World Osteopathic Healthcare Week (WOHW) 15th - 21st April 2024.
As it is WOHW, we decided it was a good time to also celebrate the fact that Osteopathy is 150 years old this year. So what are the origins of Osteopathy?
Osteopathy was invented in 1874 by Andrew Taylor Still, an American physician and surgeon.
At the time that A.T. Still was practising medicine, unsanitary surgical practises would often result in more deaths than cures, and commonly prescribed medications included arsenic, whiskey and o***m. Dr Still became increasingly dissatisfied with what he saw as the excessive and often harmful interventions endorsed by orthodox medicine so in 1864, he set out to reform conventional medicine and establish a practice that did not so readily resort to drugs, purgatives and other invasive therapies of the time.
Andrew Taylor Still was one of the first doctors to promote the idea of preventative medicine and the philosophy that physicians should focus on treating the disease rather than just the symptoms.
So if you would like a more holistic approach to your aches and pains, give our friendly knowledgeable reception team a ring to see what we can do to help.

Running a clinic is not just about chatting to the patients.
It's having to do all the practical things too, like keeping it s***k and span.
Thanks for your help, Daphne!
So, an update on how the Surrey 3 Peaks challenge went.
We are very pleased to say that all 8 of our team finished the challenge, but we had a few broken bodies and one pair of bloody feet.
Thank goodness we had plenty of practitioners on hand to provide the Osteopathic and Massage treatments, to get everyone back in running order 😀
We also wanted to thank all our patients, friends and Company's who made donations, for their support towards our fundraising for Tiana-Leigh Lung Foundation.
We will ensure they get the equipment and other vital assistance they need at this present time.
Our team doing the Surrey Three Peaks challenge today.
GOOD LUCK!
We would like to wish our team of 8 participating in the Surrey Three Peaks challenge on Saturday, the best of luck!
