Itโs coming to the end of Summer term and many parents will soon be looking at secondary provision for their children.

Visual timetables are extremely helpful in supporting language and communication skills. ๐๐ผ In line with our previous post on visuals, here are a few benefits of visual timetables:
-They allow children to understand he sequence of activities
-Provides structure for the child to help keep things predictable
-Is used as a visual reminder
-Can help and support independence with daily routines
-Can support smoother transitions
Explaining DLD to others can sometimes be tricky. And that's where this handy visual comes in. It shows all of the areas of language that DLD may impact upon. But don't forget DLD will vary from person to person.
An interactive version of this bubble with support strategies can be found clicking the link below or searching 'DLD bubble toolkit.'

Poor vocabulary knowledge and understanding has a wider impact than we might think ๐ง
The average person may think that mathematics is about addition, subtraction and times tables, without understanding that it actually involves high levels of abstract vocabulary.
As the Department for Education (DfE, England) found, those with poor spoken language skills (including vocabulary) are at great risk in literacy but even greater risk in maths ๐งฎ๐ข
(Check out our previous post that includes tips and tricks to teach vocabulary)
With vocabulary being an essential skill for learning, comprehension, writing, and social interaction, here are some fun ways to promote vocabulary and incorporate it into your daily routine ๐ฅณ๐๐ผ๐
