Carrie did say it was 'tough'...

Mid-way around the 'Fan Dance', Carrie's eye-sight began to fail. It felt like she was experiencing cataracts and no amount of blinking would clear the cloudiness in her vision. It felt like she had something in her eyes, like a hair or dirt.

Running with limited vision led to a fall which thankfully wasn't serious but reminded Carrie how dangerous ignoring her body could be. She pressed on a little more carefully but her vision remained unchanged.

Part of the essential kit-list was 3 litres of water and Carrie had tabbed / run nearly 17 km without drinking any. When Chris forced her to stop, suspecting dehydration, she was already feeling brutalised.

That water altered everything and it turns out, dehydration can indeed massively impair your vision! Carrie was able to return to her normal eyesight and performance and finish the event as the 11th main age-range woman back. The report below from the SAS staff, shows exactly what we faced that day.

Carrie said she'd never do it again after this experience but actually maybe she will. It taught her alot about what it is to push yourself in the most challenging of conditions and it reminded her of how important it is to listen to the body above all else.

It seems we all got off lightly....
