We welcomed the start of the Paris Olympic Games in true Abbeyfield style this week with lots of fun, games and a quiz run by Ann & David - thank you to them both for doing this for us. We had a great time.

Classical music played by Anthea & Jenny on the piano was enjoyed by all.

It has been a season of sports for us!
We loved watching Wimbledon whilst enjoying strawberries & cream.

We had an amazing talk by founder of Ilkley Tools for Africa:
Mr Frank McCrickard.
The charity is run by a small group of volunteers that has been operating in the town since 2004.
The team receive donations of unwanted tools and sewing machines which they clean up and then send them overseas.
Many thanks for Frank for taking time out to come and see us.

Last Saturday, we hit the catwalk at our fashion show in partnership with FatFace Ilkley.
Our residents modelled clothing from the store, walking down the runway to music specially selected by them. Thank you models - you were fabulous.
Alison from Fat Face described the outfits and the costs.
We would like to say a huge thank you to the members of staff at Fat Face for their support at the great event which was enjoyed by all.
Fat Face have also donated some hours at Abbeyfield to do some volunteering.
Our raffle raised over a fabulous £200 towards our resident amenities fund

Some of our residents went to King's Hall and Winter Garden, Ilkley this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed a concert by the Airedale Symphony Orchestra.
Accompanied by 2 of our activities co-ordinators a great time was had by all

The Leeds Liverpool canal was our destination this week. We boarded in Skipton and whiled away the afternoon to Gargrave and back, even joined by a family of swans at one point.
Thank you to the crew of Spirit of Endeavour for your hospitality and kindness. We had the most wonderful time.

What a beautiful day to listen to the amazing band Hot Aire in our courtyard. We thoroughly enjoyed the music singing and dancing a-plenty.

Residents watched the Denmark versus England match last night whilst enjoying pizza and a refreshing drink

Whilst the team didn't secure a win, we had a great time and are looking forward to the next fixture on Tuesday.

Our latest trip out was to the fabulous Salts Mill in Saltaire. We enjoyed the David Hockney gallery and had lunch in the diner.

Fish & Chips and a game of Beetle Drive was the order of the day last week.

Later this year our CEO Philip Birkinshaw and our Financial Controller Nicola McCaigue will take part in the Yorkshire Tough Mudder UK event. Together they will face a number of intense challenges over a course 10 miles long 🥵

Jean came into Grove House to run a flower arranging session with some of the residents. We had a blooming good time 💐🌷🪻🌹🌺🌸🌼🌻

Our Karaoke Party this bank holiday was a bit hit 🎤🎼👩‍🎤🧑‍🎤

We donned our glitter and sequins and sang the night away.

This week we met husband and wife Nigel & Nikki who are volunteers with the RNLI

We enjoyed an incredible talk about the invaluable work the charity does in helping saving lives at sea.

On the 23rd of April we celebrated St. George’s day.

We learnt history of St. George’s the day and looked at facts about St. George.

Afterwards we enjoyed a quintessential cup of tea with delicious sones, jam and cream.

A rendition of God Save The King and Jerusalem concluded the celebrations.

Friday morning's are saved for pampering. We have our nails filed and painted. Our activity coordinator is very talented with a bottle of polish 😀

Yesterday morning we had a lovely walk down by the river side in Ilkley. We are lucky to live in such a beautiful town. The sun shone whilst we looked at the beautiful blossom trees and enjoyed a hot coffee.

On Wednesday 17th of April we had a visit from Yorkshire Air Ambulance volunteer, Helen.
She talked to us about the organisation and the amazing work they do saving lives in our county. Thank you Helen for taking the time to come and see us.
