This welcome update finally integrates vital mental health support with physical health care via the phone line which is open 24 hours a day.

This introduction of mental health support through NHS 111 marks a significant advancement in providing accessible care for people in crisis - but we recognise there is still a long way to go with providing more care for those experiencing mental heath crisis, and for this service to be rolled out in Northern Ireland too.

Myth: Cough CPR

If you were on the internet back in 1999 you may have received an email. One which introduced you to a new method of CPR. A method which will help you “survive a heart attack when alone”.

If you think this is too good to be true, it’s because it is, yet this myth continues to do the rounds on social media today.

The majority of people having a heart attack will not suffer a cardiac arrest, and by attempting ‘cough CPR’ you could make your condition worse. If you are conscious enough to cough… you’re not in cardiac arrest!

So don’t waste time coughing, call 999 and get the aspirin.

Defib finder – find the defibrillators nearest you. Defib finder uses data from The Circuit, the national defibrillator network, to help you find information about the nearest defibrillators to you.

😂😂😂😂😂😂 … if you were meant to use paper towels in first aid … they’d be in your first aid kit… and they’re NOT!!! Just saying! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Myth: Don’t put ice on a head injury 🧊

This myth keeps doing the rounds even amongst first aid trainers! The myths circulated suggest that placing ice on a head injury will cause blood clotting in the brain.

If this was the case, our bodies would go into a clotting catastrophe every time we dipped our big toe in the North Sea! 🌊

The priority is always to consider if there could be concussion, compression or a spinal injury – but if someone simply has swelling or bruising from a bump on the head, an ice pack wrapped in a tea towel is the perfect treatment!

SO… GET MOVING!!! … What’s your excuse? 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼… Move your body and move your mind set!! Check in with yourself! See how you are doing as well as your friends and family. If you, or someone you know is struggling, ask for help, speak to your GP , a friend, a charity, a helpline, just someone!!! … Listen, be non judgmental and BE KIND. It’s really not that difficult!!! 🤗
