Today we celebrated Purim with all the usual fun. Rabbi Jordan read the Megillah and coordinated a play acted out by our staff. We think you'd agree Mr Branch makes a lovely Queen Esther! The hall was a sea of fancy dress and filled with the sounds of children singing the traditional Purim songs. Mishloach Manot were distributed and a special thanks goes to Delicacy for their kind donation of Hamantaschen which were distributed too. We hope your children had as much fun as we all did! Wishing you all a very happy Purim.

Clore Tikva School Inspiring Writers for the Future

Many of our children took part recently in the BBC 500 Words competition. We are so proud that 8 children got through to the semi-finals with their stories!
We at Clore Tikva are proud of the journey we have taken as a Storytelling School. Teaching writing through storytelling involves processes which are engaging, dynamic and creative. By developing the skills and vocabulary to re tell and reinvent stories, our children become confident communicators and storytellers, both orally and in writing. The results of the BBC 500 Words Competition and current English achievements are a testament to the staff and students of Clore Tikva who embrace this wonderful approach and have an increasing love of the language and joy of storytelling.

We are thrilled to announce that our Year 2 pupil, Yasmin Block from Kita Erez then got through to the finals of the competition.

Her story entitled, Kindness Makes the World a Brighter Place, was chosen out of thousands of entries. On Wednesday 28th February, Yasmin was invited to Buckingham Palace for the final and was joined by lots of celebrities including Lenny Henry, Romesh Ranganathan and Roman Kemp. She even got to shake hands with Her Majesty the Queen Camilla!

Yasmin’s story came in the top 25 out of 44,000 entries!
We are so very proud of Yasmin and congratulate her and all of the semi-finalists for their wonderful achievement.

Head teacher, Margot Buller described Clore Tikva as a creative school with a rich and innovative curriculum. She added, “I am continually impressed by the quality of writing across the school and the confidence and skill with which children approach writing both fiction and non-fiction. We are very proud of all the children who took the time to enter. I am so proud and delighted with Yasmin’s success and know this is just the start of her progress as a writer.”

Natalie Saville, English Lead stated, “I am just so proud of all of the children who entered this fantastic competition. Every day at Clore Tikva, we see the enthusiasm and determination of the children to succeed in English. Yasmin is a wonderful example of how enthusiasm, hard work and determination pays off.”

Clore Tikva School Foundation | Clore Tikva School 01/11/2023

Our School is only 90% government funded, so the Clore Tikva Foundation has to ask parents to make up the shortfall through monthly voluntary contributions. This money is needed now more than ever with the ongoing conflict, as it goes towards security and ensuring our school is made safe for our children.

Being a Jewish Community school is what makes Clore Tikva so special; and without these donations we would be in a difficult financial position that would threaten our Jewish status and the future viability of the school.

Click on the link below for the video to find out why this money is so important to us, and see if you spot your child or recognise familiar face.

All donations are voluntary and will not affect any child's education if they are not made.

אדון עולם ניגון ששרד 18/04/2023

Key Stage 2 staff and children came together today to remember the six million Jews that were murdered in the Holocaust. Through a family in our Clore Tikva community, we learnt about how important music is when remembering.

Mrs Saville told the children about two orphans who came to a synagogue in Elshad, Lithuania, and were asked to sing the melody of the Lord of the World (Adon Olam). These two children later died in the holocaust. One of the worshippers, Moshe Saville (one of our pupil's great grandfathers) taught the music to his children. These children continue to teach their grandchildren.

Listen to the song, make others listen, sing it and share the post in memory of those orphans and the millions of innocent people who perished in the holocaust.

Purim Fun at Clore Tikva Primary School

The whole school, have had the most wonderful day celebrating the festival of Purim. We welcomed Rabbi Lev into our Key Stage 2 assembly who read the Megillah. Key Stage 1 had their very own fashion parade where we saw a huge variety of wonderful costumes including bananas, wizards, superheroes and even John Lennon! The children took part in games, sang songs and made mishloach manot to share with eachother. Some children also got to make their very own hamantaschen with Louise Dorling, our Chair of Governors. A big thank you to Delicacy who kindly donated hamantaschen to all of the children and staff!

A.I.M High writing workshop with Seth Burkett

Children from Years 5 and 6 had the opportunity to go to Glade Primary school for a biography-writing workshop with Seth Burkett, an English writer and futsal player and former professional footballer.

Our children were introduced to the different types of biography. Together, the group came up with interesting points that a biography should cover. After discussing some examples, tools to quickly draw readers' attention and add suspense were shared. Following this, the children started to write some amazing autobiographies about their own lives.

Next up, children worked in pairs to ghost write the first chapter of each other's autobiographies. They interviewed each other, coming up with interesting questions to ensure interesting answers. Writers were encouraged to listen carefully to the way their partner spoke, noticing any slang or favourite words they heard so that they can expertly catch their subject's voice.

The final part of the workshop asked the children to come up with a biography of Usain Bolt. They watched a clip from when Usain Bolt won the 100m London 2012 Olympics and had to describe that special moment in their biographies.

The children set such a wonderful example and represented Clore Tikva in such a positive way. In fact, the other schools that attended were blown away by our enthusiasm, English skills and knowledge!

Mitzvah Day 2022

A group of Key Stage 2 children accompanied Mrs Bendon to present our Mitzvah Tree laden with leaves of messages from our pupils to the members of RJCC at Woodford Forest Shul. They in turn presented us with their tree. This intergenerational project will involve both us here in school and at the centre reading a leaf a week, bringing motivational and heart-warming messages from our children to the elderly members of RJCC and vice versa.
