to Holmfirth as M6 Theatre Company present A Tiger's Tale

The Civic, Holmfirth is delighted to be hosting a fantastical production by the award-winning playwright Mike Kenny. Based on the extraordinary story of Fenella, the Holmfirth Tiger, A Tiger's Tale is a high-spirited balancing act of circus, puppetry, live music and song.

From a circus train in South Africa, to a steamboat on the Atlantic Ocean and onward to West Yorkshire, a ramshackle travelling troupe tell us the unbelievable true story of a family of acrobats and their adopted tiger cub.

Join Titch, Ma and Pa on their riotous adventure into a world where ‘all the best stories end with a surprise'.

Le Vendredi Danse present Euro Ceilidh with Scintilla

Le Vendredi Danse present Euro Ceilidh with Calderdale based band Scintilla who love playing French and Scandinavian music and have successfully adapted traditional ceilidh dances to work with European music they love.

Scintilla have also created new dances to complement original music composed by their fabulous guitarist, Mark Almond. All Scintilla’s dances are easy and fun to learn under the expert guidance of caller, Dominic.

No previous experience required.

*January - Aladdin, the Pantomime*

Aladdin is the son of Widow Twanky, who owns a Chinese Laundry. They are very poor... that is until a mysterious stranger, Abanazer, appears on the scene telling of great treasure locked away in a nearby cave. He enlists the help of Aladdin to find the treasure, but things do not go according to plan.

Add into the mix four silly policemen, two evil baddy sidekicks, a beautiful princess and … a camel and another fabulous Turn Again Panto is guaranteed.

A charming romantic comedy play set in 1930s Budapest, this story centres round the tangled love-lives of the staff of Hammerschmidt’s Parfumerie

George Horvath is fired after being wrongly suspected of having an affair, causing him to miss his opportunity to meet with the woman he loves, but with whom he has only ever exchanged letters.

Mistaken identity and mix-ups threaten to disrupt the lives of the owner and his employees. Will all be happily resolved?

The play, which has had only two other UK productions, inspired the 1940 film The Shop Around the Corner and the 1998 film You’ve Got Mail, along with the regularly revived, 1963 musical She Loves Me.
This adaptation by the nephew of the original playwright, Miklos Laszlo, will leave audiences smiling as they watch the characters contend with the disruptions.

Another Agatha Christie classic play is coming to Holmfirth. An announcement in the local paper states the time and place when a murder is to occur in Miss Blacklock's Victorian house. The victim is not one of the house's several occupants, but an unexpected and unknown visitor.

What follows is a classic Christie puzzle of mixed motives, concealed identities, a second death and a determined inspector grimly following the case's twists and turns.

Fortunately, Miss Marple is on hand to provide the solution – at some risk to herself – in a dramatic final confrontation.

Holme Valley Parish Council are holding a Big Community Celebration! event on Saturday November 9th. Come along between 10am and 4pm to find out what’s going on for everyone in the Valley and meet the people and community organisations that make the Holme Valley special.

Johnny Cash Revisited

Johnny Cash Revisited is a two-hour, live concert performance set between 1969 and 1971 and based on the hugely popular “Johnny Cash Show” Television series. During this period, Cash was at the height of his career in the USA and around the world, following the success of his legendary, At Folsom Prison and San Quentin albums.

The show features flashbacks to the very beginning of Cash’s career at Sun Records in Memphis and includes his greatest hits from the 1950’s on through the decades with hits such as, Folsom Prison Blues, I Walk The Line, Big River, Ring of Fire, A Boy Named Sue, One Piece At A Time, Daddy Sang Bass, A Thing Called Love, Ghost Riders In The Sky, Without Love, and duets, Jackson and It Ain’t Me Babe, with June Carter, a legend in her own right and member of the pioneering “Carter Family”.

Doors open at 6.30pm, this is a fully seated event and seats are on a first come first served basis. With support from Under The Ivy from 7.00pm, main show starts 7.45pm. Bar available throughout the evening.

Tickets cost £21.50 and are available in person or over the phone during office hours (Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 2.30pm) with no commission payable or online via the ticket link below (with a commission charge).
