Laurel and conifer hedge trimmed up a few weeks ago ready for the sun ☀️ sunshine ☀️
We are looking forward a wonderful British Summer this year ⌚ it's been long due for many we can imagine 😁 🌺 🌲 🌴 ☀️🌞
If you remember a few months back we had a catastrophic failure of a large mature beech tree with what I believed to be a tawny owls nest 🦉
This is one of our regular customers property's and it was a pleasure to wander back into the woods and find what appeared to be last years baby tawny owl, still having some of its fluffy baby feathers on its tummy.
This made my day 😁🤗
I also saw a larger tawny owl fly off as I walked under the tree , I'm hoping the stump I left will provide them with a nice shelter still.
surgeon damage
Birch stump removed putting our new stein guards to work.
A transformation on this corner street job with this sycamore removal combined with a privet hedge reduction to 5 feet in height, trimming back the overhang on the sides of the pavement.
This large Beech tree had a limb failure due to rot cavity holding a tawney owls nest inside, the limb had fallen into another large Beech within the same wooded section.
only a couple of days later the other 60 ft of the tree snapped in the secondary storm due to a hidden cavity above the previous which was 3 times the size and had an old bees nest inside.
We set to work and tidied up the fallen tree and then climbed the other beech tree to remove the caught up limb failure.
We persuaded the customer to leave the damaged trunk to provide a nice habitat pile for animals and insects to thrive in.
We had a series of larger trees removals through October November, this beech was removed due to a large cavity in the centre of the stem with the remains of a large old unused beehive.
After a climbed inspection we chose to remove it due to a low amount of holding wood remaining and the high risks for incoming storms.
Unfortunately storm Henk did bring down one of these 3 great beech trees at this property.
The tree was also holding a large cavity this time from a tawney owls nest we will be returning to tidy up the other beech tree this January and I will be sure to post the nest.
Unfortunately I didn't get any completed shots of this lime tree, from a few months ago.
An expensive patio underneath The Pink crash mats were used to prevent damage dismantling in smaller pieces and lowering with ropes when needed.
The very large stump was removed a few days later taking Barry a whole day to remove!
Cherry tree reduction we did in October finished the evening with a lovely sunset. 🌞
Have a peek at one of our annual trimming jobs we did this September, satisfying nice edges 😁

Our last chipper Terry who is a well looked after old timberWolf 150 will be up for sale and will hopefully provide a great start for a new business like it did for us.
My apologies for the reduced presence being a small business owner who still works the tools when it gets busy I have to focus my time where I deem it most important and due to this I intentionally reduced my social media, as we finish this year I will look to keep you more informed on what we are doing again.
Stay warm and all the best wishes over this festive period James 😁
Thankyou! To everyone who has chosen and supported us here at Commando Climbers.
This post is earlier than I anticipated because I'm pleased to announce we are booked up until November and the phone is still ringing 😄
I would just like to make you aware that I am already looking into taking on more staff and setting up a second team to increase our workflow next year.
This is where it all started, saving up to get my first Van and the first tree we worked on as a business.
We are coming up to 3 years running as a business and each year our workflow has increased and more importantly you our wonderful customers have kept returning.
Thankyou

This Large TPO Ash tree unfortunately has fallen prey to Hymenoscyphus fraxineus also known as Ash dieback.
After an in depth tree report was done we established that catching the disease early enough that preserving the tree by carrying out a full reduction was the best choice, permission was granted with 5 meters removed in height and 4 meters from the laterals.

About me and my business
Hello
I am James Ewing founder of Commando Climbers, I was in the Royal marines for 8 years until 2016 where I took upon the challenge to explore the world outside of the forces, however wanting to maintain my skills I became a reservist.
After 2016 I could not find a job to satisfy my ambitions until 2018. I went and found some work grounding with a fellow Royal Marine Climber who had been in the Industry for some years running his own business.
The first time I had seen him climb a tree, it was then that I knew this was my calling. I booked straight onto get all of my Tree surgery qualifications and set aim to be the top professional tree surgeon.
