⭐ Meet the team ⭐
Anthony Horsfall is one of our trustees.
Anthony joined Mencap as a care assistant in August 1992. Since then he worked in almost every department and at many different levels in the organisation from support worker to manager.
Sadly in 2006, Anthony had to take early retirement on ill-health grounds but was quickly invited to join the Board. Anthony jumped at the chance to contribute to the organisation in a different way.
“I am passionate about the rights of people with learning disabilities and want to ensure we enable them to have the best life possible.”

It's Learning Disability Week! 💜
1.5 million people in the UK have a learning disability.
We want people with a learning disability to be seen and recognised for who they are. Research shows that people with a learning disability have had enough of being ignored, mistreated, patronised - and, sometimes, even locked away.

Today is the start of Learning Disability Week 2024!
Learning Disability Week takes place each year during the third week in June. It's a week long awareness raising campaign where we make sure the world hears what life is like if you have a learning disability.
We'll be sharing stories from our friends at Mencap to show the world the incredible things that people with a learning disability achieve, smashing misconceptions about what people can do and shining a light on the stigma many still face every day.
We hope you'll enjoy reading their stories.

We are looking for people to join our board of trustees!
As a local charity with a heritage dating back 75 years our focus has always been, and will continue to be, improving the lives of people with a learning disability.
We are proud to say we have always been led by people with learning disabilities and their families and we still are working together co-producing everything we provide.
Our directors come from many different backgrounds and bring a multitude of different skills to the board. As part of our skills gap analysis and succession planning, we are particularly hopeful for applications from those with finance skills, building and asset management skills, marketing skills, digital/IT skills and or fund raising experience.
Find out more by contacting our chair Linda Wrigley via e-mail [email protected] or call 01484340811.
Here at Mencap in Kirklees we provided a high-quality support service to enable people with additional needs to live more independently.
It can be either in their own flat in a supported living scheme or in a shared house, in their own home or in the community.
Our shared houses are large, detached accommodation where people have their own bedrooms and share the other spaces communally.
Two of our residents, John and Rachel share their experience of our supported living services in our short video.
