Testing some existing data cabling for a customer. The cable had never been connected up properly when the house was built. Once found, one cable was identified as being damaged, and the second luckily tested as fine! 3rd picture shows the on site supervisor making sure I'm working hard.

Bit of LED strip fitment to a customers roof lanterns in their orangey and their gym using a plaster coving profile, and some aluminium track to diffuse the light. Gives a great ambiance in the evenings when you don’t need to be blinded by your downlighters. 🙃

Insulated inspection mirror is a handy tool to have to make sure cables and busbars have been clamped in the terminals properly in consumer units and other switchgear.

Garden lighting for a customer in Ashtead. Using Astro lighting Trivola LEDs in the oak sleeper walls, and Astro lightings Beam One LEDs in the patio. This was done for a low level lighting solution due to the customer having regular bat visits in the evenings and overnight, and they didn’t want to displace them.

Before, during, after. Another consumer unit change with a larger board to allow for expansion in this customers home for his recent extension.

With this one I decided to fit the Envirograf Enviroburst fire suppression system, as this consumer unit was mounted in the back of a cupboard in the customer kitchen.

Further work in the garden lighting project.

Holes cut for up-lights in the decking. A few extra sculpture lights fitted, and made a start wiring up the ground lights going in the lower seating area.

Garden lighting today.

Making a start on a garden lighting project for a new customer. We have some lights going in the decking, a few ground lights dotted around to highlight a few sculptures, and a few lights in some of the hedging to make the garden look beautiful in the dark. All being integrated into the customers existing Rako lighting system.

More pictures to follow over the next 2 weeks.

End the short week with some second fix. All lights cut out and fitted, sockets second fixed, and some outside lights put up. All now live and ready for the customer long weekend!

Some garden lighting still to do later in the month. But for now, have a great Jubileee weekend everyone!

Before and after -

A fuseboard change. Removed a lot of unnecessary cabling and smaller consumer units, including the old redundant door bell transformer. Whole house is now also surge protected, and each circuit is individually RCD protected with it's own RCBO.

Light fitting refurb.

These 18 year old wall lights look great, but haven’t worked for quite a few years. Some of the lamp holders had rusted out from water ingress and heat from the old halogen lamps that were fitted.

New lamp holders and LED lamps have been fitted, a new transformer, combined with drain holes and a bit of silicone should keep these things going for another 18 years.

Happy Sunday.

More of our with the old…

Customer had a new porch put in and wanted to make a feature of it, so the old coach lantern wall light came down.

In its place 2 up/down lighters were fitted on the oak posts, a new outdoor pendant fitted inside the porch, and a smaller marker fitting for the house name.

*non-electrical post*

Coming to the end of the Newel coach rebuild/rewire now. Customer originally asked me to rewire some of the 240v electrics.

When I arrived it was a bit of a state. Solid core cables used for the domestic wiring. Cut off ends everywhere. When the engine had been removed by another contractor, all the hoses, lines and wiring had just been cut off and not labelled.

I ended up assisting in re-installation of the 12l V8 2 stroke twin charged Detroit Diesel engine, tracing all the wires for the engine to get the sensors working. Fault finding the gearbox as it would only go up and not down.

Also in top of the 240v rewire, I ended up re-doing all the lighting in LED, and adding some additional sockets, some USB charging outlets, new stereo system front and back, and modifying the original 80’s reversing camera to have a modern screen and cam.

Still to come is new TV units, working Wi-Fi, and a few odds and sods to tidy it up a bit.

This month we started her for the first time on her rebuilt engine. It was fantastic to see, and hear after starting work on her almost 2 years ago to the day. Video to follow.

Out with the old, water filled 240v ground uplighters, which were poorly installed by the previous contractor, and in with the new.

Fittings were previously installed with easy points of access for water into the bottom of the fittings, as well as nowhere for the water to drain to as they’d been concreted in!

New fittings were repositioned at the request of the customer, and the new ones installed with appropriate drainage below, then back filled with Wiska Gel to make sure water cannot seep in from below. The fittings were also installed with low voltage LED lamps. These are less temperamental with water ingress should it occur, and safer for the customer with reduced risk of electric shock.

Lights were in addition, wired on their own RCBO to make sure they didn’t take half the house out should a fault occur later down the line.

Whilst I was there, also dressed the brick damage a bit better which the previous contractor attempted to repair, poorly with white silicone!

All in all a good days work, and another happy customer!
