MAGNESIUM LIME

We have an excellent opportunity to get approximately 1000 tonnes of magnesium lime onto lorries which are looking for return loads from Ullapool to the Beauly, Blackisle, Inverness area. There will be a significant saving in cost.

Currently we do not know the relevant dates but in the meantime we are going to put together a list of businesses wishing to take advantage of the opportunity.

DIGGER DRIVER REQUIRED FOR PEATLAND RESTORATION

We are looking to recruit a driver for a 14 tonne digger. Self employed or employed.

This is a cracking opportunity for an operator experienced in peatland restoration. Or, alternatively a driver willing to be trained to work on soft ground.

Initially the job will last for three months, five days a week with overtime available at the weekends. Excellent self catering accommodation is available when onsite and a vehicle and fuel card will be provided. It is likely that this post will last until the end of April 2025 and might become full time.

The first store lamb sales up and down the country have been experiencing a strong trade with Dingwall & Highland Marts Limited enjoying a cracking first sale of the season reporting an average price of £106.06 which was up £30.67 on the year.

Back on the road. This time we're heading for Portree.

At the Black Isle Show we were delighted to discuss the benefits of membership with much greater number of perspective members who had heard about us through social media or word of mouth. Please drop in for a chat if this could apply to you and we can explain the financial benefits.

We will also have the cattle collars from Nofence- the virtual fencing system allowing grazing control on unfenced land. Remember that these collars are eligible for grant under CAGS - again drop in for a blether!

NAIRN AND BLACK ISLE SHOWS 2024

For many years the staff, board and members of HBS have been committed to supporting charities and local organisations over the course of each year. With Cash for Kids being a regular beneficiary.

This year Alan Mclean, a well-known face amongst HBS folks, and his friend Jim Beattie, decided that it would be a good idea to cycle from Lands End to John O Groats to raise funds for My Name'5 Doddie & The Alzheimer's Society. Currently the lads and their support team have raised £27,341.30.

With your help HBS will increase this - we are going to raise funds at both shows for all three charities.

CRYSTALX

For several years now we have been agents for Crystalx in the Inverness/ Nairn area of the Highlands. Crystalyx produce an excellent range of proven feed blocks and we must thank them for donating six vouchers each to HBS. Each voucher is worth one 22.5kg tub.

NOFENCE

Nofence uses innovative technology to control cattle grazing, usually across large areas. The cattle or sheep are fitted with collars which use GPS and cellular technology to manage their grazing.
A virtual field is configured using a mobile app or computer. When the animal wearing the collar approaches the virtual fence it is warned off with a tone from the collar. Hazards can also be fenced off using the technology to keep stock safe. This equipment is eligible for funding under the Crofting Agricultural Grant Scheme which HBS has had a 100% success rate helping crofters to source.

THE PLAN

We will track an individual cow over the course of one of the shows. Hopefully we will sell 400 squares located within field at £1 a square and the six vouchers will go to owners of the six squares where the cow is at various times during the day.

All money raised will be split evenly amongst the three charities.

We are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at both shows.

This is a very special show well known for a fantastic atmosphere and a cracking display of quality stock.

As something different this year the Loch Ness Honey Company will be on the stand with one of its classic vehicles and a selection of honey.
