I've just been spending a bit of time updating the website to include a resources page. This page has links to resources we have developed and made available on Insight Timer and our YouTube channel (with more in planning and development), recommended books, and eventually there will hopefully be some online courses (again in the planning and development stages). It's Friday again (already! How did that happen). A big part of my self care routine is about taking time out to pause and just be present in the here and now.

When I meditate regularly I notice I just feel calmer - not just when I'm actually meditating, but the time in between too. I notice my stress levels are lower, and my tolerance for those things that push my buttons is higher.

I used to have a regular daily meditation practice - but it's definitely slipped recently (or not so recently if I think about it!!). Its come up with a few clients recently, so I'm making a conscious effort to get back on track!

Maybe I need to put together a short introductory course on mindfulness meditation 🤔

For me, Fridays are all about self care. This is me, post (outdoor) swim - one of my favourite ways to refresh and reset ready for the weekend 😊 I love the feel of the cold water against my skin (although we're into double digits now!) and being surrounded by beautiful nature.

I don't just 'use' Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with my clients - I also live my life by it (or at least I try to!).

Clarifying and focusing on my values has often been key to getting me through the days/weeks/months - especially when life is throwing challenges at me (thanks life! 😅)- because they guide me and inspire me to live my best life (whatever that might look like given the circumstances).

Because values have been so important to me (and my clients) I'm currently researching and developing a course for all about connecting to your values and living a more meaningful life. It's going to take a while to pull it together, but watch this space and I'll let you all know when it's live on the app 😊

Did you know that connecting to nature can help you reset your stress response and improve your mood?

I love getting out into nature (for a walk or a swim). Over the Easter break I went on an introduction to foraging course, and have since put some of my new knowledge into practice. I gathered some wood ear mushrooms and wild garlic over the weekend, which today became my lunch with wild garlic pesto and mushrooms on focaccia. It was yum 😋 and what a great way to connect with nature 🌳🌿

I'm really please to now be offering Yoga for women's health and wellbeing - perfect for supporting menstrual health, fertility and the journey through peri-menopause (and beyond).

Here are a couple of offerings coming up for June, focusing on women's health and wellbeing...

The first is the next monthly women's circle, which meets in Marsden on the 1st Sunday of each month. This is a gorgeous opportunity for you to take some time out to relax, move, breath and connect with others ❤️

The second is a weekly yoga session focused on women's health, with relaxation, movement and breath to support menstrual health, fertility, and (peri)meopause ❤️

Starting in on Tuesday November 8th (6-7:15pm) in Marsden....

This will be a small group course, running over 6 weeks, aimed at children aged 10-12 years old who are struggling with stress, mild to moderate anxiety and/or low mood.

The course will be delivered by Dr Ali Downes, Clinical Psychologist and Children's Yoga Therapist, and will combine tools from psychological approaches and yoga therapy. Young people will be supported to understand their emotions better and to develop tools to support their wellbeing.
